Toprol xl heart rate

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl heart rate

toprol

Avatar m tn m curious is that people that have demand pacemakers will have their heart rate maintained at a certain point if their heart rate drops too low. Taking too much of a Beta Blocker can drop your heart rate, with a demand pacemaker, it would be assured to be maintained at a certain rate. Also, your doctor may have choosen your dosage based on your conditions, not simply rate control, I would discuss this with your doctor.
Avatar m tn I recently started taking Toprol xl 25 mg because my resting heart rate will sometimes be a little above 100. The cardiologist i went to told me to take it only when i have an episode of a fast heart rate which only happens like every other day or so. After reading information on the drug through i feel like all the websites say to take it every day. Is it still safe to take it every few days or so?
Avatar n tn Well, in my case it seems to be keeping my heart rate between 70-90 bpm. I take 360 mg daily of the cardizem cd. I tried to withdraw from it. I took diovan hct and metoprolol after I withdrew from the cardizem cd but after 24 hours my heart rate was up to 110 bpm. my bp was normal but none of the other meds would bring my heart rate down. I took my regular dosage of the cardizem cd and my heart rate came back down to normal.
Avatar m tn 46 superventricular beats. average heart rate 68 BPM minumum 53 BPM. No ST segmental changes were noted. ST segment analysis on each EKG channel. The total time of ST depression >2mm over baseline was 0.8. QTC interval is normal. There were 0 pauses of 2.5 seconds. Frequent uniform ventricular ectopic beats are noted. A prescription for Toprol XL 12.5 mg issued. Should I take it considering it is a beta-blocker and reduces the heart rate?
Avatar f tn They decrease the heart rate. Less heart beats = less PACs/PVCs although the ratio probably stays much the same. I'm on a beta blocker for fast resting heart rate. It controls that, but I've had bigeminy, v-tach and other things. The atenolol that I take comes in 25mg doses. I've been up to 100 mg a day with no difference. In fact, I seemed to have more PVCs on the higher dosages. I currently take 25 mg. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I_mort I take toprol XL to lower my heart rate and BP. It does affect your erectile function. I'm 45 and I started at 1/2 dose the doc told me which was 12.5 mg at night. Because I wasn't getting the effect I needed I uped it to 25 mg at night. I'm not totally dysfunctional but have noticed a definite decrease in that department. I suspect it can affect some of us that way.
Avatar n tn The medication also reduces the force of contraction of heart muscle and thereby lowers blood pressure. By reducing the heart rate and the force of muscle contraction, the medication reduces the need for oxygen by heart muscle. This should reduce the burden for the heart and lower heart rate. I provide a perspective, but the pharmaceutical interaction with the individual.
Avatar n tn I only take 30mg. Cardizem as needed....and can double it if necessary....but if my b/p and heart rate are so low...I am concerned that my b/p will go back down to 80/48 with pulse of 46 as it did on .25 Bisopherol...way too low. I feel as if I am just on my own with this. The doc wants to see me in May. Good Grief. Any suggestions.....please.
Avatar n tn My dr put me on Benicar 20mg and Toprol XL 25mg to lower my blood pressure. I have a fast pulse too (always over 100). Will these meds lower my pulse also?
Avatar n tn 25 mg of Toprol XL is a VERY small dose. I know plenty of patients at the hospital I work at, that take well into the 100mg + beta blocker regimen. I would imagine if you had any side effects, they would be minor. Beta blockers are safer than the anti-arrhythmic drugs that are sometimes used for pvc's. Toprol XL will lower your heart rate and blood pressure and the sensation of your heart beating. However, it is unlikely to solve your pvc issues.
Avatar n tn The Toprol would be out of your system in about 3-4 days. Toprol does not cause fast heart rates, it actually decreases heart rates. There is still a lot of room to increase the cardizem CD to help decrease your heart rate.k I hope this helps.
280234 tn?1532986249 I was later switched to Toprol XL 25 mg to control the tachycardia better. I was on that several years. I then found out I was pregnant with my second child, and switched to Labetalol. After having the 2nd baby (which was a normal delivery) I was put on Toprol XL again by my PCP. I was eventually referred to a cardiologist by my PCP to evaluate the high BP & tachycardia as a precaution. I now have a cardiologist.
Avatar f tn ve had even monitors before and have always taken all my medication, including my Toprol XL. Were you on the monitor for PACs or PVCs or palps?? Do you usually get them everyday? Maybe an event monitor would be better for you - you wear it for a month, and when you get symptoms, you press the button, and after 5 events, you call a number, and replay the monitor back to them.
Avatar n tn My family doctor had put me on Zanax 2 days prior, then sent me to a cardiologist for the symptoms. The day I went, my heart rate was normal. Since then I have tried to get off of toprol once on my own, and now my heart doctor said my blood pressure is too low. When I tried, I seemed to have some kind of flu symptoms coinciding on day 5 of cutting my 25mg tablet in half. My heart rate went to 100. Because I was dehydrated, the nurse said I should go back on the 25mg.
Avatar f tn What is too low ? I have been on Toprol XL since 2004, starting at 50mg for several years then lowered for a few, then upped early August to 50mg daily. After a few days of a faster heart rate and skipped beats, my cardio doctor upped my doasge again to 100mg in the morning and 50mg at night, Yesterday was the first time to take 100mg in the morning. My BP readings were around 115 (systolic) with the diastolic running in the low 50's and at one time 45. Pulse was in the 50's.
Avatar m tn I have been taking 50ml of Toprol XL for three weeks. I am going off of it today, and was wondering if I should wean off of it?
Avatar f tn I have had increased blood pressure and heart rate over the last several months and my doctor put me on Toprol XL 25mg. Now I am having severe pain in my right knee which goes down into my ankle causing sharp pain. Could this problem be caused by the medication I am taking for my BP? I am taking the generic form, Metoprolol ER. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Called doc and nurse said I was dehydrated and that is what caused the rapid heart rate. Now two days later, my heart rate is still running around 70-75 when it used to run 58-60 normally before this episode. Is this due to the medication and can zolof and toprol in combo increase the heart rate, my doc seemed more worried it would lower it.
Avatar f tn My blood pressure runs around 91/60 and my pulse rate at 50 is this to low is this why I might feel sluggish and tired with no energy. I take medicine for tachycardia 50 mg p/day of toprol xl.
Avatar m tn Are you in permanent AFib, or do you have periods of normal sinus rhythm? What is you blood pressure and resting heart rate? High BP can cause heart enlargement. Is the heart size stable, not continuing to enlarge? Are you taking an anticoagulant to reduce stroke risk? I am much older and suffer from Permanent AFib, for which I take drugs to control the ventricle HR and and anticoagulant to reduce stroke risks associated with blood clot formation in the fibrillating atrium.
Avatar n tn I have frequent PVC's (often with bigeminy) and I also have lots of reflux problems. I have been getting a lot more PVC's the past couple of weeks. I switched from Toprol XL to generic Metoprolol, and I I don't know if that has had any affect. I have also had increased reflux issues during this time. I am getting more PVC's and bigeminy than normal and am noticing it most when I lean forward, especailly while eating. Does this sound like the PVC's are coming from reflux?
Avatar f tn MY DOCTOR ABRUPTLY TOOK ME OFF OF TOPROL XL 25 MG AND SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN HAVING HORRIBLE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SEVERE ANXIETY AND JITTERS...FEEL LIKE I WANT JUMP OUT OF MY SKIN. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 4 WEEKS. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG THIS LASTS? DOES ANYONE KNOW IF GABA HELPS? 280234 tn?1532986249 I am a 28 year old female, and mother of 2 young kids. After the labor & delivery of my first child 6 years ago, I developed high BP and what seemed to be a faster heartbeat. I am kind of an anxious person, so I attributed the heartbeat to that. I went to my PCP over the BP and he diagnosed anxiety related hypertension, and didn't think I needed to see a cardiologist. So I took Atenolol, and was then switched to Toprol XL to control the BP & heart rate, which it seemed to do.

Avatar n tn i have graves diseas and i take toprol xl 10mg for tachycardia. i recently was awakened by severe chest pains and continued until i saw my endocronoligist which was 6 hrs. they did an EKG & it was bradycardia @ 45 bpm and my blood pressure @ 90/50. I was sent to ER & admitted to 23 observation. they did a stress test, chest Xray, blood work (troponin levels), d-dimer and all came back normal & was then discharged with heart rate @ 46..blood pressure @ 83/46 and chest pains..
Avatar n tn Now, with this medicine, no matter how hard I push I cannot get my heart rate over 125. Interestingly, my resting heart rate has not dropped that much and is now around 140 and I have not had any problems (more than usual) when standing. I recognize that most people would be happy to keep their heart rate below 120 but for me, competitive running and cycling is part of my life style and I am thinking of discontinuing the beta blocker.
