Toprol xl generic name

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl generic name

toprol

Avatar m tn My Doctor started me on Toprol-XL approximately 10 days ago. A low dosage from what I read (.25mg). My two primary side effect symptons are tiredness/lethargy and a bit of anxiety/nervousness. These are the most common from all that I have read. My question is will these eventually go away as my body gets used to/ more tolerant of the drug?
Avatar f tn Almost all my patients are on generic medications including generic toprol xl. There are some medications that have a recognized difference between brand name and generic, and there are some brand name drugs that do not have generics because they were too difficult to produce. The medication will be out of your system in less than 5 days. As far as lasting effects, it is difficult to say. Like I mentioned, I have not heard of this happening before and have no personal experience with it.
Avatar f tn I know for sure the switch to generic caused me all of the problems because I have been back on the Brand name TOPROL XL 50 mg for 3 days and I am VERY happy to say I feel WONDERFUL and I have my life back! Beta Blockers have always worked for me (been on them for at least 20 years), but this generic stuff is horrible! The people who make the generics have no idea how they reak havok on people with arrhythmias, I was MISERABLE and couldn't figure it out. I lost 3 months of my life.
Avatar n tn Also having issues with generic Toprol XL - racing pulse, irregular heartbeats - only started since switching. Thought it was my imagination until reading these forums.
406399 tn?1201887900 I have a @uestion please : After 6years on Toprol xl and Diovan , my Doctor switched me to another medication - verapamill and maxide - iv taken these before and had problems with them both !! fact is the verapamill ccb caused palpatations. and I was put on a beta blocker from that point on.. as to stop the palps and control the b.p. / the Toprol xl and diovan both lowered b.p well and stopped the palps for me.. but iv been living life in pain and suffering for 6years now..
214864 tn?1229718839 I tryed generic toprol xl and had very bad side effects and problems from it.. forced me to buy the non generic toprol xl for $$$ out of pocket !! due to Medco plan for meds. I think the FDA should check all the b.p meds Generic and Non Generic for problems as well. and really check the big pharm companys outside the U.S.A . that send us some of these drugs ! I would be 9 out of 10 companys wouldnt meet the u.s. standerts !
Avatar f tn Hi my name is Nicole, 21 yrs old. My general practitioner refilled my generic toprol xl as generic lopressor without informing me of the change. This was supposedly due to a pill shortage and I had to figure it out on my own. I'm just wondering if anyone has been switched from toprol xl to lopressor and if so what kind of side effects, if any, have you had? I was taking toprol xl 25 mg in the am and 12.5 in the evening, and continued to do the same thing with the generic lopressor.
406399 tn?1201887900 what is the best way to wean off ,of toprol xl beta blocker medication. iv been on it for 2yrs now and I dont like its effects at all. been to 2 doctors and they refused to take me off it ? or change it to another medication. I was put on this med for palpitations that come and go. and high blood pressure that wont drop down easy at times! my ekg tests over the years have been normal and had stress tests done , again normal ? why then toprol xl ??
Avatar m tn I was just diagnosed with high blood pressure, and the doctor prescribed toprol xl, 25 mgs. Try not to worry about stuff you read on the internet. You can google "aspirin" and find all kinds of horror stories, and it is one of the safest drugs in the world for most folks. We are on very, VERY low doses of this drug. I've only been on mine 2 days! I know that some generics made in India can contain fillers and preservatives that don't agree with some people....
Avatar n tn I am on 100mg of Toprol XL twice a day and have had an ablation for Ventricular Tachycardia 4 months ago. I am wondering if the large dose of Toprol could be contributing to an increase in PVC activity?
Avatar f tn On searching the internet, I came across alot of message boards that say that alot of people have had many side effects, including arrythmias, when they were switched from name brand Toprol XL to the generic version. I was on Toprol XL for over 10 years with no problems. I was switched by my drug company last October and the PVC's started in November. In Feb, I was switched again to generic Lopressor, which from what I heard, is the same things only not extended-release.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is the GENERIC name for Toprol XL.. The drug which is off patent is available in generics made by different labs, one of them being EON Labs. I was able to determine, without hesitation, that the generic was ineffective. I may as well have taken a placebo for all the difference it made, which is to say that my blood pressure was totally uncontrolled. Of course, the pharmacist insisted the brand name and generics were identical in formulation.
926651 tn?1244143966 Not everyone can take Toprol XL. Most likely this is a side effect of the Tropol. Are you taking the generic or brand name? Brand name is always better with heart medications. There are other beta blockers such as "Coreg".
Avatar n tn Hi Deke3, It is possible your symptoms resulted from not taking your Toprol XL 100 mg (generic name metoprolol). Metoprolol is a beta blocker. It blocks receptors in your heart responsible for increased heart rates and increasing the strength of your heart muscle contractions. Studies show that people with coronary artery disease have fewer arrhythmias and future cardiac events when they take beta blockers.
Avatar f tn My husband also has irregular heart rate and this week we got him switched back from generic metoprolol succinate to toprol XL and lo and behold he is back in good heart rhythm. That got me thinking if indeed my problem could be similiar.......one thing that has really upset me is that after my heart attack my EF was at 42% and it has dropped to 30% and again wonder if I need to be on diferent drugs. My dr thinks that isn't the answer but I'm not sure...... Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn Many people report an increase in heart palpitations after switching from Toprol XL to its generic version, Metoprolol. My guess is that the generic version is ****, which is the case with many generics, despite what the FDA tells consumers.
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar n tn I understand Metoprolol SR and Toprol XL are equivalent, the Metoprolol being the generic, and much lower in cost. I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL. I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest. I have been trying lower dose to see if that reduces the dream problem I have.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone, I have had PVCs for years and have been on toprol XL to try and control them. I found out the name brand toprol works much better than the generic. The question I have is recently I have been experiencing a kind of delayed heart rate response to exercise. Toprol keeps my Heart rate fairly low (around 50-60s). When I walk a flight of stairs I feel fine until a minute or so after I am already up the stairs, then my heart rate goes up and I start breathing hard.
Avatar f tn Spent the day getting my doc to put me on Brand Toprol XL. I found 1 leftover pill of the one by Wockhardt today- feel better than on the other brand in just one dose. Cant wait until I get the brand name stuff tomorrow.
685562 tn?1447158831 I had issues and became quite ill when I switched from Toprol XL to a generic. All issues resolved after discontinuing the generic. FDA did find some substandard practices with the company manufacturing the generic. This is what I found after some research: FDA regulations require generics to have the same active ingredients, be bioequivalent, and have a high purity. Inactive ingredients do not have to be the same and the generic can never look like the brand name.
Avatar m tn saw palmetto class: herbal products Cardura XL generic name: doxazosin class: antiadrenergic agents, peripherally acting
Avatar f tn I just realized last night that the prescription I received as of April 1st was NOT generic Toprol XL (long acting beta blocker) but generic Lopressor (short acting beta blocker). It was switched by my general practitioner bc of a pill shortage, WITHOUT my knowledge. Neither the doctor nor pharmacist told me of any switch. So possibly this has to do with the breakthrough episodes. Instead of lasting 24 hrs, the generic Lopressor only last 10-12. Completely unbelievable!
1520499 tn?1291061965 At some point metoprolol (generic for Toprol XL) became unavailable, was switched to brand name Toprol XL, and have stayed with it since much fewer side effects, namely less "brain fog." My tachycardia seems to be set off by preservatives, incl sulfites/ates, nitrites/ates, flavor enhancers like monosodium glutamate, and red pepper flake. Black pepper in moderation doesn't seem to be a problem for me.
Avatar f tn While looking on the internet yesterday, I cam across alot of posts where people were talking about getting sick when the dr, changed their Toprol XL to generic. I was on name brand Toprol XL for probably 10 years or more...no problems. They changed me to generic in October and in November is when I started having the PVC's. Has anyone heard of this causing the PVC's?
183202 tn?1219857259 I was able to shake myself to after about 10-20 seconds, but it shocked me and I did not know what to think of it. I also want to make you aware of the generic for Toprol I was on. Both the generics by Sandoz and Ethex for Toprol XL have been proven to be less effective, and even have caused adverse side effects while the regular Toprol does not, as well as it can also do the opposite of what Toprol is supposed to do.
Avatar n tn Just a few comments...some people do better with the brand name Toprol than with the generic. Did you have an event Holter monitor study done to determine exactly what is occurring during the palpitations? Have you had a complete work up...echo, cat scan, stress test? If you scan some of the posts you will discover that many of us have "normal" palpitations. Certainly your Afib adds to the mix. Have you search the internet..there are some good Afib sites. Good luck.
Avatar n tn So, I went back and saw a different Dr who assured me several times that the EKG was perfectly normal and that there was nothing wrong except my pvcs and these were totally non-life threatening. He put me on Toprol-XL, 50 mg. this has really helped, but the pvcs have not stopped entirely, but have subsided dramatically. Here's my question: I am STILL scared something is wrong - would the EKG show if there were heart damamge etc.?
21064 tn?1309312333 Hi, I take Toprol for sinus tachycardia. When I was switched to the generic Metoprolol succ er, I started getting PVC's. I would stay away from generic.
183202 tn?1219857259 I have heard of all sorts of weird reactions to these drugs, with people having hair loss and of course just end up switching back to the Name-Brand Toprol XL and being FINE afterwards. So could this also have caused my seizure-like spell? And WAS it a seizure?? Or just something coincidental? It sure as hell seems like a seizure (more Petit Mal in origin), but was it? I have read somewhere of people with panic attacks and panic disorder having seizure like spells.
