toprol xl for high blood pressure

Hi, I'm 4 weeks pregnant & had high BP before becomiong pregnant. I was on Toprol XL 25 mg once daily. I went to an OB/GYN today who said my BP was still running high and upped my dose to Toprol 50 mg once daily. When I called my pharmacist, he said he did not think Toprol was the best thing to take for BP during pregnancy to ask for something safer. My questions are: Is it safe to take Toprol during pregnancy? If not, what BP medicine should I ask my OB/GYN to put me on?

My blood pressure runs around 91/60 and my pulse rate at 50 is this to low is this why I might feel sluggish and tired with no energy. I take medicine for tachycardia 50 mg p/day of toprol xl.

They switched me to Carvedilol (Coreg) for a while, before taking me off that as well. But I did not have high blood pressure, which can be dangerous if untreated. I had much less side effects on that Beta Blocker (the Coreg), but it's still a beta blocker. And even so, it might not be the best one for you. I think toprol, of all the betas probably has the most side effects. Keep pushing your docs, there are other beta blockers with less side effects.

Does anyone take medication for high blood pressure and is pregnant? If so, could you please tell me what you take and how successful it is? My dr. just prescribed me an ACE inhibitor that has a big ole warning about death to fetus. I am not pregnant, but my husband and I have been trying. We put our trying on hold for a few months, but would like to resume soon and we aren't super careful with protection now... leave it to God.

Can the toprol XL dose be increased without running my blood pressure down too low. How high can it be raised safely. Also would magnesium supplement and potassium help this condtion? Are there any effects that hormones like cortisol or testosterone to the heart arrhythmias or PVCs.Stress seems to make it worse. IT just seems like there is something that is triggering this. Please help.

In regard to the Toprol XL, my blood pressure had become a bit too high, so my GP put me on Toprol about a year ago. Also, I have what feels like "skipped beats," which turned out to be ectopic heartbeats (found out after doing a holter monitor) and the Toprol really helps a great deal in cutting those down as well. m a 60 year old, who, over 7 years has lost 60 lbs, and with the help of meds reduced my cholesterol, and high blood pressure. You can get off the Toprol - its not easy - weening slow works the best your side effects are pretty normal of toprol - I took toprol xl for about 6.5 years - long term useage ! I hated it - have to say it was the worst beta blocker iv taken in my life ! and I would never take it or anything like it again ! if you get help from Doctor in weening off it , expect to be put on another drug after your off the toprol - for h.b.p. ccb or ?

Three days later, my primary doctor prescribed Toprol. Three years later, I am still taking Toprol. My blood pressure is normal (sometimes high in the evening / but rarely). I would like to stop taking Toprol. Has anyone stopped taking Toprol before? Is there any risks of stopping? How do I tell my doctor that I want to stop taking this medication? The operation was totally successful and I was prescribed 25 mg of Toprol XL to be taken twice daily. My local cardiologist (who has been treating me for the past 20 years) says my heart muscle has shrunk back towards normal size and that I'm "doing so well" I should cut my Toprol XL dosage by 50%. My dr put me on Benicar 20mg and Toprol XL 25mg to lower my blood pressure. I have a fast pulse too (always over 100). Will these meds lower my pulse also?

I've had tacychardia for 23 years, (no meds for it until 2 years ago, got prescribed toprol XL) but in the last year I've been having what I thought was low blood sugar attacks. (so my old doc said) I disagreed so I got a second opinion and new doc is great, did all bloodwork possible and cat scan and MRI looking for tumors on pituitary gland or adrenal gland. but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. (for nothing at all ) Im dead sure its the medications, I did re-check side effect listings for toprol xl - and found out of 10 sites for side effects, 8 listed ringing of the ears for toprol xl. I then e mailed the makers of toprol xl - and they confirmed toprol xl can cause ringing of the ears as a known side effect.
