toprol

Avatar f tn I took toprol xl for about 6years or more .. I switched times to take the meds meny times, most times nothing happend - but sometimes I got a few unwanted toprol side effects , I think with toprol and the dose your on, it would be a good thing to let your doctor know , and see what he thinks, before switching times . as he could have a good reason for the times your taking the drug ? Toprol xl is one nasty b.p med .. do you have any side effects from it ??
Avatar n tn as I came down with depression and anxiety and pannic attacks ,after I was on the stuff then was treated for it.. with other meds ! its a ban aid to mask the side effects of toprol xl .. best to get off the junk ! try something diffrent ..
Avatar f tn Yes you can find online a few web sites , that will tell you this ! look under side effects of toprol xl - you can find it by reading (problems with toprol xl) it should come up ! a long while ago (years) bbc news reported the u.k medical asso , had found beta blockers caused cholesterol to build up in most people who took it. so they limited the use of beta blockers - they also reported that due to adverse side effects , beta blockers would be in limited useage in the u.k.
Avatar f tn Toprol XL is a slow release medication designed to deliver dose over 24 hour time period and it takes a week or so for the blood level to stabilize to achieve effect. It shouldn't make any difference when you take it as long as it is the same time each day. Have you discussed this problem with your doctor..perhaps a lower dosage or try another beta blocker. I take 100 mg/day and don't notice any side effects, but drug response is variable.
Avatar n tn I have had atrial flutter for the past 8 years, and have been taking up to 100mg of Flecanide twice a day. I also take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL. I was recently diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy (numbness and tingling or burning) in the hands and mostly the feet. I have read that some people who take Flecanide have contracted Perepheral Neuropathy. Is this typical of all AF drugs. I am in Mexico, and a local doctor suggested that I switch to a drug called RYTHMOL.
406399 tn?1201884300 I belive your totaly right! about Toprol xl being the one beta blocker with more side effects , than others have. I will ask about Coreg (carvedilol ) as I never have tryed that one before. might work ? worth a shot ! im very aware of h.b.p and not being on something to keep it down. its just very hard to find a hmo or even ppo doctor that will work with me. and switch meds.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 50mg of Toprol XL for a few yrs now and have not noticed any of those side effects. Please let us know what you found out!! Do you have PVC's or what kind of arrhythmias?
343006 tn?1314446471 I then e mailed the makers of toprol xl - and they confirmed toprol xl can cause ringing of the ears as a known side effect. I also checked DIovan and its listed as well - Due to this , I guess the next best thing to do is see my Doctor and complain to get off the medications or switch them. thanks too for info on h.b.p and how it can cause ringing in the ears, when its too high .. I recheck and check my b.p everyday 3 to 4 times daily- when medicatated its down to normal levels.
Avatar n tn I am now on toprol XL 50mg once a day. My blood pressure is running 120/71 now. when the PVC are happening I am dizzy and cannot think straight. I dont know how I can just live with this when I feel so flush and cannot function. Seems like 1/3 less pulses means 30 % less oxygen carrying RBC are circulating. It seems debilitating to me. Can the toprol XL dose be increased without running my blood pressure down too low. How high can it be raised safely.
Avatar n tn the big problem is, most doctors in hmos or ppo plans -refuse to take people off this medication! even due to adverse side effects , they more less try to ban aid patch over the bad side effects with another drug , that most times causes more side effects to happen ! its Playing God ! Toprol had the most side effects - out all the beta blockers I took ! the worst being Hair loss - and vision problems and rapid waight ! long term useage also can cause - blood sugar to go high or low.
Avatar f tn Hi, Everyone. My EP switched me from Sotalol (160 mg daily) to Toprol XL (25 mg daily). His instructions were to stop taking Sotalol (no weaning) and start taking Toprol. It was a HUGE leap of faith for me as I have tried to not obsess about this. Today was my first day. I'm doing fine, but want to know if anyone else has made the same switch and faired well. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
Avatar n tn I contacted my cardiologist because I had a couple episodes where it felt like my heart was fluttering. I have been on Toprol XL for a little over a year (25mg) due to having a afib attack last memorial day and having to be converted. I have been fine until lately when last Monday my BP shot up to 170/90. She had me do a holter study for 2 days to see what was happening. She told me that my heart rate was running too high and that I had a 30 second episode of atrial flutter.
Avatar m tn I am no cardiologist but I have been taking toprol xl for the last 7 years and it seems that the only side effect is being tired but it could be the heart failure making me tired :)
Avatar m tn m @210 (still overweight) and on low dosages of Lisinopril (10mg), Toprol XL (25mg), and a diuretic (37.5). Over the past 4 weeks, I've experienced some morning sluggishness and ED. It's not a sudden onset; I've been very cold some nights at bedtime, had sporatic ED... and I walk 5 miles a day four or more times a week... so up to now, no one has been surprised about a pulse of 60. Only now my pulse is often @ 50 and occasionally in the mid to upper 40's.
Avatar n tn I suffered no ill effects other than the predictable side effects of beta and channel blockers which are abating as my body has learned to tolerate the drug. As for being tired all the time, that is definitely one of the symptoms of afib, at least for me. It is very debilitating. Fatigue is also a possible side effect of beta blockers of all types so it could be caused by the Toprol.
406399 tn?1201884300 I have a @uestion please : After 6years on Toprol xl and Diovan , my Doctor switched me to another medication - verapamill and maxide - iv taken these before and had problems with them both !! fact is the verapamill ccb caused palpatations. and I was put on a beta blocker from that point on.. as to stop the palps and control the b.p. / the Toprol xl and diovan both lowered b.p well and stopped the palps for me.. but iv been living life in pain and suffering for 6years now..
Avatar n tn I have been prescribed Acebutolol for PVC's and I am literally exhausted since beginning this medication but I didn't see that as one of the side effects. Also, my vision is blurred. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn To anyone who has suffered serious side effects of Metoprolol Succinate ER (Generic form of Toprol XL), please take 5 minutes and fill out an FDA medwatch form. The web site is: https://www.accessdata.fda.
Avatar f tn MY DOCTOR ABRUPTLY TOOK ME OFF OF TOPROL XL 25 MG AND SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN HAVING HORRIBLE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS. Avatar n tn Hi, I had a second ablation about 9 months ago and it apparently was successful because I have been in normal sinus rhythm since then. the problem I'm experiencing is with my heart rate. since the ablation proceedure my heart rate elevated to 100-110 bpm. my EP prescribed cardizem cd and it is keeping it under control now. the side effects are what's causing me problems. my toes and lower legs are feeling numb.
Avatar n tn I had an SVT in Sep of 2007. Cardiologist started me on Toprol XL. The side effects were awful. After doing a stress test and telling me I had no heart problems, he took me off of it cold turkey. I was off of it for 48 hours and the whole time my blood pressure was high and pulse never went below 120. I went to My family physician and he was very concerned about my blood pressure which was 162/106 at the time of my visit with a heart rate of 129.
Avatar f tn TOPROL or METOLAR cause numb and/or tingling hands and feet etc. "Stopping suddenly can cause a stroke or heat attack!" How do you reduce gradually since it is the extended release type which should not be broken or crushed? The one I have (Metolar) has 165 tiny white pills in a gelatin capsule but the pills probably have different release times and they all look the same. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn Since they are in the same family of drugs, you really shouldn't have any side effects. I went off propanol onto Toprol XL, both beta blockers with no issues at all. The problem may be in the dosage or even the fact it's a generic. I find the generic not to be as effective as the brand but perhaps that's just me. I suggest you call the doctor or pharmacist. You are on a very low dose. I take 50mg of Toprol XL twice daily and that does not totally keep the SVT under control.
