Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol XL for 3 years now, started out taking 50 mg per day, now down to 25 mg per day, doing pretty good. I take it for High BP & when I was taken off last year my heart rate would get really high & I have been to the ER several times. I am in the early stages of pregnancy about 6 weeks, & have my DR appt. in 10 days. Has anyone every taken Toprol XL during an entire pregnancy. Any advice would be great...
Avatar f tn I take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL per day (any more and my BP drops very low). When I'm on Toprol, I don't have the waking in the night spells but when I'm off it I do (I've tried to get off once last summer and had to start taking it again). When I had the urine test back in October 2004, I had just started Toprol XL and was taking 12.5 mg per day for about a week before the test.
406399 tn?1201887900 I have a @uestion please : After 6years on Toprol xl and Diovan , my Doctor switched me to another medication - verapamill and maxide - iv taken these before and had problems with them both !! fact is the verapamill ccb caused palpatations. and I was put on a beta blocker from that point on.. as to stop the palps and control the b.p. / the Toprol xl and diovan both lowered b.p well and stopped the palps for me.. but iv been living life in pain and suffering for 6years now..
Avatar f tn I began having tachycardia at age 12, and began having palpitations during my first pregnancy 7 years ago, and arrythmias almost 4 years ago. I am still taking Toprol XL 50mg daily, and my average heart rate is between 90-120 bpm. I would like to get pregnant within the upcoming year and was wondering what the risks are to my heart rate, if I can have a vaginal delivery, and if I would have any limitations during the pregnancy.

Avatar n tn I currently take Norpace 150 bid and Toprol XL 50 at night. They work great for me. I do need to lose about 40 pounds before I would attmpt pregnancy. Question: Would pregnancy increase the likelihood of my septal wall increasing? Is your understanding that any child I bear has a 50-50 chance of getting Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy? Would I be endagering my life and the life of a fetus (bc of the increase stresses on my heart during pregnancy)?
280234 tn?1532989849 Hi, I'm 4 weeks pregnant & had high BP before becomiong pregnant. I was on Toprol XL 25 mg once daily. I went to an OB/GYN today who said my BP was still running high and upped my dose to Toprol 50 mg once daily. When I called my pharmacist, he said he did not think Toprol was the best thing to take for BP during pregnancy to ask for something safer. My questions are: Is it safe to take Toprol during pregnancy? If not, what BP medicine should I ask my OB/GYN to put me on?
Avatar n tn Toprol XL Toprol XL is medication that belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. Beta blockers lower the heart rate and blood pressure are typically used in people with high blood pressure, problems with the heart beating too fast and in people who have blockages in the heart arteries. This class of drugs appears to safe and efficacious in late pregnancy, however fetal growth retardation has been reported when treatment was started in early or mid pregnancy.
94902 tn?1330483267 Just wondering if anyone is pregnant and taking either Zoloft (sertraline) or Toprol XL (metaporpolol). I currently take both - one for anxiety and the other because I have PVCs and tachycardia (which causes the anxiety). I am now estimated 6 weeks pregnant, and am having to make the decision about wether or not to come off my meds. I am in the process of weighing my pros and cons, but wonder if any other moms have been on any meds while pregnant. I would appreciate any input.

Avatar f tn and weigh about 240 lbs. I also have elevated blood pressure and take 25mg of Toprol XL per day to control it (It still runs around 130/88 on a regaular basis). Besides these two things, I have no other health problems. I have started exercising on a regular basis, take a prenatal vitamin and watch what I eat (no more processed foods, lots of fruits and veggies, etc..) My questions are: 1. Can my husband and I go ahead and start trying for a family? 2.
Avatar n tn A couple wks later I got palpitations every 10 mins. all day. Dr. prescribed Toprol XL and said to take if I had a bad day. So far haven't taken them. I don't get bad ones too often, but I had one a couple of weeks ago that felt like my heart was being squeezed, it got really tight, felt like it stopped beating. Only lasted a few seconds but Wanting to have another baby and my cardio said he's not worried at all, that my heart is healthy and fine.

Avatar n tn My EF is now back into the normal range, although not as high as it once was. I take 25 mg of Toprol XL daily. I would really like to have another child, but I am very scared that the IST will return. Can it return after an ablation? Is pregnancy more dangerous for me since I have these rhythm problems? Any advice would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn I was taking Toprol prior to pregnancy but stopped because of my concerns about the effects on the pregnancy. Email me at ***@**** Thanks!
Avatar n tn Although my family doctor discouraged me from continuing to breastfeed, I consulted with a pediatrician, lactation consultant and pharmacist before making my final decision to discontinue or continue breastfeeding. The beta blocker I am on, Toprol XL 25mg/day, is approved by the American Academy of Pediatric Medicine for breastfeeding mothers. Propranolol is another approved beta blocker.
Avatar n tn I am 20 weeks right now and I have taken 12.5 mg of Toprol XL throughout my whole pregnancy. I know it may not be optimal, but my doctor says for me at least the benefits outweigh the risks. I have severe anxiety related to palpitations and heart racing and I have already had to get off my anxiety meds so the danger of a huge anxiety relapse was too much to chance without at least a beta blocker. I take a tiny dose, and my heart still beats fast after meals (I have only gained 5 lb.
Avatar n tn I found out 4 years ago that I have arrythmia w/SVT and the dr put me on medication for it.She is a cardiologist and she said she has several patients on this drug (Toprol XL 50mg) and some due fine and some don't when they become pregant but that the drug was not harmful to the baby. Was just curious if anyone has experianced any problems while on the drug or problems during labor as my dr told me I have to stop taking it 48 before I deliver(don't know if we can pull that off)...
Avatar f tn The only medication I take is Toprol XL, 12.5 mg every other day just to control palps (and likely just for my peace of mind). My symptom is that immediately after I sit down or lie down it feels that my heart is slowing down very slow, sometimes almost to the point where I feel a bit dizzy. When I touch my pulse during these episodes, it feels slow but not extremely so. Sometimes it takes a while (maybe 10 seconds) for my heart to catch up to normal speed.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with SVT 3yrs ago, and decided against the ablation, took Toprol xl for a time but currently take no meds for it. It is much better than when I was first diagnosed though I still have attacks. I am taking fertility treatments and told the re about the svt. He agreed to treat me, but I am wondering if any of you with svt had any trouble with your attacks becoming more frequent or severe during pregnancy? I am concerned that if I become pregnant it will suddenly worsen.
Avatar n tn I took Toprol XL 50 mg while I was pregnant. I was having syncope with heartrate going up to 180's. I wore a 24 holter monitor, was in the hospital several times during pregnancy and this continued until he was born. After he was born he had low blood sugar, he couldn't hold his body temperature, he was having trouble breathing and he failed his newborn hearing test both times. He has been in and out of every dr's office known to man.
280234 tn?1532989849 I was later switched to Toprol XL 25 mg to control the tachycardia better. I was on that several years. I then found out I was pregnant with my second child, and switched to Labetalol. After having the 2nd baby (which was a normal delivery) I was put on Toprol XL again by my PCP. I was eventually referred to a cardiologist by my PCP to evaluate the high BP & tachycardia as a precaution. I now have a cardiologist.
280234 tn?1532989849 I have been on BP medicine ever since having my daughter in `02. I was recently switched from Toprol XL to Labetolol 100 mg 2 x a day by my new OB. Any other moms here have high BP going into this pregnancy? If so, what meds are u taking? Or have any other moms taken Labetolol during a previous pregnancy? If so, how'd it go? Thanks!
Avatar n tn If so, can you recommend one that will not harm my fetus and won't cause cardiovascular side effects like tachycardia and palpitations? I do take 12.5 mg per day of Toprol XL to control tachycardia from panic attacks - should I up this dose while going through the withdrawal period? Any help you can give is greatly appreciated as I cannot tell you how scared I am that I am going to have a seizure. I am 33 years old, in excellent health, low BP, low cholesterol levels, etc.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Toprol XL at the same dosage and had horrible nightmares and depression. It did not improve my symptoms (PAC's) at all. However, it prevented me from having any more episodes of afib which I had as a result of pregnancy. I took it for about six months, and have been off of it now for six months. In answer to your questions: a) My cardiologist told me that the dose I was taking was "like peeing in the ocean". b) Did nothing to help my pacs.
Avatar n tn He said a tilt table test would diagnose it but there was really no point as they already had me on a beta blocker (Toprol XL) which is the treatment for POTS. I also have these episodes where my heart feels out of rhythm. It is definitely not skipping but beating rapidly and just oddly. It has a very rapid onset and offset (maybe 10 seconds from start to finish). These episodes have occured maybe 4-5 times this year. During the episodes, I feel weak, breathless and like I might faint.
