Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol XL for 3 years now, started out taking 50 mg per day, now down to 25 mg per day, doing pretty good. I take it for High BP & when I was taken off last year my heart rate would get really high & I have been to the ER several times. I am in the early stages of pregnancy about 6 weeks, & have my DR appt. in 10 days. Has anyone every taken Toprol XL during an entire pregnancy. Any advice would be great...
Avatar f tn I take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL per day (any more and my BP drops very low). When I'm on Toprol, I don't have the waking in the night spells but when I'm off it I do (I've tried to get off once last summer and had to start taking it again). When I had the urine test back in October 2004, I had just started Toprol XL and was taking 12.5 mg per day for about a week before the test.
406399 tn?1201887900 as to stop the palps and control the b.p. / the Toprol xl and diovan both lowered b.p well and stopped the palps for me.. but iv been living life in pain and suffering for 6years now.. as the side effects from toprol and diovan are very harsh for me! I cant understand why a Doctor would go backwords and put me back on a medication that caused me problems before? seems strange to me !
Avatar f tn I began having tachycardia at age 12, and began having palpitations during my first pregnancy 7 years ago, and arrythmias almost 4 years ago. I am still taking Toprol XL 50mg daily, and my average heart rate is between 90-120 bpm. I would like to get pregnant within the upcoming year and was wondering what the risks are to my heart rate, if I can have a vaginal delivery, and if I would have any limitations during the pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I currently take Norpace 150 bid and Toprol XL 50 at night. They work great for me. I do need to lose about 40 pounds before I would attmpt pregnancy. Question: Would pregnancy increase the likelihood of my septal wall increasing? Is your understanding that any child I bear has a 50-50 chance of getting Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy? Would I be endagering my life and the life of a fetus (bc of the increase stresses on my heart during pregnancy)?
Avatar n tn Toprol XL Toprol XL is medication that belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. Beta blockers lower the heart rate and blood pressure are typically used in people with high blood pressure, problems with the heart beating too fast and in people who have blockages in the heart arteries. This class of drugs appears to safe and efficacious in late pregnancy, however fetal growth retardation has been reported when treatment was started in early or mid pregnancy.
94902 tn?1330483267 Just wondering if anyone is pregnant and taking either Zoloft (sertraline) or Toprol XL (metaporpolol). I currently take both - one for anxiety and the other because I have PVCs and tachycardia (which causes the anxiety). I am now estimated 6 weeks pregnant, and am having to make the decision about wether or not to come off my meds. I am in the process of weighing my pros and cons, but wonder if any other moms have been on any meds while pregnant. I would appreciate any input.

Avatar f tn and weigh about 240 lbs. I also have elevated blood pressure and take 25mg of Toprol XL per day to control it (It still runs around 130/88 on a regaular basis). Besides these two things, I have no other health problems. I have started exercising on a regular basis, take a prenatal vitamin and watch what I eat (no more processed foods, lots of fruits and veggies, etc..) My questions are: 1. Can my husband and I go ahead and start trying for a family? 2.
Avatar n tn A couple wks later I got palpitations every 10 mins. all day. Dr. prescribed Toprol XL and said to take if I had a bad day. So far haven't taken them. I don't get bad ones too often, but I had one a couple of weeks ago that felt like my heart was being squeezed, it got really tight, felt like it stopped beating. Only lasted a few seconds but Wanting to have another baby and my cardio said he's not worried at all, that my heart is healthy and fine.
Avatar n tn I have a question about arrhythmias and pregnancy. I am 36 years old and developed IST immediately after the birth of my daughter 4 years ago. It was not controlled by medication and my EF dropped from 65 to 40, so I underwent 2 ablations. My heartrate is now usually in the low 50's and I experience some PVCs and occasional episodes of bigeminy. My EF is now back into the normal range, although not as high as it once was. I take 25 mg of Toprol XL daily.
Avatar n tn The Doctor's have said they only know of two other cases like hers and the mothers of the two had lupus during pregnancy .I have been able to search out and read each diagnosis singularly but nothing in a case study concerning all of the three. Can someone tell me anything or point me in a direction to find some information ? Lots of heart problems within this family also . This young girls father had a pacemaker put in in his twenties .

Avatar n tn I am 20 weeks right now and I have taken 12.5 mg of Toprol XL throughout my whole pregnancy. I know it may not be optimal, but my doctor says for me at least the benefits outweigh the risks. I have severe anxiety related to palpitations and heart racing and I have already had to get off my anxiety meds so the danger of a huge anxiety relapse was too much to chance without at least a beta blocker. I take a tiny dose, and my heart still beats fast after meals (I have only gained 5 lb.
280234 tn?1532989849 Hi, I'm 4 weeks pregnant & had high BP before becomiong pregnant. I was on Toprol XL 25 mg once daily. I went to an OB/GYN today who said my BP was still running high and upped my dose to Toprol 50 mg once daily. When I called my pharmacist, he said he did not think Toprol was the best thing to take for BP during pregnancy to ask for something safer. My questions are: Is it safe to take Toprol during pregnancy? If not, what BP medicine should I ask my OB/GYN to put me on?
Avatar n tn Although, with all the searching I have been doing to find something on PVC's and pregnancy I've came across a lot about toprol and pregnancy and many women have taken this drug, and I haven't heard of any side effects. I do have way more episodes than when I'm not pregnant. In fact the past 2 weeks have been real icky with em :/ I'm 34.5 weeks pregnant so I'm hoping they subside soon like they do, because I don't want to have them during labor and delivery.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with SVT 3yrs ago, and decided against the ablation, took Toprol xl for a time but currently take no meds for it. It is much better than when I was first diagnosed though I still have attacks. I am taking fertility treatments and told the re about the svt. He agreed to treat me, but I am wondering if any of you with svt had any trouble with your attacks becoming more frequent or severe during pregnancy? I am concerned that if I become pregnant it will suddenly worsen.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone. I think I might be pregnant and i am on toprol xl ( a beta blocker) for tachycardia. Has anyone took this early in their pregnancy? If so did everything turn out okay? I am worried to death about this and am unsure if I should stop taking it. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Toprol XL at the same dosage and had horrible nightmares and depression. It did not improve my symptoms (PAC's) at all. However, it prevented me from having any more episodes of afib which I had as a result of pregnancy. I took it for about six months, and have been off of it now for six months. In answer to your questions: a) My cardiologist told me that the dose I was taking was "like peeing in the ocean". b) Did nothing to help my pacs.
Avatar f tn The only medication I take is Toprol XL, 12.5 mg every other day just to control palps (and likely just for my peace of mind). My symptom is that immediately after I sit down or lie down it feels that my heart is slowing down very slow, sometimes almost to the point where I feel a bit dizzy. When I touch my pulse during these episodes, it feels slow but not extremely so. Sometimes it takes a while (maybe 10 seconds) for my heart to catch up to normal speed.
547002 tn?1219800976 So i quit taking everything and did great for about 8 weeks. I have prn klonopin and take it every now and then. Well, last week out of the blue, my heart rate shot up to 150! Went to the ER, they did every test possible and nothing, all normal just tachycardia. Well, they put me on paxil and sent me home. Two days later, same thing, went back to the ER, everything still normal, but my doctor put me on toprol xl 25 mg. NOW.. should i take this if everything is ok with my heart except occ.
Avatar f tn but I know that I was on Toprol XL and they of course took me off of that and put me on something that had no known causes of birth defects...I gave birth to a healthy baby boy! Maybe ask you doc about a med that can keep your arrythmia under control but will be safe for pregnancy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone who is a sufferer of some sort of arrythmia as they can and most of the time do, lead your life instead of YOU leading your life...
Avatar n tn Toprol xl 200mg plavix 75mg norvasc 10mg lipitor 10mg aldactone 50mg cardura 2mg aspirin 81mg inderal 10mg prn After numerous test doctors can't explain whats happening to me now they're saying it's psuedohypertension and the tachycardia is due to anxiety can you help me
Avatar n tn Hi and Congrats on the pregnancy!!! I have three children, nearly all grown now, but I wanted to let you know that hormones (pregnancy, PMS, peri-menopause, etc) seem to trigger pvcs/pacs in some people, me included. There are a number of people on the Forum that have noticed an increase in pvcs during pregnancy. Although my pvcs were prevalent during pregnancy, they did not cause any problems with L&D.
Avatar m tn I am a 34 year old male, i am overweight and on Toprol XL, Synthroid for Hypothyroid condition, Zoloft, Benzapril, and take a baby aspirin each day. For the last couple of weeks I have noticed that I have been having these episodes where my heart will take long and hard beats, it almost feels as though my heart is gurgling at the end of each beat.
865758 tn?1285956504 Check with your doctor about BB because I was told with what I was prescribed Toprol XL that it is safe to use during pregnancy. Any medication in category A and B is safe during pregnancy. Avoid meds in Category C and lower. This was info given to me when I was pregnant not to long ago by my OB. Hope that helps!!!
Avatar n tn During my pregnancy my PACs were practically nonexistent. While I had an uncomfortable, high-risk pregnancy (gestational diabetes and I was becoming pre-eclamptic towards the end), my heart situation felt pretty good. Now, three weeks after a C-section, they are back with a vengence!!! I'm talking some 50-100 per day.
