Toprol xl for pvcs

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl for pvcs

toprol

Avatar m tn My Doctor started me on Toprol-XL approximately 10 days ago. A low dosage from what I read (.25mg). My two primary side effect symptons are tiredness/lethargy and a bit of anxiety/nervousness. These are the most common from all that I have read. My question is will these eventually go away as my body gets used to/ more tolerant of the drug?
Avatar n tn She is switching me from tenormin to Toprol-XL. I've taken tenormin for 18 years. Is anyone here taking this? and if so what has your experiance been with it?
Avatar f tn I've taken Toprol XL for several years. It controls my PVCs and PACs very effectively, although it apparently doesn't work for everybody :( I take 50 mgs. at night as that is when they were most troublesome. My doctor also suggested that Toprol would be helpful for my my own version of stage fright...fear of flying! Popping an extra one does seem to control my anxiety, although nothing less than being comatose would really work. Best of luck, hope it works for you.
Avatar n tn I went to the EP Dr 2 weeks ago (30000 pvcs and 133 nsvt). He took me off my Calan and put me on Toprol 50 mgs once a day. After about a week I noticed my pulse was down to the 30's and 40's and BP was running 80/50's. I called the office and the nurse said to cut back to 25mg and chart my BP and pulse for a week and call them back. They are having a hard time believing that I'm reacting this way to it, since I was on 240 mg, twice a day of Calan.
Avatar n tn My husband has a history of intermittent PVC caught on a nuclear perfusion stress test. His physician has prescribed Toprol XL on a prn basis when he is aware of "skipped beats". My nursing drug handbook states using Toprol for arrythmia is an unlabed use, and I understand how that works. I'm just curious about the PRN prescription as I haven't been able to find information about that.
Avatar n tn My doctor has prescribed me 25 mg Toprol XL for the PVC's (flutters) I get after I eat. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little leary. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know what the common side effects are?
Avatar n tn I was taking Toprol XL for a over a year for high BP, long before getting palps, so they obviously didn't prevent them or slow them down. Guess, like with most meds, it effects everyone differently.
Avatar f tn but back to the issue at hand, I was placed on the toprol xl for pvc's and to help lower my blood pressure. It has calmed the pvc's and bp problem, but I have this miserable bloating problem and sometimes severe abdominal pain, swelling in my hands/feet has worsened, can't think straight, ringing in my ears from time to time. Has anyone of you out there had these issues with this medication? oh and I don't sleep well at all. 4-6 hrs max. and even then I do alot of tossing and turning.
Avatar n tn Offhand, I'd first say (with everything you listed there normal) you are NOT going to die of this. For all of us with frequent PVCs it feels like you're going to die at points and the stress is crazy, which makes it worse. But remember there are people on here that had had PVCs damn near their whole life and they're still ticking. Advice? Listen to your doctors for one - if what they say is not enough for you, and it usually isn't, get another opinion.
Avatar n tn 36yo white female, history of Sinus Tachycardia, Questionable SVT but most likely high rate Sinus Tachycardia, Been on toprol xl 100mg 2x daily, Also have bigeminal PVCs often sustained also placed on Cardizem LA 180mg. Several stress echos and was told everything was fine just some minor regergitation. Not real comfortable with Cardiologist so opted to seek evaluation of a 2nd cardiologist today.
Avatar f tn I've had even monitors before and have always taken all my medication, including my Toprol XL. Were you on the monitor for PACs or PVCs or palps?? Do you usually get them everyday? Maybe an event monitor would be better for you - you wear it for a month, and when you get symptoms, you press the button, and after 5 events, you call a number, and replay the monitor back to them.
Avatar f tn HI I just read your post. I was taking Toprol xl for over a year for sinus tach. My pharmacy switched me to the generic brand. 2 weeks later I started getting skipped beats (PVC I presume). I had never had them before. Went to the cardio and he didn't think it could be the generic brand, but switched me back to Toprol. It has been almost a month and I am still getting pvc's. I do believe it was the generic. If we don't complain, then no one will know.
Avatar f tn I hate them. I am Toprol XL 50mg. It helps, but doesn't not get rid of all of them. I have had them everyday now for 7 months. I wish there was something to totally make them go away.
554422 tn?1220578966 I've had PVCs for 2 days already ater having a break for 2 weeks, sometimes I get them every 15 regular heartbeats and sometimes I get them every 3rd or 4th heartbeat. Well today I felt great, pvc and all, I run for 1.5 miles and felt great after but about 4 hours later I went to a Mercedes dealer and did some design work for about 1 hour and when I was finished I felt nauseous with a slight pain in my chest which lasted for about 40 minutes.
Avatar n tn Just wanted to let you know that I am 33, have had PVCs and PSVT for 10 years, I also had a baby 12 months ago. My PVCs did flare up during pregnancy, especially in my 3rd trimester and I had a short run of PSVT which I went to hospital for but everything turned out ok. The good news for me was that breastfeeding totally eliminated my pvcs (so I breastfed for a year). Maybe because I was not ovulating as much when I breastfed and therefore did not have the usual hormone cycling.
Avatar n tn For what it is worth, I took Toprol XL for about 2 months. In the end the side effects outweighed the benefits and I decided to just put up with the pvc's. When I weaned of the Toprol I did have what I think now were some withdrawl symptoms. Mainly jittery feelings, trouble sleeping and loss of appetite. After about three weeks I began to feel ok again.
Avatar n tn I am on 100mg of Toprol XL twice a day and have had an ablation for Ventricular Tachycardia 4 months ago. I am wondering if the large dose of Toprol could be contributing to an increase in PVC activity?
485004 tn?1269203528 I just started this medication for my PVCs. I was on Toprol XL (50mg) and that didn't really help. I started my first does Friday night. My doctor prescribed 200 mg. I have read a lot of good information about this medication, and how it helps. Unfortunately, I haven't noticed much of a difference yet. I thought I would give it another week, and if it still isn't helping, ask my doctor if I should go up to 400mg.
Avatar n tn i have gotten increased PVCs from toprol and atenolol. They work for 2 weeks to a month and then I start getting more PVCs than when I don't take them. My cardiologist said that a few people are affected that way by beta blockers. You just have to keep experimenting and find the right drug or like me decide to live without it and try and not worry about palps. Easier said than done though.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if it is possible for Toprol to cause or aggravate PACs? This would be a paradoxical effect, because Toprol is usually prescribed to prevent irregular beats. I was put on Toprol after an episode of a-fib about a year ago. Up to that point I had had only occasional isolated PACs. After starting Toprol the PACs increased, so the doctor increased the dosage. Every time the dose has increased the PACs have gotten worse after a few days or weeks.
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken both Nordol and Toprol xl. Which one is better for controlling pvcs, high hr, but does not lower blood pressure.
Avatar n tn Hi, everyone- Like so many of you, I have had benign PVCs for years, but lately they grew much worse. I was put on a beta-blocker a month ago (metropolol) and had extreme fatigue and depression, so I'm off it now. After a trip to the doctor and a different type of meds. perscribed (with lots of side effects), I decided to try my hardest to go the natural way to rid my body of them and the anxiety they cause.
Avatar n tn trigemy recorded with moniters and in cardio tests, a thousand or more PAC's daily, and PSVT, for almost two years. I am 39 years old and a nurse. I am taking Toprol XL. I have MVP with mod MR and mild TR. I, too, have searched the web, reference books, and all medical books I could get my hands on.There were many times I doubted the casual, non alarmed, approach of my cardio when I was truly frightened about the way I felt.
Avatar f tn I have taken Toprol XL or some beta blocker since the 1980s. I was originally (at that time) diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and sinus tachycardia. I recently wore a 14 day monitor and today my cardiologist said I have STV. I assume he can tell the difference between STV and sinus tachycardia but to me they feel the same. I already take 50mg Toprol XL twice a day. He wants me to take a half pill extra when I take my regular pill.
Avatar n tn the toprol will slow your heart rate down and make it beat less forcefully, which may eliminate feeling some of the PVCs and PACS. Toprol for me did nothing as far as PVCS go, for me. In fact, it actually made them worse I think. I was switched to Bystolic another beta blocker, that seemed to help more than the toprol. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn 6 months ago, I was diagnosed with Inappropiate Sinus Tachycardia and was given Toprol XL on a as needed basis. Up until a week ago, I have never had to use it. However the feeling of fainting and skipped beats when I lay down to go to sleep were ever more increasing. It only got worse because of my anxiety and my lack of sleep. I called my EP and they said i could do a 30 day event monitor and would call me as soon as they got a monitor back in.
Avatar n tn I will have a good day and be encouraged, only to wake up with the skipping again. My Dr. put me on Toprol XL we started at 12.5 and I am now up to 50mg daily. I have not seen much difference with the med, so I think I am fixing to taper back off of that. For those of you with success on the BB what was the time frame that you saw a difference?? I am also questioning a relation to Birth Control Pills - has anyone experienced this??
Avatar m tn i was curious whats the available meds out there that are for treating pvcs specifically names not just the kinds of meds i know some beta and calcium channel blockers and maybe some other meds so can ya give mea list and if anyone has positive experience with a certain med please post
Avatar n tn I have recently been diagnosed with Frequent PVCs. I was perscribed Toprol XL 25 mg. I also have chronic allergies and recently have had difficulty breathing. I just feel like I am breathing from straws all day. I was perscribed albuterol inhaler, but am affraid to take it with the PVCs. I also have stopped taking Claritin because of the PVCs. Do you have any suggestions about which allergy medications would be best to causes the least PVCs? And is Albuterol ok?
