Tramadol and liver problems

Common Questions and Answers about Tramadol and liver problems

ultracet

Avatar f tn She was also on Carprofen and Tramadol for arthritis and Denamarin (1 pill daily). Dr took her off Tramadol as her counts went up to alp 588 & alt 1000. She weighs 80lbs. Could I give her both the Denamarin and super milk thistle pills (maybe 1) since by weight she should be on 2 pills. Dr's don't seem to like going natural as it cuts into their profits.
Avatar f tn Since you have a fatty liver and not fibrosis or cirrhosis then your liver is still considered healthy. I see no problem with continuing with the tramadol. Maintain a heathy low fat diet so your liver doesn't continue to become fattier or even fibrotic. You should always consult you doctor reguarding medication. This only my opinion and I am in no way a medical professional.
Avatar f tn tramadol is not liver friendly....go to pub med, and type in tramdol and liver toxicity I read extensively on the topic, and came to the conclusion doctors seldom read research papers... my doc insisted the reserch was wrong so I made her do a CBC on me... then I went off the tramadol and did another cbc a week later my ALT AST was half of what it was. The research is there.
1201433 tn?1328997637 It is recommended that patients physically dependent on pain killers take their medication regularly to prevent onset of withdrawal symptoms and this is particularly relevant to tramadol because of its SSRI and SNRI properties, and, when the time comes to discontinue their tramadol, to do so gradually over a period of time that will vary according to the individual patient and dose and length of time on the drug.
1394098 tn?1385960134 If your liver is stage 3 or 4 I would be careful about taking Tramadol as it is an opiate. Ibuprofen (brand names such as Advil, Motrin, Nuprin) is a Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). It should not be taken by someone with advance liver disease. Good luck. I hope your doctor has a diagnosis for you.
Avatar f tn I am concern as to whether tramadol can cause cancer of the liver. I also have pain, (not severe, more dull and annoying than anything) in the liver area. Does anyone have even a guess as to whats going on with my body? I am currently weaning myself off so that I can conceive a child, but it will take at least another month or two. Could it just be that the tramadol irritates my stomach? I also take excedrin on a daily basis for migraines that I have suffered from for years.
901372 tn?1242309047 -----Tramadol gives you constipation/stomach problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So skip them and go for lortab/vic,------- All opiates can cause constipation. Lortab/Vic’s are Opiates Don't ask me how I know. Joke, What does a mathamatition do for constipation? He works it out with a pencil!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn Tylenol should never exceed 3000mg a day and be avoided by people with severe liver problems. I would express your concerns with your doctor. If you are in doubt, like it sounds you are, don't take them. Hope you get pain relief.
Avatar f tn Yes stomach and intestinal issues are possible side effects. Have you consulted your doctor? What dose are you on? Do you take as prescribed?
Avatar f tn I also have Hepatitis-C (stage 3 cirrohsis)- this month I fell again and now have a comprection fracture at L-2) My doctor still has me on Lortab 10/500 4 per day with Tramidol inbetween along with muscle relaxer. I know all this medication is killing my liver and I am single mother and just not ready to die. Please, please, tell me what pain medication would be safer for me to take. Even with the Lortab the pain is unbearable.
Avatar f tn I am not very well versed on drugs. My husband had some 50 mg Tramadol and that is all I know anything about. I have heard some bad things about tramadol on this forum, so I can't reply to that, but if you want off the hydrocodone, quit taking them. You will feel lousy for 4 to 7 days. Usually better on the 5th day. Check out the Thomas recipe, take supplements, stay hydrated and take it easy. You will feel like you have the flu. Take immodium for any diarrhea issues.
Avatar m tn I had to visit the ER last week because of severe abdominal pain and blood tests showed elevated liver enzymes again. I had an ultrasound and it revealed dilated ducts that drain the liver but showed no obstruction. Its been a week and my liver enzymes have returned to normal, I feel fine but the side ache is still there. I’m not jaundice or feeling sick or have anymore attacks but I sure am worried.
Avatar n tn Metabolism of tramadol and M1 is reduced in patients with advanced cirrhosis of the liver resulting in a larger area under the serum-concentration-versus-time to curve tramadol and longer tramadol and M1 elimination half-lives (13 hrs. for tramadol and 19 hrs. for M1). In cirrhotic patients adjustment of the dosing regimen is recommended (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION).
148532 tn?1216640562 This swelling affects the belly, legs and arms, and sometimes the face. Elevation of the legs, diuretic medications, and fluid and salt restriction may help these symptoms.
Avatar f tn my sister is going through liver failure due to antipsychotic, anti freak out pills taking them off and on all her life. shes only 44. i am 42 and now taking more than her and i am freaking out that i am next. what if my liver cannot take any more? I COMMEND you for even tapering down. when the withdrawls start i start to panic thats when i become the junkie searching my purse for my pills. it really is disgusting. i am no better than a herion addict.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 200-300 mg per day of tramadol for 7 days and the surface of my skin feels numb on my right shoulder. I stopped taking it (2) days ago and the felling has not gone away. I am very worried. Have you heard of this before? Will that feeling go away? I took tramadol (same mg) one year ago and did not have this issue. Thanks!
Avatar f tn It is now become painful when I lay on my sides(the right side and stomach is the worse). They are treating the paim with Tramadol and this takes the edge off, but the only way to stop completely is laying on my back and sometimes with my knees bent up. The Liver Dr states I should not be having this severe pain with the disease and they sent me to a Blood Dr whom states that he believes the Nash is the problem. But the doctors are not agreeing with one another.
Avatar n tn habit forming and not super powerful in the pain relief arena but very addictive for many people..there is no tylenol in ultram or tramadol/but ultracet has tylenol in it so liver problems if taking alot of them can be a concern....like cathy said..why do u ask?
1077322 tn?1266201500 I agree that Tramadol raises liver enzymes and should be closely monitored when taking this particular drug. I too take Oxycodone in small amounts to help with my pain. EMVF: Have you thought about seeing a Pain Management Specialist. They are very familiar with various pain meds that are easier on the liver like Morphine or Methadone. Both of these are "Natural" pain relievers not synthetic.
Avatar f tn My grandmother has taken them everyday for 10 years ( or as long as I can remember) for pain and she is just fine. No liver problems or anything. I think its generally safe but is addicting although some people say its not.
Avatar n tn I took it for years before it started bothering my liver and once I went off of it my liver functions went back to normal. I hope this helps and good luck if you or anyone you know decides to use this for pain management.
Avatar f tn Basically I only take my Metformin and pain meds on a day to day basis. I had a liver biopsy and it is relatively normal, negative for fatty liver or autoimmune hepatitis. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!
189269 tn?1189755825 was on iterferon treatment and stopped 2 years ago, it did not work. I was on the Tramadol for joint pain during and after treatment. Can the hep c or post treatment be cauing my problems.
Avatar f tn I know that now is when the withdrawls symptoms will get worse. Does anyone know if the large quantities of tramadol damage kidneys and/or liver? Also, any advice for the next phase of withdrawl. Can tramadol withdrawls cause seizures?
Avatar f tn I had a phone call from another doctor at my practice saying that I should not be taking both co diaper and tramadol together as they are both opiates. How should I best reduce the dose? And is it correct I should not take them both?
Avatar m tn Light microscopy revealed severe centrolobular congestion and focal necrosis in the liver of morphine and tramadol groups, but perivenular necrosis was present only in the morphine group. The main histopathologic finding was vacuolization in tubular cells in morphine and tramadol groups. Our findings pointed out the risk of increased lipid peroxidation, hepatic and renal damage due to long term use of opioids, especially morphine.
Avatar f tn Yes, stay in one thread. I thought you went off Tramadol too when I replied to your other post. Benzo withdrawals can cause seizures or even death. I wouldn't recommend stopping Tramadol too. It's going to be bad enough as it is, believe me, and stopping Tramadol now would only make it worse.
Avatar f tn I currently have been abusing tram for 3 yr.s now within the past few days while running low on a fill i freaked outthinking i may have to withdrawl and made an appt. with an md on the subxone site with there md. locator md. was willing to treat me so my appt. is in a few days so i guess i'll see who this program will work out. check out subxone. com and find and md. if serious it took quite a few calls to all the md's on the list but finally got an appt.
Avatar n tn i have blood work done every 3 mths and it has always been normal. i am worried that the tramadol and ibuprofen could damage my liver. i only take 7.5-750mg vicodin. wouldnt it be better to just take the vicodin again?
