Avatar n tn You have to check if there is any infection, scar tissue formation or stiffness after the total knee replacement surgery. Rule out instability, loosening of components, fractures of any bones. Go for present day scans and take a second opinion. A close follow-up of your progress by your surgeon is crucial for the success in return of range of motion. Take care!
Avatar n tn If your orthopedician has indicated total knee replacement for rheumatoid arthritis due to loss of cartilage you can go ahead. The risk of infection in the weeks after the operation is increased if you have rheumatoid arthritis or diabetes; if you have been taking cortisone so discuss everything for your well being before going ahead. Take care!
Avatar m tn I went to a revision specialist. He proceeded to tell me that a Total Knee Replacement is my only option, at this point. Which, I already knew that. So we set the date. December 2nd, 2013. The fun begins. Three months later, still in therapy, and I am worse off than before. All the pain I had prior, had been multiplied, as well as the swelling. I go back in for my follow up, and the surgeon still resided on the statement, it's just gonna take some time.

Avatar m tn In 2001, after seven surgeries on my knee I underwent a total knee replacement. For about two years I was pain free, and got around very well. Then the pain, worse than before the replacement began, I had surgery to remove an infected bursa, then several other authroscopic surgeries to clean out the knee of scar tissue. About two years ago the pain got so bad I had to stop working. I was put on 300mg morphine daily, and some day's the pain was so bad I could not walk.
Avatar n tn I had a total knee replacement done over 14 weeks ago and still have quite a bit discomfort. My knee down to my ankle will swell and I get a burning sensation that will last for hours. I have been to the doctors several times and i am being told that this is normal and could last up to 1 year. I had the other knee replaced and didn't have anywhere near the pain I am having with this knee.
Avatar n tn Due to numerous work injuries - I had a total knee replacement in April of 2006. I did fine for the first 6 months postop but in the fall started feeling alot of pain and increased instability. In March of 2007 I had a partial knee replacement to remove the original spacer and replace the bottom prosthesis. The original spacer was worn down very thin in the back and I was told by my new surgeon that it was due to the wrong size spacer being used initially.
Avatar n tn It did not, and I began to experience pain within the knee joint after a a few months due to bone-on-bone contact. I had a total knee replacement and recovered well from the surgery (March 2009). However, the ITB problem persists and flares up with rather short walks or bike rides. My orthopedic surgeon says that any surgical approach (such as Z-plasty) is contra-indicated after a TKR. Is that the general opinion?
Avatar m tn In Feburary 2007, I had Total Knee Replacement Sugery for my left Knee. The knee functions fine as far as bending and walking is concerned. But I still have severe pain in my Knee . Avatar m tn On September 7/12 I received a total knee replacement of my left knee. I suffer from severe osteoarthrits and am only 59 years of age. My initial recovery from the left knee replacement was excellent. I was walking without a cane within 7 days, and no longer needed any medication stronger than ibupuprofen.
Avatar m tn Hello! Infection is rare following total knee replacement surgery. It occurs in 1-2.5% of cases. Immediate side effects can be due to infection, early haemorrhage and wound breakdown and intra-operative fractures. The long term complications are infection, wearing of the bearings, and loosening of the prosthesis and dislocations. You have to follow up with your orthopedician and get yourself properly examined.

Avatar f tn Quickly, I went in for total knee replacement, and afterwards was doing excellent, better than most. I was walking on a cane withing 3 weeks. Then, all of a sudden, my knee started getting red and swollen and hurt. some nurses and docs said it was infected, some said it wasn't. Finally, it got so bad they re-hospitalized me and took a million tests, put me on massive amounts of antibiotics, but found I did not have an infection (by blood work), and sent me home not knowing what it was.
497951 tn?1209833333 I have knee problems and will most likely need a knee replacement on my right knee eventually. Also, I have heard the excuse about *scar tissue.* I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right wrist in Oct. 2007, and it still bothers me and the doctor blamed it on scar tissue. I don't know. I'll be honest, I don't really know what to tell you. I have a lot of joint and muscle pain and other problems with blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.
