Toprol xl diuretic

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl diuretic

toprol

Avatar m tn Now, I'm @210 (still overweight) and on low dosages of Lisinopril (10mg), Toprol XL (25mg), and a diuretic (37.5). Over the past 4 weeks, I've experienced some morning sluggishness and ED. It's not a sudden onset; I've been very cold some nights at bedtime, had sporatic ED... and I walk 5 miles a day four or more times a week... so up to now, no one has been surprised about a pulse of 60. Only now my pulse is often @ 50 and occasionally in the mid to upper 40's.
Avatar n tn I have been on Toprol XL 100 for essential hypertencion. (BP was 160/100 and now averages 125/75) for 18 months with good results except for fatigue, some diziness and slow pulse (50) My Dr, switched me to Benicar 20mg last week and now my heart races at 120+ and my anxiety level is through the roof. Should I have weaned slowly off the Toprol or stayed on that dosage despite the side effects? EKG is fine but this feeling in chest and arms scares the daylights out of me.
Avatar n tn I was bounced from one med to another, but all the while no one considered my blood pressure medicine which at the time was Toprol XL 50 mg. It finally took going to a cardiologist for someone to say a person who is battling depression shouldn't be on Toprol because it can lead to depression and anxiety (My normal MD gave me the Toprol, not the cardiologist, so he was sort of a second opinion). Once I was taken off of the Toprol, I finally started to settle down.
Avatar n tn Folks: Here's the deal. I was put on 50mg of toprol xl last week for pvc's pac's and svt and let's just say it has not been a picnic. I'm exhausted and feel out of it. But here's my question. I read that long term beta blocker usage significantly raises your risk of getting type 2 diabetes. What's worse is I have a strong family history of diabetes including my two uncles and my grandfather who died from it. I'm only 40 and wondering if I should switch to a calcium channel blocker.
229198 tn?1208784954 I'm not sure what all her meds are supposed to do, but the ones she takes are Diovan, Toprol XL, Catapres, Zestril, and Procardia.
Avatar n tn My doctor (Family Practice) had put me on a beta blocker (Toprol XL) for primary hypertension, but the blood pressure didn't come down enough and resting heartrate went to 45-55. So, he recently (less than 2 weeks ago) changed it to a calcium channel blocker (Norvasc 10 mg/day). The blood pressure is responding well, but after a week my ankles started swelling every day (no other side effects). It isn't a large amount of swelling but enough to be noticed if you look right at them.
343006 tn?1314450071 I was slowly weened off Toprol xl and Diovan - about 8 months ago - and put on ccb -verapamil and dieretic maxzide iv been on them for about 4 months - and have been having problems, such as ankles swelling. and closeing throat when eatting! as well bloating belly conditions. over the past month iv noticed my face is always red in color. and my left eye has been twitching off and on.. I seem to dehydrate rapid and cant hydrate fast enough - even when I cutt down on the dieretic med.
Avatar m tn Are you taking Toprol Xl. I was taking it and had some respiratory problems and they put me on Bystolic ... the Pulmonary doctor told me that Toprol XL sometimes caused breathing or bronchial problems.. and the Bystolic is more respiratory friendly... they are both Beta Blockers...
Avatar f tn I take Toprol XL 200 mgs. and Altace 20mgs. and have for many years however recently I have experienced an increase in blood pressure. I have lost some weight and continue to diet as well as exercise. My doctor has tried two calcium channel blockers with the results that I become very ill and unable to continue these medications. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn My blood pressure which has been low (110/70 or less) since a ovarian tumor surgery 4/2007, is now back up to 180/90 or higher and at the time of the angina it was 198/103but as soon as Nitro worked, it was down to 135/75. I am on Toprol xl (for high heart rate of 120 or above), venazepril, diuretic, fenofibrate, simvastatin, aspirin, Lantus, glipizide. I have lost 30 lbs since Nov. Lipids are down to normal limits now and I have been walking for my back and sugar.
Avatar f tn He said okay but that I need to keep an eye on my blood pressure. At the same time, there has been a national recall of the TOPROL XL (METOPROLOL ER SUCCINATE) so I was instead put on METOPROLOL TARTRATE. I've been on this new Metoprolol for two days now. The problem I now have is.... I feel a tightness or heavy weight in my chest. Right in the middle of the Sternum. Like somebody is stepping on it and wont get off. Its worse when I'm up and walking. Is it because I'm no longer on the HCT?
Avatar n tn However, I am on lasix becasue beta blocker Toprol XL made me gain weight. SO, I am off of the Beta blocker now and just took my last Lasix with only 5 lbs of water weight down. I have gained 15lbs in a span of 7 weeks since my heart attack. I have went from a size 8 to size 12. Is there anything I can do in addition to my cardic rehab program , weight watchers etc. Herbal supplements anything. Please help us out. If anyone knows anything.
Avatar n tn I am on Toprol XL 25 mg and a diuretic 25 mgs. The information insert on the Toprol XL says to inform the dentist I am on this medicine before any procedure. I did tell my dentist, and asked him why, and he said it is because of the chance of the epinepherine causing palps. I also asked my cardiologist if it is OK for me to receive the epi in the dental office, and he told me that the amount of epi is so small, it should not cause any problems and is OK to use.
Avatar n tn And I am not having panic attacks. I also take BP med Toprol XL but only .25 mg. per day, most of the time half the tablet so only .12.5 mg. I have felt pressure or squeezing in my neck and wonder if their may be blockage in the arteries. I have had EKG's, Echo, and also cat scan to determine seizure or something else which was negative. I do not exercise regularly, history of eating fast foods often, need to lose about 70-80 lbs.

63984 tn?1385441539 ) In the meantime, he started him on Toprol XL to be taken at night. (Does this sound right?) Within this two weeks that he waited for his cath, he reported one 5-second episode of definite chest pain while at work pointing to a calendar that quickly went away. Okay, fast forward to his heart cath last Monday. This was an extremely emotional day for me, my Mom, and my sister. I've been a critical care nurse for a couple of years now.
1270609 tn?1272407146 I am on full regimen CHF meds starting with very low doses...Bp was never over 130/80 to begin with. Was on low dose toprol xl for 9 years for Bp. Now on coreg, lisinopril, dig, lasix, aldactone. Card cath next week.
Avatar n tn At rest or with no added nervous energy I run 100/60 or less. I told the MD I was taking Toprol Xl daily for MVPS and that I was not concerned with a BP that I know will return to baseline as soon as I leave the office. She then proceeded to lecture me(after circling the reading on my chart a few times) the new findings that it can be just as dangerous and should not be taken lightly. I listened and respected her concern since I am a nurse and know informing a patient is part of her practice.
9043033 tn?1401350253 com/major-recall-of-metoprolol-er-tablets/article/347174/ Wockhardt announced a recall of 109,744 bottles of Metoprolol Succinate Extended-Release 50mg Tablets, the generic version of AstraZeneca's Toprol XL. This recall was initiated due to a dissolution test failure observed at the nine month time point. Dissolution tests verify the time taken for the active ingredient to release into the body, and help predict how the drug performs inside the body.
Avatar n tn Also had some stomach problems but the worst side effect was the induced nightmares which would awaken me with palps and elevated BP. Finally convinced cardio to change to Toprol XL 25mg which has thegood effects of Coreg but without the nightmares. Tried Atenolol years ago after 1st CABG and had severe PVCs and was told never to take any BBs again. Just amazing how we react differently to meds. May go to 50mg Toprol to try to lower persistent high BP since Diovan had no effect.
Avatar n tn My Toprol XL is to control an SVT (tachycardia) I get that goes in the 180s, too. I do know that it helps me not feel the PVCs as much (I still feel them, just not as hard), too. As far as PVCs and other arrhythmias, the two are almost always unrelated, unless you have reentry tachycardia, in which case, the SVT can be sparked by a PVC or PAC. Others out there may know differently, but this is how my cardio described it.
Avatar n tn So I have been drinking at least 100 ounces of water a day. It seems to help. Also, ask your doctor about toprol xl for public speaking....it helps to control the heart racing and you can take it before speaking. It is a beta blocker to control heart rate. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar n tn I also suffer from panic attacks (don't know which causes which). My cardiologist decided to put me on toprol-xl (50 mg) to slow my rate down. I was very scared to take it since I had a very bad experience with atenolol (another beta blocker); I felt very depressed, tired, dizzy, weak, mental confussion, etc. But thanks God I do not get any side effects with the toprol (today is my second day with it; I hope it stays that way).
Avatar n tn Coumadin, Toprol XL, aspirin, a diuretic (not Lasix), Rythmol, and Xanax PRN. A few weeks ago I had an episode of tachycardia that was quite mild (105-115 beats per minute). Because I was able to distinguish the difference in this sensation from AF, I went to an emergency room. They kept me there for observation for approximately 2 hours and then discharged me.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking Micardis, Toprol XL (100 mg 2x daily), Imdur (30 mg 2x daily), Digoxin (240 mcg daily), Maxide, Lasix (PRN), Potassium, Amaryl, Glucophage, Tricor, Paxil, and Pravachol. Any information on the possible causes will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I, too have had these for 30+ years. I am currently taking a beta blocker (Toprol XL), and it does seem to help. I don't do caffeine, chocolate or anything that I think may cause them. But, you have to live your life, and trust the drs that this is not something that is going to kill you. I would consider asking your dr. for some anti-anxiety medication - perhaps the kind (like xanax) that you can take on an as needed basis, when the heartbeats get bad.
Avatar m tn Ru-Tuss 29. Amoxycillin 30. Toprol XL 31. Topamax 32. Naproxen 33. Maxalt 34. St. John’s Wort 35. Nasal rinses (2-3 times daily) 36. Avelox 37. Prilosec 38. Prevacid 39. Kapidex 40.
