Avatar f tn I am increasing weight bearing a little at a time and in physical therapy. A year ago I also had a total knee replacement on the same side. I want to know realistically how long it will be before I can drive and ditch the crutches and walking air cast? I also need to do the same total knee replacement and foot reconstruction on the other leg. Has anyone else had similar experiences?
Avatar f tn M PUSHED TO GET THE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE I WANT TO CONTINE TO EXERCISE TO FINISH MY WEIGHT LOSS THAT I DID ON MY OWN WITHOUT ANY TYPE OF SURGERY. DO I PUSH THIS KNEE AS FAR AS I CAN OR DO I HAVE IT REPLACED FOR MORE MOBILITY. I'M GOING THROUGH THERAPY AND I AM AT AROUND 90-100 DEGREES AND DON'T THINK IT WILL GET ANY BETTER UNTIL THE KNEE JOINT IS LINED BACK UP AGAIN DUE TOT HE BONE OF BONE. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

Avatar f tn I had a osteotomy on my right knee which was a total disaster and had to have a total knee replacement later. I need total knee replacement on my left knee. I am so scared to get it because of what I went through with my right leg. With tka's what is the % of surgeries that turn out normal? I know I have to have the P.T. for about 6 weeks and all that but boy it's a painfull surgery and what type of pain medication would you think would be sufficent?
Avatar n tn The pain is now worse than before I had the replacement surgery. My knee is always swollen, stiff and hot to touch since surgery. I have taken Celebrex that helped the pain but had to stop because my kidney function BU/CU ratio is now elevated. I cannot take other NSAID's because they elevate my blood pressure. I have a history of chronic Lyme disease. I was treated two years ago with six weeks of Rocephin IV Therapy. Could the Lyme disease have settled in my my new knee post operatively?
17560938 tn?1457846532 Thanks to the medical tourism company of Tour2india4health that helped me in finding a doctor to make my knee replacement free from hassles. On the day of my surgery all people of the Indian hospital treated me like a very royal personage. All the surgeons and nurses were adept in medical knowledge and very caring in nature, I can never forget the valuable help and medical guidance that was given by the healthcare team of Tour2india4health.
Avatar m tn just coming on here to see if anyone else has or is still in pain 8+ months after total hip replacement? Back in June of 2012 I had the surgery done. The arthritis had set in to my left hip, but the pain was spread to my left knee?? doc said the hip replacement would more than likely take care of the knee pain. At first (in the second week after) the pain wasn't so bad in the knee, but the pain came back shortly after that and isn't getting better.
Avatar f tn I am 58 year old female. I just had my second total knee replacement to the rt knee on Nov 18,2014. This one has hurt and swelled so bad. I felt pretty good on morning after surgery. Got up with therapy and walked 300 ft. did all the other stuff, heel slides, etc. Well they killed me that night, they put me in that cpn machine and set it for 110. I was in that thing all night. I could hardly walk to the bathroom little alone do anything else.
Avatar f tn I had a total left knee replacement 2 1/2 months ago. For the last 3 wks my knee is sswollen, warm to touch, is swelled down into my ankle and hurts constantly. If my puppy lays against the outside of my thigh, its excruciating pain all the way down. Even behind the knee is swollen and warm to the touch. The pain is also down my shin bone. Is there a possibility of a blood clot this long after surgery? Even my calf hurts. I don't get Any Sleep and even my toes hurt to move them.
Avatar n tn i had total knee surgery 2 months ago,i am still having pain,my knee is still swollen and i can not sleep at night is this normal, when will i start to feel better,i am still on pain med,but only twice a day.
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Gross, I had a total knee replacement 1 year ago for severe arthritis. The pain is still there and I can't walk right, also my knee cap keeps going out and I fall or almost fall. My Ortho gave me a brace to wear and PT to go to, to streng. then muscles around the knee. It hasn't helped. My knee cap is still my own. Why wasn't that replaced with the total knee also? Is that a norm? I am so upset and will be getting a second opinion. Any ideas why this is happening.
Avatar f tn I had total knee replacement in may.. I'm 56 but in good health, except the knee. After surgery, I have a lot of pain still in knee that runs up the back of my leg to lower back. I also have joint pain in both legs, both shoulders, even my fingers are stiff if still very long. I can barely stand up after being still for long. I went through my physical therapy. Actually, twice. Both said I was doing great. Yet, the more I do, the worse I hurt.
Avatar n tn I had surgery 9-29-08 and had a Zimmer gender specific total knee replacement. Since then I have pain around the outer edge of my left foot and across the arch of my foot. Can you give me an answer as to why this has happened and what can I do for the pain?
Avatar f tn Total knee replacements take time to heal properly. Trust me, I have had both knees replaced and know many other with arthritis, bot osteo and rhematoid that have had knee replacement as well. Each of us heal in our own time frame but the general length of time for all to be really right again seems to be around 5 - 6 months. At three months, which was what I was told I should be doing well, I still had a lot of PT and work to do.
Avatar n tn Pain in the knee after total knee replacement can occur due to knee infection or loosening, resurfaced patella, with effusion in the joint occuring due to worn out polyethylene components, due to damage to the vessels and nerves around the knee etc. In case of infection antibiotics would help. In case of worn out polyethylene components may be reoperation could be considered. Also you mentioned that a cyst is present in the knee area, this could have been the cause of pain in the knee.
Avatar m tn In 2001, after seven surgeries on my knee I underwent a total knee replacement. For about two years I was pain free, and got around very well. Then the pain, worse than before the replacement began, I had surgery to remove an infected bursa, then several other authroscopic surgeries to clean out the knee of scar tissue. About two years ago the pain got so bad I had to stop working. I was put on 300mg morphine daily, and some day's the pain was so bad I could not walk.
Avatar n tn Why am I having numbness and pain in my foot after total knee replacement? It really hurts.....one physician is giving me Lyrica. Any info on this will be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Like any surgery, knee surgery also has scar tissue which can remain for the rest of the life, but it's size might decrease after the surgery. As you mentioned, it is 18 months after surgery I don't think this scar would dissappear. Normally, the scar will be approximately six to eight inches long. It will be straight down the center of your knee unless you have previous scars, in which case they may use the prior scar. There will be some numbness around the scar.
Avatar m tn In May 2009 I had a total left knee replacement. December 2009, left hip replacement. June 2010 Right hip replacement. In June 2011, my doctor told me the Left knee component had come loose and needed to be replaced. Revision left knee done in December 2011. He said the cement had failed to bond to the bone on tibia and femur. He basically lifted out the prosthesis. He did say that 3 brands of cement are available and he used a different type in the TKR revision surgery.
Avatar n tn Hello! Welcome to the Arthritis Forum! I don't really have an answer for you, but someone will jump in to answer this for you! There are many people here with many varieties of arthritis, and many different stories to share, it just sometimes takes a few days, with the holidays and that all just now settling down. I would imagine it would depend a lot on the type of arthritis you have/had as to weather is could still be affecting the area.
Avatar f tn m only 46) and having some other health issues (lupus, fibromyalgia, asthma), he would strongly suggest going with a total knee FUSION as opposed to a total knee REPLACEMENT. He said that because I am relatively young (although I don't feel young most days) and have the autimmune problems, there is an increased chance that a knee replacement would not last very long for me and would have to be done at least one more time, if not several times.
