Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol XL for 3 years now, started out taking 50 mg per day, now down to 25 mg per day, doing pretty good. I take it for High BP & when I was taken off last year my heart rate would get really high & I have been to the ER several times. I am in the early stages of pregnancy about 6 weeks, & have my DR appt. in 10 days. Has anyone every taken Toprol XL during an entire pregnancy. Any advice would be great...
Avatar f tn I take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL per day (any more and my BP drops very low). When I'm on Toprol, I don't have the waking in the night spells but when I'm off it I do (I've tried to get off once last summer and had to start taking it again). When I had the urine test back in October 2004, I had just started Toprol XL and was taking 12.5 mg per day for about a week before the test.
406399 tn?1201887900 I have a @uestion please : After 6years on Toprol xl and Diovan , my Doctor switched me to another medication - verapamill and maxide - iv taken these before and had problems with them both !! fact is the verapamill ccb caused palpatations. and I was put on a beta blocker from that point on.. as to stop the palps and control the b.p. / the Toprol xl and diovan both lowered b.p well and stopped the palps for me.. but iv been living life in pain and suffering for 6years now..
Avatar f tn I would like to get pregnant within the upcoming year and was wondering what the risks are to my heart rate, if I can have a vaginal delivery, and if I would have any limitations during the pregnancy. I have a 6 year old son, and during that pregnancy I had pre-ecclampsia and palpitations, but delievered vaginally with no problems.

Avatar n tn I currently take Norpace 150 bid and Toprol XL 50 at night. They work great for me. I do need to lose about 40 pounds before I would attmpt pregnancy. Question: Would pregnancy increase the likelihood of my septal wall increasing? Is your understanding that any child I bear has a 50-50 chance of getting Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy? Would I be endagering my life and the life of a fetus (bc of the increase stresses on my heart during pregnancy)?
280234 tn?1532989849 Is it safe to take Toprol during pregnancy? If not, what BP medicine should I ask my OB/GYN to put me on? My BP is about 133/90-100 on average. I'm 27 yrs old, & this is my 2nd pregnancy. I DID NOT have toxemia during 1st pregnancy. But developed high BP after the birth. Thanks....
Avatar n tn Toprol XL Toprol XL is medication that belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. Beta blockers lower the heart rate and blood pressure are typically used in people with high blood pressure, problems with the heart beating too fast and in people who have blockages in the heart arteries. This class of drugs appears to safe and efficacious in late pregnancy, however fetal growth retardation has been reported when treatment was started in early or mid pregnancy.
94902 tn?1330483267 Just wondering if anyone is pregnant and taking either Zoloft (sertraline) or Toprol XL (metaporpolol). I currently take both - one for anxiety and the other because I have PVCs and tachycardia (which causes the anxiety). I am now estimated 6 weeks pregnant, and am having to make the decision about wether or not to come off my meds. I am in the process of weighing my pros and cons, but wonder if any other moms have been on any meds while pregnant. I would appreciate any input.
Avatar n tn A couple wks later I got palpitations every 10 mins. all day. Dr. prescribed Toprol XL and said to take if I had a bad day. So far haven't taken them. I don't get bad ones too often, but I had one a couple of weeks ago that felt like my heart was being squeezed, it got really tight, felt like it stopped beating. Only lasted a few seconds but Wanting to have another baby and my cardio said he's not worried at all, that my heart is healthy and fine.
Avatar f tn and weigh about 240 lbs. I also have elevated blood pressure and take 25mg of Toprol XL per day to control it (It still runs around 130/88 on a regaular basis). Besides these two things, I have no other health problems. I have started exercising on a regular basis, take a prenatal vitamin and watch what I eat (no more processed foods, lots of fruits and veggies, etc..) My questions are: 1. Can my husband and I go ahead and start trying for a family? 2.
Avatar n tn Is there any problems associated with taking this medication while pregnant? Also is there anything else that I should be concernced about during my pregnancy and having this condition?
Avatar n tn I am 20 weeks right now and I have taken 12.5 mg of Toprol XL throughout my whole pregnancy. I know it may not be optimal, but my doctor says for me at least the benefits outweigh the risks. I have severe anxiety related to palpitations and heart racing and I have already had to get off my anxiety meds so the danger of a huge anxiety relapse was too much to chance without at least a beta blocker. I take a tiny dose, and my heart still beats fast after meals (I have only gained 5 lb.
Avatar n tn If I hadn't been switched to verapamil, I would have insisted on Toprol XL. I don't know if atenolol is available in extended release, or if you've considered metoprolol or any of the nonselective blockers (nadolol has a >18 hour half life).
Avatar n tn I now take Atenolol 50mg which is also a beta-blocker to control the WPW. Unlike Toprol XL, Atenolol is not recommended during pregnancy. I do know however, that beta-blockers often make you more tired and worn out as does pregnancy, so I'd be careful in that aspect. Also, be aware that although your cardiologist may not tell you, it is often harder to lose weight while taking a BP med/beta-blocker so good luck with your pregnancy weight.
Avatar f tn The only medication I take is Toprol XL, 12.5 mg every other day just to control palps (and likely just for my peace of mind). My symptom is that immediately after I sit down or lie down it feels that my heart is slowing down very slow, sometimes almost to the point where I feel a bit dizzy. When I touch my pulse during these episodes, it feels slow but not extremely so. Sometimes it takes a while (maybe 10 seconds) for my heart to catch up to normal speed.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with SVT 3yrs ago, and decided against the ablation, took Toprol xl for a time but currently take no meds for it. It is much better than when I was first diagnosed though I still have attacks. I am taking fertility treatments and told the re about the svt. He agreed to treat me, but I am wondering if any of you with svt had any trouble with your attacks becoming more frequent or severe during pregnancy? I am concerned that if I become pregnant it will suddenly worsen.
Avatar n tn =/ I'm not a doctor, nor do I know ANYTHING, but I was told that Toprol was the only medicine I could take while I was pregnant. They wouldn't let me take any other beta-blocker because I was told that Toprol is the only one that is "proven safe" during pregnancy.
280234 tn?1532989849 Hi, I'm a 33 year old Caucasian female. I'm 5'4, 145 lbs. I developed high blood pressure in 2002 (when I was 22)during the last months of pregnancy, & after the birth of my daughter. My OB then said I did not have Toxemia. I had a really difficult labor having her, and my BP got really high during the delivery. After the delivery, my BP started running higher than it used to, like about 154/95.
280234 tn?1532989849 I have been on BP medicine ever since having my daughter in `02. I was recently switched from Toprol XL to Labetolol 100 mg 2 x a day by my new OB. Any other moms here have high BP going into this pregnancy? If so, what meds are u taking? Or have any other moms taken Labetolol during a previous pregnancy? If so, how'd it go? Thanks!
Avatar n tn He said a tilt table test would diagnose it but there was really no point as they already had me on a beta blocker (Toprol XL) which is the treatment for POTS. I also have these episodes where my heart feels out of rhythm. It is definitely not skipping but beating rapidly and just oddly. It has a very rapid onset and offset (maybe 10 seconds from start to finish). These episodes have occured maybe 4-5 times this year. During the episodes, I feel weak, breathless and like I might faint.
Avatar n tn high blood pressure and supraventricular tachycardia and polycystic ovarian syndrome during the second trimester of my pregnancy i developed preclampsia,my daughter was delivered 36weeks since then my high blood pressure has gotten worse(family history HTN,diabetes, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, heart disease) I've now developed SVT also i have numbness in feet and my hands, also twitches on face, eyes, hands and unexplained fatigue list of medications: Toprol xl 200mg plavix 75mg norvasc 10mg l
Avatar f tn My pulse was 190 during the episodes while I was on toprol and 160's during the episodes that I wasn't on toprol...Doesn't make much sense, but I don't know why. I want to have more children and I have put that on hold until I have an ablation in Sept. I am really nervous about it, but I am afraid of the medications and their effects on pregnancy. Have you considered an ablation?
541196 tn?1293556536 It is the only approved medication for high blood pressure during pregnancy, I am almost 21 weeks. Before I became pregnant, my regular doctor did not want to put me on it, because it has to be taken twice a day. So I was on Toprol XL then. She said as soon as I got a positive test, to stop taking it and get in to see her immediatly. Personally, I think it had a lot to do with our trouble conceiving. But again, that is just my opinion, and I could be way off base.
Avatar f tn i went off of birth control about two months ago and my heart went bananas. i have been taking 25 mg of toprol xl and it seems to help except for around my period. being on birth control did seem to help me. u could always try it for a few months and see if it helps you. i want to get pregnant again but may need an ablation bc my docs think the pvcs will cause cardiomyothapy during pregnancy. i cant wait to have another child and get back on birth control.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am 38 weeks pregnant right now (having my c-section on Sept. 1 - yay!) and have been on Toprol XL throughout my pregnancy. I take 12.5 mg every other day for heart palpitations. According to the ultrasounds I've gotten, my baby girl is healthy and normal. It seems Toprol hasn't had any bad effects. I hope your ablation is successful - if I were you, I'd likely do the same thing just to be rid of the problem!
Avatar n tn My cardio. put me on Toprol xl 25mg. but I got an increase in palpitations. Now he has given me Lanoxin .125mg. and asprin 81mg. I had read that Lanoxin may not be ok for people with WPW. I don't know if I have that or not. Is Lanoxin safe to take for SVT? All the side effects for it scare me. He also said it would be ok to have another baby. Would Lanoxin be safe during pregnancy or is there one that would be safe? My Cardio.
