Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl for tachycardia

toprol

Avatar n tn I am a 24 year old female who was recently diagnosed with Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia. I have been on 100 mg of Toprol XL for about one month now. My symptoms were major exercise intolerance, high resting heart rate and spells of tachycardia, fatigue, shortness of breath, profuse sweating, dizziness and blackout spells. The medicine seems to help more than any other I have been on. However, I am wondering about its side effects.
Avatar n tn My family doctor recently took over management of my treatment of palpitations and occasional nighttime tachycardia. I was taking 100mg of Toprol XL. After losing 25 pounds, I had a resting heart rate in the 50s. At the same time, Toprol was no longer being produced, so Dr. put me on 25mg of Atenolol. First night, I experienced terrible panic and anxiety, low heart rate continued. After 3 days on Atenolol, I was put on 120 mg of Diltiazem.
Avatar n tn The correct coversion of toprol xl 300 mg = lopressor 150 bid for a total of 300 daily. It should have not been 300 mg qd at once as this should have been giving in divided doses. Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn 5mg since Wednesday of this week, as I figure the SSRI might help the root cause rather than the beta blocker covering up the tachycardia but still feeling anxious and fearful. My question is, does anyone know if 12.5 of Toprol-XL and 20mg of Celexa will cause an interaction? I certainly don't want to develop any more problems than I already have going for me.
Avatar n tn There is no connection taht I know of between toprol xl or any other beta blocker and severe abdominal pain. It is possible to have POTS and IST, in fact there is some overlap between these syndromes. As you know, we don't fully understand POTS or IST. They are very frustrating conditions. Another frequent issue is the overlap between IST and fibromyalgia. We know that if we successfully treat IST, either through medications or procedures, they often still continue to have symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hi - I was on toprol xl for about 6.5 years - the high dose is 200mg top end. for toprol xl - dont know how anyone can take it at that dose ! Doctors give a beta blocker for palpatations in most cases. however some give ccb's like verapamil as they too can control palps. I myself am doing a study on palpaitions - causes and how to control them. and or stop them totaly! with or without medications. I think it would be wise, if your b.
Avatar n tn 36yo white female, history of Sinus Tachycardia, Questionable SVT but most likely high rate Sinus Tachycardia, Been on toprol xl 100mg 2x daily, Also have bigeminal PVCs often sustained also placed on Cardizem LA 180mg. Several stress echos and was told everything was fine just some minor regergitation. Not real comfortable with Cardiologist so opted to seek evaluation of a 2nd cardiologist today.
Avatar f tn I take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL per day (any more and my BP drops very low). When I'm on Toprol, I don't have the waking in the night spells but when I'm off it I do (I've tried to get off once last summer and had to start taking it again). When I had the urine test back in October 2004, I had just started Toprol XL and was taking 12.5 mg per day for about a week before the test.
343006 tn?1314450071 ahh you have one bad effect I read , dizzyness .. that adds a strike aginst Toprol xl !! I just got off toprol xl after weaning down slow for the past 2months, I have to say I feel wonderfull ! have energy and the one bad side effect I had went away totaly now.. low blood sugar problems. caused with long term useage 3 to 5 yrs .. Avatar n tn I have been experiencing tachycardia episodes for close to 22 years now. For the last 5 years I have had to take medication (Verapimil 240 mg). I haven't experience but 2 minor episodes since being on the medication. I am concerned that my pottasium levels play a part in my tachycardia. The last time I had to go to the ER, my blood work showed that I had hardly any pottasium in my system. My cardio Dr. says that there is no correlation between the two.
189238 tn?1208730919 , the only thing he found was a mild aortic schlerosis, which is common in many seniors over 60. However, I was prescribed Toprol, then Toprol XL, and finally atenolol, for blood pressure regulation. My resting blood pressure was 130 over 85 before the meds. I still have the PVT and PVC, sometimes in sequence with each other and normal beats. I have experienced many different patterns and, on 2 occasions, went to the ER.
Avatar f tn I'm just wondering if anyone has been switched from toprol xl to lopressor and if so what kind of side effects, if any, have you had? I was taking toprol xl 25 mg in the am and 12.5 in the evening, and continued to do the same thing with the generic lopressor. Unfortunately for me, this was NOT the same, b/c the lopressor only lasts 10-12 hours and I was getting breakthrough tachycardia quite often. Thanks for any input!
Avatar f tn I was previously taking 25 mg in the am and 12.5 mg in the evening of the generic Toprol XL. Now I am taking 25 mg in the morning of generic Lopressor, and another 25 in the evening, but less than a full 12 hours apart. For example I will take the 25mg at 7 am, another 12.5 at 2pm and another 12.5 at around 6 or so.I have had breakthrough tachycardia, mostly when I wake up in the morning or a few hours after. Could this be caused by the change in medication?
687614 tn?1244201579 00 am and the same 50 mg at bed time 9:00 pm. A riddle in of itself!!! I have approached my doctor's about this. One says that it is okay to still take my Toprol XL 50 mg. even though my BP is 99/56 and my pulse is 58. Another says that if I don't I will have breakthrough SVT's that are even tough for ER to get down sometimes (though it is not deadly so they say!). Who's right and who's wrong!!!
Avatar n tn all the tests came back fine and the doc thinks it was caused by stress/anxiety or something i ate. i am on a low dosage of toprol xl 50 mg 1 a day.. my question is this. since it happend only once am i better off staying on toprol or taking a anxiety medicine like lexapro daily or taking xanax just when i need it. it seems kind of weird to me taking toprol when nothing is wrong with my heart. any help???
Avatar n tn I am on 100mg of Toprol XL twice a day and have had an ablation for Ventricular Tachycardia 4 months ago. I am wondering if the large dose of Toprol could be contributing to an increase in PVC activity?
Avatar f tn I assume he can tell the difference between STV and sinus tachycardia but to me they feel the same. I already take 50mg Toprol XL twice a day. He wants me to take a half pill extra when I take my regular pill. I really don't want to because a beta blocker wipes me totally out. I can barely get through the day. When I took my first beta blocker, I had to take a nap and have done so every day since then and, as I said, that was in the eighties.
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
Avatar n tn Once at the hospital I was injected with adenosine (extremely unpleasant by the way), which only worsened the situation. Eventually, I was injected with toprol XL, which over the next 20 minutes decreased my heart rate to approximately 100 bpm. I was sent home within the next few hours, and prescribed daily tablets of toprol XL. Well, I took these beta blockers over the next week or so, but due to some chest pains and extreme fatigue I was taken off of them.
279670 tn?1247916838 Hello to anyone who can help me out a little here: Was on 100mg of toprol xl for one year for one case of tachycardia they thought (but still feel that was wrong) Then went up to 150mg for two years. They never found anything wrong with me or my heart before or after...BP is normal now Finally side effect were insane I could go on and on but that is irrelvant at this point in the game I weaned off of the meds slowly I thought for 6 weeks or so...
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing othostatic tachycardia for about two years, with palpitations, after testing, bileafet Mitral valve prolapse of a moderate degree with mild to mod. MR was a diagnosis, with myxomatous changes also. I have been taking Toprol Xl daily which has helped the frequent PAC's, PVC's, and PSVT all documented with holter and event recorder.
Avatar f tn Dear Di: I have taken toprol xl for about 12 years and have not had a problem with it.. The XL stands for extended life.. it is not all released at once in your system..So I would say the reason you cant take it just when you have a problem is that your body does not get the full effect immediately.. You have to take it and build it up as I understand it.. dunno not a dr...but thats the way Ive always understood it.. basically its a very safe medication to take... hope this helps.. .
Avatar n tn My heart rate was 116 and my bp was 163/82. This seems pretty bad, considering I'm on 50mg Toprol XL. I've been on this for about 3 months after a trip to the ER for similar symptoms, except they occurred while wide awake and my HR was about 140. I was told it was sinus tachycardia at that time and was sent home, after an overnight stay, with the Toprol. I thought the Toprol was working. It seemed to help with the palps, too. I feel like I'm back to square one.
Avatar n tn I was ust advised that I have Ven Tachycardia and was given Toprol-xl 25mg 1 qd. I just went on there web site and this med is used for high bp and angina. I am wondering if amyone knows if this is the correct med to help with my sxs's (racing heart beat 180 bpm and vertigo?
Avatar n tn He then said my chest pain wasn't cardiac in nature, and gave me Rx's for Toprol XL 100 mg. 1 time a day & Verapamil 180 mg 2 times a day to slow my heart rate & said to return in 6 months. I am still tired all the time and a week ago for the 1st time ever my ankles/feet became swollen & still are, my BP and pulse became lower (100-118/56-68 & P. 62-76) and I think I may have bronchitics. Since I was told my symptoms aren't cardiac in nature what could be going on with me?
Avatar f tn I have had two attempted ablations with no sucsess only because they cannot induce my vt during the eps. I did try toprol xl the smalles does possibel and still cut it in half im very sensitive to meds and the third day into it I had the worst episode every luckily I had a loop recorder implanted and it was recorded. it was 26 beats long felt like i was going to die.. thats why I had the first eps done. with all that said I have had all the work ups possible and I have a normal healthy heart.
Avatar n tn ) I don't have any shortness of breath, dizziness, etc. I feel fine (except nervous about this situation). I'm on 25 mg Toprol XL daily, as a "precaution," by doc said. My questions are: Everything I've ready about VT is very serious. Can a healthy heart slip into a really bad rhythm without an underlying causes? In other words, could this have been a fluke? Should I be worried about the size of my left ventricular chamber? Is my EJ low?
Avatar n tn degree and mild to mod. MR. I have been on Toprol XL for six months for daily PAC's, PVC's, PSVT all documented with moniters and even during tests. The Toprol has not been effective, even with dose increases. My lying and sitting heart rate is around 65bpm with a sudden acceleration to over 100(recorded highest 126) in less than a minute upon standing.
Avatar f tn I have pacs pvcs, svt, aivr and nsvt. Longest nsvt was 26 beats with 187bpm when I was on low dose of toprol xl for three days. I just recently went and saw my cardio/ep and she said that the only two options I have is to do nothing or try flecinide. Well flecinide scares me to death. I would have to be hospital for the first three days. She did a echo and everything is fine with trace mvp. My ef is 74%. She believes flecinide is my answer.
