Toprol xl dosage info

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl dosage info

Avatar n tn The nurse practitoner spoke with me and said she wasn't too concerned that it was anything immediately dangerous but was going to prescribe me Toprol XL. I am to start it tomorrow a.m. and discontinue it prior to the tests next week. I am also supposed to increase my salt intake and my fluids. Has anyone taken it before?
Avatar f tn I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now. Keep in mind I didn't know what was happening to me, I never thought twice about the switch to generic, it was cheaper and I also had a lot of stress going on in my life at the time. My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007.
343006 tn?1314450071 ahh you have one bad effect I read , dizzyness .. that adds a strike aginst Toprol xl !! I just got off toprol xl after weaning down slow for the past 2months, I have to say I feel wonderfull ! have energy and the one bad side effect I had went away totaly now.. low blood sugar problems. caused with long term useage 3 to 5 yrs .. I hit 5years on this junk ! I taking a Natural medication used for stubborn high blood pressure and its working so far.. fingers crossed it stays working !
Avatar n tn Are those of you with fatigue talking about Toprol or Toprol XL? Toprol is the same as lopressor and metoprolol. The XL type is a long-release version.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Toprol XL at the same dosage and had horrible nightmares and depression. It did not improve my symptoms (PAC's) at all. However, it prevented me from having any more episodes of afib which I had as a result of pregnancy. I took it for about six months, and have been off of it now for six months. In answer to your questions: a) My cardiologist told me that the dose I was taking was "like peeing in the ocean". b) Did nothing to help my pacs.
Avatar f tn The Pharmacist at CVS gave this to me instead of the Toprol-xl my Doctor had prescribed. I think the dosage is too big and I have had more trouble with the pill than without. I took myself off it for a while, to get some sleep and to stop the headaches. The CVS Pharmacist gave it to me AFTER the drug was recalled. It is the big pills that they are talking about.
Avatar n tn I also have been competitively cycling and running since 1975 and now have been diagnosed with paroxymal atrial fibrillation. Resting pulse also 45. I have been on a low dose of Toprol XL-25mg which seems to help somewhat but I do notice that my heart rate is slow to come up while running and I still get some episodes of Afib which last about 24 hours. I tried a 50 mg dose of immediate acting metoprolol, the generic version of Toprol, and found running to be almost impossible.
Avatar n tn This reply is to John, after i had my open heart i was put on Toprol xl, i was having the same kind of symptoms as you, feeling weak and sweaty.
443862 tn?1238003039 I'm taking Toprol XL 50mg, one in the morning. I can tell when I get up that yesterday's pill is done working. It is usually about an hour after I take one that I feel like it is back in my system. I wonder if your light headedness and other symptoms are from the blood pressure meds. I don't seem to get side effects from the Toprol, but when you're sick and taking several drugs, who can tell what is what. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Avatar n tn I was also on Toprol XL, adult aspirin and then put on Tambocor. We would try a certain dosage combinatioin for a few weeks and if things weren't better, we changed the dosage again - more Toprol/less Tambocor. We finally hit the right combination - less Toprol & more Tambocor & I'm happy to say things are under control now. Guess that's why they say doctors are "practicing" medine.
Avatar n tn 6 months ago, I was diagnosed with Inappropiate Sinus Tachycardia and was given Toprol XL on a as needed basis. Up until a week ago, I have never had to use it. However the feeling of fainting and skipped beats when I lay down to go to sleep were ever more increasing. It only got worse because of my anxiety and my lack of sleep. I called my EP and they said i could do a 30 day event monitor and would call me as soon as they got a monitor back in.
Avatar n tn symptoms by making them felt less - I can attest that the right beta blocker can lessen PVC occurance levels as well. Atenolol did not do the job, and neither did Toprol XL. Someone on this board suggested Setral (Acebutolol) with the info that it was more particularly aimed at PVC sufferers (as opposed to just being for high blood pressure). Anyway, that was the magic bullet here. My point is, if you are not happy with your current med, work with your doctor to find the one that works for you.
Avatar n tn Finally saw a cardiologist, and had echo cardiogram, and different monitors, and told my heart is fine, but still have all these symptons. He put me on Toprol, my dosage is now 100mg. a day. This stuff has helped so much. I still have these symptons, but at a much less severity. But I'm like yourself am wondering if I have to be on this for the rest of my life? Or is there a procedure that can cure my arrythmias.
Avatar f tn It probably depends on your situation and the severity of your condition. I do not have a very severe condition, and I find that a little bit of TOPROL XL goes a long way without producing much of a side effect. I take much less than the standard minimum dose however.
Avatar n tn I was put on Procardia for high bp and I started have tachycardia with it. SO my meds was changed to Toprol XL. now my pulse at restin is like 50 and that is not even the full dosage. I am just takin half of it and pulse is still goin low. I saw your article on mentioned the Inderal to my doc and she prescribed it for me. Bein that I have the history of panic attacks and high bp she told me to take it and try it. Well, it does the same as toprol, and slows the heart rate down.
Avatar n tn You may also discuss with your doctor increasing your Toprol dosage. There is not a 'limit' on the number of PVCs that an individual may have although 10,000 beats in one day is quite a few. The most I have seen was nearly 20,000 in a 24 hour period. Some people do complain of chest pain with PVCs but other causes of chest pain such as heart blockages and gastric reflux should also be excluded.

183202 tn?1219857259 ( My GP went ahead and prescribed me Inderal, yet prescribed a higher dosage of 40 mg BID, since I am taking 50 mg daily of the Toprol XL now, and she thought it would be closer to what the dosage of the Toprol was. Is that dosage correct, and should I go ahead and switch over?? Or do you think taking Inderal 20 mg BID would be about equivalent to the 50 MG Toprol XL once daily??
110220 tn?1309310461 I was told that I had had a SVT episode and was released with no meds. I was seen by my GP in which he prescribed Toprol XL 50mg. I took them for a few months, weened myself off and I thought that I was fine. In July of this year, (20 months later), I experienced another SVT episode, my husband drove me to the ER and I again recieved adenosine and within a minute, my heart rate was in normal range. I went to see a cardiologist who put me on Metoprolol 25mg (12.5 twice a day).
343006 tn?1314450071 p has to be the worst **** on the market -besides toprol xl or diovan ! killer drugs ! iv been off the coreg now for over 14 hours - and will soon go back on the verapamil and dieretic pills as I would rather live with swollen ankles and get out of breath here and there.. at least my b.p was down to normal levels. coreg didnt lower my b.p down .. it stayed up 2days of this ! and its pure horse plop ! Isnt there a law somewhere that protects us people from these drug makers..
Avatar n tn The first thing that I was diagnosed with was svt. I started out on 25 mg of Toprol xl, then 50 mg and now I am on 100 mg. My doctor said that my resting heart rate is still higher than he would like and would like to increase my Toprol even more. My resting heart rate is around 88. I feel like this is all related but I am not sure. When I first started taking the larger dosage I feel like my legs were jello and I was very tired.
Avatar n tn I started taking PTU from this March with a dosage of 150mg/day (it seems that the doctor suggested inappropriate dosage. I was supposed to take a larger dosage at the beginning, which I found from the info online later on). T3 and T4 got lower but insignificantly. Two months later, the dosage was increased to 250mg/day. About one and half months later, T3 and T4 decreased but were still above the normal range.
168348 tn?1379360675 Current TSH 0.54 Synthroid 100mcg Alprazolam 0.5mg x 6 a day Toprol XL 50mg Ranitidine 150mg x 2 a day Vitamin D3 1,000IU Multivitamin x 2 a day.
Avatar n tn I guess my years of hard training and borderline bp brought this on. I left the cardio yesterday and she gave me toprol xl (which im scared to start taking) and told me no lifting at all until i get the ct scan (thats if the insurance approves it) if it is indeed 4.0 im not allowed to lift ever again. This is devastating on me for many reasons, one is that lifting has always been a sort of therapy for me as well as an excellent stress outlet.
376186 tn?1219283105 I have had years of putting up w/episodes of sustained PVC's, etc and finally gave in and tried Toprol XL 25mg but did not see a big improvement, if any. After looking at an EKG when I was having these sustained PVC's a couple of wks ago, my cardio said that I needed to be on a calcium channel blocker b/c they responded to the type of PVC's that I had..I wish I had asked if there were different types of PVC's.
Avatar n tn However, if a person is experiencing 15,000 to 20,000 PVCs per day, they are at risk for developing a cardiomyopathy (weakening of the heart muscle). Toprol XL is an excellent medication for controlling PVCs. If this does not help you may consider discussing the option of an ablation with your doctor.
Avatar n tn PS I've suffered from PVC's for several months now. I had an extensive workup that showed no abnormalities. I took toprol xl for a few months but have since weaned off because the side effects were much worse than the pvc's. They are not that big of a deal anymore and I've pretty much learned to ignore them. Hopefully this new thing will be the same.
213044 tn?1236531060 I take my synthroid (levoxyl) first in the morning and then an hour later I take Toprol XL for my heart and Alprazolam for my head. LOL!! I'm going to try cutting my Toprol in half after I talk to my GP. The Endo said I could half my dose if I want to, and I do. My GP perscribed it though, and he knows my body better, so I will wait till I talk to him. Notice I responded in reverse order? I read magazines from the back to the front, too. LOL!! Thanks for the suggestions and support.
Avatar n tn I am a 23 yr old female and was told by my doctor that I have sinus tachycardia and PVCs (I was on an event monitor for a month that picked these up)I was told that it is not life threatening, but my doc recommended Toprol XL (25mg) to keep me more comfortable. I really do not want to take meds every day, esp bc i am so young. If I do not take the beta blocker, will my problems worsen or lead to problems down the line, like cardiomyopathy?
Avatar f tn 00. Saying I feel good when I get up is an exageration, but by 8:00 I often feel BAD, and it doesn't really improve until after supper. It get's a little better later in the morning, but not much. When I get up I am tired and bloated and in pain until I have a few visits to the bathroom. But by 8:00, I feel weak, and taking a shower is work. I feel out of breath and my heart bothers me, but I figure that is because the Toprol has worn off from the day before.
