tramadol abuse

please dont quit tramodol cold turkey, it can have bad affects, tramadol w/ds are like five days i beleive but I do also believe tramadol has a lil more emotional w/ds with it because of the anti-depressant effect the meds have on people..How much were you takin? how long? did you taper or quit cold turkey? is there a doctor involved?

Hi all, I have a horrible tendency to abuse prescribed medications. For more years then I can count I have been on a wide range of opiates for chronic pain ranging from injectable demoral to oxycontin. Several years ago I went into detox for 7 days and it was successful for awhile. Then 2 or 3 years later I reinjured my back and the doc put me on opiates once again. Well about a year ago I had a new md and I told him I did not want opiates for my pain.

I would suggest you re-post this in the Addiction: Substance Abuse forum as it is pretty active and you will find many people knowledgable about tramadol and much, much support. Or, you can also find EmilyPost's continuing journal on ultram/tramadol withdrawal. I am a recovering addict but tramadol was not my drug of choice.

PLZ don't take ultram ,It is not supposed to be used for people who are opiate addicted. There are many posts on here about people going threw hell to come off of tram ,if you put "tramadol in search you can read some . good luck with detox you can do this .

I also have a history of addiction and abuse and get perscribed tramadol for lower back pain. Tramadol is as far as im aware addictive, it gets you high if you abuse it. If you feel you are likely to abuse it then i would advise you be straight with your doc. Taken properly there is no problem but over long term or in the event of bingeing, be very wary. Good luck.

Possibly but not probably. Buprenorphine would work on the opiate side of things, but not on the antidepressant properties of Tramadol. Plus, most doctors don't recognize the abuse potential of Tramadol. I believe most every doctor would suggest a Tramadol taper over a Suboxone detox.

Just curious as to whether Tramadol or Ultram has helped anyone? Of course, this being a substance abuse forum I expect more negative answers than positive. Also going to make a post in the expert forum if I can find a place to do so. btw, I'm 15 days clean from oxycontin & percocet abuse. I realize from what you guys have previously said that w/ds from tramadol & ultram are far worse than what I've been thru already.

ITs going from one big problem to another .Then what is she going to take to get off the tramadol. The wds from tram are H e LL .Why doesn't she talk to her doctor tell her doctor to taper her of properly so she does not have intense WDs .If she is not getting them from a doctor. After being on codeine for the last 3 years my doctor has put me on Tramadol because I'd built up a tolerance to codeine. It's working quite well for the pain, not really as well as I need it to, but yesterday I tried to go without to see how addicitve it is. I woke up after having horrific dreams about a being trapped in a tank of poisonous eels, feeling like my spine was wired up to the mains.

I am encouraged however that I have not wanted to abuse the hydro or take any tramadol since Monday. If my tramadol w/d symptoms are gone when I stop hydro, I will do everything in my power to never touch a tramadol tablet again. If I follow the Thomas receipe, do you think I should start now?? 200 mgs a day? He put me on 2 50 mg pills every 6 hours, or up to 8 per day, which could be 400 mgs. I thing I did take 8 one day. But the others around 6, give or take. I think I will taper it down for few days just to be cautious. I was hooked on hydro for about 2 years. I don't feel much psychologically with Tramadol like I did hydro, so I have much reason to abuse them.
