904511 tn?1251219733 He said together they would work stronger than Tramadol. My pharacist sucked and didnt really tell me much about them. I read on the print out that the Amitraptyline was a antidepressent. Is it both or did I get the wrong thing?
Avatar f tn What is your pain and nausea from and how long has this been going on??? Opiates can help pain at first and then they make us unable to tolerate the smallest amout of pain because we build up a tolerance to them. This is the cycle that causes addiction. Give us a little more info on your story and what surgery you are having so we can try to help you.
1272082 tn?1343103540 What does anyone take for chronic pain issues? Also, what do you take when it's a severe pain--like a broken foot/leg that will be painful for a long time. The pain meds are making my POTS allot worse. I've tried Demoral with Phenagan and Tramadol. Tramadol is the least problematic, but is causing bad POTS issues. I tried not using anything, but can't take the pain. I broke all the bones and my ankles off. Have 10 screws and a plate.
1148698 tn?1261715542 Hi..I'm new here and hoping that someone might be able to answer this question. Can Elavil be used as an effective means to releive morphine withdrawl symtoms? I'm about to go down that road and I know the agony of withdrawl from morphine and don't want to go through it again...or at least as bad as it was before. I have decreased my morphine intake from 150mg a day down to 90mg within two days.
Avatar n tn I have a constant need to urinate; I can avoid and then 10 minutes later still produce more urine. I also feel bloated, my stomach will round out and the discomfort varies depending on how bad it is. I have seen a urologist, a gyno, and now a gastroenterologist. The urologist did some tests, said my bladder was small but fine. Gave me 4mg of Detrol LA so I wouldn't get up so much during the night. I still get up but now only once or twice. During the day I urinate about 13 to 20 times.
Avatar f tn I stopped using Elavil and Tramadol (was only on it for a month) Been on vicodin 5 months and the Dr now put me on cymbalta and lorazepam but will not refill vicodin. I was only taking about 3-4 pills a day but dont I need to wein off and will I have withdrawls?? And replacing the vicodin with these other drugs cant be a good thing, can it?? Need some advice quickly if possible.
2107732 tn?1335127983 I was 2 weeks clean and still feeling like hell every day and now I am wondering if it was .the elavil all along. Live and learn. So do I have anxiety attacks and no sleep or do I feel hungover every day? What a choice lol.
Avatar n tn Other people have listed Trileptal (Oxcarbazepine), Neurontin (Gabepentin), Elavil (Amitriptyline) and Lyrica (Pregabalin) as some alternatives. I am currently on Lyrica + Cymbalta. I can't say that it's working but still playing with dosages. Anyone reading, please feel free to add your own choices and/or experiences.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. I saw my neurosurgeon today for follow up and he wants to start me on Elavil 10 mg at bedtime and then increase to 25 mg if needed. He said he thinks it could help my pressure headaches. Has anyone taken this medication and how was your experience on it. Thanks for the continued support.
Avatar m tn They gave me Elavil after trying Lyrica, and Nerontin. I also had Vicodin and Tramadol. Well I withdrew from the Tram cause I decided to stop it. After that I decided to stop all my meds except for the clexa 20 mil. Now I'm taking a multi Vit, Calcium with D, Folic Acid, Fish oil, Cod oil and I get B12 shots still. I also changed my diet to Organic, Gluten Free and minimal red meat if any and a little bit of all natural chicken. I'm also doing some stretching at night.
1100837 tn?1267668675 Now wants me to get off of Elavil 25mg and Adderal 15mg. Doctor says take the Neurontin for sleep. The Elavil works best for pain, but I can hardly get up in the mornings and it has made me gain 10 plus pounds and counting. I take Clonapin 0.5mg twice a day. Getting off the Elavil, I am having cold feet and hands and a very unsettling feeling and absolutley no energy. Is this withdraw and how long do i suffer?
175688 tn?1297556647 Meloxicam is just an NSAID like Ibuprofen or Celebrex. It might help with some aches and pains. The Elavil might help with the depression aspect, but it would take several weeks to kick in. I wouldn't expect much help from either.
Avatar f tn I'm having bad side effects from starting Elavil for nighttime and Wellbutrin in the morning. Does anyone get panic attacks and sweating from the combination? I was less depressed with just the Wellbutrin but am taking the Elavil for chronic pain. It helps somewhat but I don't know why I feel worse mentally and it doesn't help to wake up listless and sweating. A new doctor added the Elavil but I don't know if it's worth taking since it only relieves some pain, not all.
Avatar n tn I was taking 100 darvocet once a day, took 900 mg of gabapentin a day, 100 mg of tramadol 3 times a day, prozac 40 mg a day, mevacor 20 mg a day, elavil 100 mg at night, 1200 mg ibropofen a day, migraine medicine (maxalt 10) 3-4 times a week. basically I went into the e.r. where they basically were going to send me to the psych ward (which they didn't even have one), I left.
1268921 tn?1288919056 d it as an acephalgic complicated migraine (w/stroke like, unresolved visual symptoms)--upped elavil to 25mg and planned to up it in 2 weeks to 50mg. The elavil caused me to gain weight (10lbs in 2 weeks!!!) and I wasn't happy! I switched to verapamil--120mg extended release.
Avatar f tn got new dr after this and he has put me back on the elavil but at 50 mg to try to increase my appetite and gain weight back plus the headaches were coming back but the withdrawels problems are still with me i guess cause its a low dose of elavil. i get my heart checked every 2 weeks now and i am fine with the qt thing. i take the chemo pill called gleevec and have to force myself to eat so i dont get sick when i take it. how long will these withdrawel problems go on?
Avatar f tn He also mentioned trying elavil(which I took 5mg of 6 years ago for migraine prevention) I discussed it with my GP and she called me in the elavil and said I could try that or the 2.5mg of celexa to see what happens. I am just wanting some opinions since I reacted badly to the ssri's before is there any point in trying the low dose of celexa or should I try the elavil again?
Avatar n tn I have been taking synthroid for a few years for my hypothyroid. I also suffer from chronic headache and take depakote and elavil every day as preventatives. I am worried if surgery could make my headaches worse? Is it possible? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I am going through IVF and am on Elavil and not sure I can get off of it. Please help me with any information that you may have.
Avatar f tn Hi, What has helped me with nerve pain are Gabapentin and Cymbalta. When I first started with the meds, I had some succesws with Gabapentin and Elavil. I also take oxycodone. I'm sure there are others that your Dr. can try. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I got parvovirus B19 in 2010 and have been suffering from peripheral neuropathy and tachycardia since then. I take 20 mg Elavil for the neuropathy (for two years) and 5mg bisoprolol for the tachy (for 8 months). I have been getting frequent chiropractic adjustments for a back injury, massages and acupuncture. I have had my eyes tested - mild far sightedness that does not require prescription. Any idea what might be causing this, or what I should expect from my neurologist.
382594 tn?1266610613 I don't mean to make a joke about it, but before I read your entire note I thought "yes, I've felt anger and rage after taking Librium" -- but that's because I was taking them in rehab (during detox) to alleviate withdrawal symptoms. At that time I felt anger and rage before, during, and after taking Librium -- so I couldn't actually blame it on the pills. I had about the same reaction you did, toward the end of detox.
Avatar n tn Elavil is amitriptyline, an anti-depressant. If the weight gain bothers you, you might ask if it could be changed to trazodone which doesn't make you gain weight and is an effective anti-depressant also.
1069827 tn?1296650628 I would certainly recommend NOT using tramadol, if at all possible. If you get the chance type in tramadol withdrawls and see the info provided. I just want to try and get the word out, because drs. do not seem to be aware of these issues. I hope this can help someone else from going down this path. Hang in there everyone.
Avatar m tn Prescribed 100 MG of Lyrica twice a day and Elavil 25 mg at night. Dr. said can take Elavil during the day for pain..Can't function.. What is another drug besides Elavil that will help with pain and not cause terrible side efforts?
1278070 tn?1276224405 She told me the only other medication was the elavil, I don't want that, also I have lousy ins and getting an appt with my doctor is close to impossible. My pain is relieved with sitting. Its VERY irritating to have to sit every 10-15 minutes greatly messes with my life. Thank you for your responses, they are very much appreciated...
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1998 following back surgery and chronic back pain and was prescribed Elavil (75mg at bedtime) and Zanaflex at that time. The meds definitely helped me reach stage IV sleep and my pain improved and has been under control for several years. I recently applied to participate in a drug study for a drug being investigated for fibromyalgia.
