Toprol xl and lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl and lexapro

toprol

Avatar f tn I've taken Toprol XL for several years. It controls my PVCs and PACs very effectively, although it apparently doesn't work for everybody :( I take 50 mgs. at night as that is when they were most troublesome. My doctor also suggested that Toprol would be helpful for my my own version of stage fright...fear of flying! Popping an extra one does seem to control my anxiety, although nothing less than being comatose would really work. Best of luck, hope it works for you.
Avatar n tn I thinks I'd go with the lexapro instead of the toprol xl. It would seem that that would be treating the cause rather than just the symptom. Personally, I have better results with welbutrin.
Avatar f tn I too was on a beta-blocker and Lexapro. I was taking 20 mgs of Lexapro and started having PVCs again, in addition to it lowering my BP to 90/45. I weaned off the Lexapro SLOWLY, and still went thru horrible withdrawals. I am still on the beta-blocker (Nadolol), and no more andi-D's. BP is normal, PVCs are gone. Hope this helps you.

547002 tn?1219800976 So i quit taking everything and did great for about 8 weeks. I have prn klonopin and take it every now and then. Well, last week out of the blue, my heart rate shot up to 150! Went to the ER, they did every test possible and nothing, all normal just tachycardia. Well, they put me on paxil and sent me home. Two days later, same thing, went back to the ER, everything still normal, but my doctor put me on toprol xl 25 mg. NOW.. should i take this if everything is ok with my heart except occ.
Avatar n tn He told me essentially that not to worry that i was unfortunate not because i had them but because i felt them... wow..... well anyway he prescribed 25 ml of Toprol XL to me and things pretty well stayed the same thru 2005 with a few times when they would be a little less than the 6 a minute. Then about Christmas of that year i started noticing (im a hunter) that on my deer stand i was going quite a while and not having any...
1005642 tn?1286910758 5 mg of Toprol XL and I believe my doctor needs to up the dosage or switch my meds, Lexapro 10mg and Xanax as needed. Its really depressing and a downer to realize that simple things such as exercising can cause PVC's. My cardiologist keeps telling me that there is no underlying heart condition, however I have PVC's.
Avatar n tn The day after I posted the question (3-2-06) I went back on Lexapro instead of Zoloft and started taking 1/4 the amount of Toprol XL. I also stopped an anti-inflametory, ETODOLAC. Appearently the ETODOLAC was the major culprit but I was also told that the effects of Toprol DOUBLE when taken with ZOLOFT! All I know is that I feel 90% better than I did 4 days ago! Thanks for your input. Even the doctors can't predict all the possible interactions. OH, THESE GLORIOUS GOLDEN YEARS !
Avatar n tn Of course I told him that was SECONDARY but he told me I needed to compromise with him and try the Lexapro for a month or two and see if it makes any difference, if not, he would try something else and do other testing (CARDIO/PULMONARY STRESS and another ECHO) because I also have been having chest tightness, been SOB and just generally feel weak and odd on the left side of my body since this all started. I don't know what MRUI's are. SSRI would be Lexapro, correct?
Avatar n tn I was having uncontrollable 10's of thousands of pvc's for months everyday. My cardiologist put me on toprol xl and within a couple days they pretty much subsided. It really is a wonder drug, and it helped me sooo much. Ask your doctor.
Avatar n tn I am still taking the anti-arrhythmic drug 100mg every 12 hours and 50mg of Toprol XL in the evening. I have also added calcium and magnesium regularly, and I can tell the supplement DOES have a calming effect....at times my heart will feel agitated and "unruly" and I believe the mg really does help.
Avatar n tn I tried the toprol xl and that is when the 26 beat reared its ugly head so no more for me. Do you have the ecg strip of your 13 beat run? I would love to compare the two.
Avatar f tn I finanally saw a cardiologist, and althought he seemed unconcerned about them, I really have a difficult time getting thru the day feeling happy and quality of life in tact. He wants to change my meds. starting with Toprol XL and if this does not work, Carvedilol 6.25 . Has anyone been on either of these meds and what do you think? I do not have high blood pressure, just pvc'c which I had under control with the Propanolol (Inderal) for several years. don't know if the stress kicked them up?
Avatar n tn Got in to see my cardiologist right away and he put me on Toprol XL 50 mg twice a day. It worked pretty well, but occasionally my bp would spike. Also had hot flashes, lost weight, terrible insomnia - in fact I went to the ER a few months ago because I hadn't slept for 2 straight nights and only a few hours per night several nights prior to that.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with SVT 3yrs ago, and decided against the ablation, took Toprol xl for a time but currently take no meds for it. It is much better than when I was first diagnosed though I still have attacks. I am taking fertility treatments and told the re about the svt. He agreed to treat me, but I am wondering if any of you with svt had any trouble with your attacks becoming more frequent or severe during pregnancy? I am concerned that if I become pregnant it will suddenly worsen.
Avatar n tn I gradually weaned off the alpha blocker and paxil and weaned down from 200mg Toprol to just 37.5 and felt alive again after more than two years. That tiny dose kept things pretty steady until I weaned off last month back at the NIH for follow up studies and drug testing. Once the beta was out of my system, WHAM. I felt the overload of adrenaline with all the accompanying symptoms. I was, of course, monitored closely and immediately ordered back on the Toprol.
Avatar n tn I was weaned off of propranalol three months ago, due to low blood pressure, which was diagnosed as neurocardiogenic syncope from a borderline tilt table test. We tried Toprol XL(50mg/day) and it did not help and discontinued. My tremors have came back, but are manageable. Until 2 weeks ago, I was having at least 7 episodes of pressure in the head and weak, like I was going to pass out.
Avatar n tn I was actually on both Lexapro and Toprol for awhile and noticed no effect. It may be that the Toprol is all you need to set this problem at rest, or at least reduce it a lot, as it both keeps the heart rate lower and has anti-anxiety effect. It does take about a week to build up in the blood. Lastly, is there anyone you can vent to when this stuff i going on? A sibling, maybe? Hang in there. I really do think a lot of this is anxiety.
Avatar n tn 5mg, and lunesta 3 mg since 4/05 (daily). Started taking plavix 75mg, asprin 325, zocor, and toprol xl after the stent 11/06. Just started taking lamactil and lexapro since 4/07. Dr’s seem to be stumped. Still having mild pain and on my left side. Can do push-ups with no problem, when I sit up out of bed I can feel pain on the left side of my chest. Also if I push down on the area (left chest) I can feel mild pain. Cholest was 249 (11/06) today its 150. Any thoughts ?
Avatar n tn I was also feeling very dizzy/ light-headed, especially while driving. Well, after being put on Toprol XL and Florinef, I was feeling better.. up until about 3 months ago. I then was suffering daily with A LOT of light-headness, heart palpitations, sweats, etc. I was also put on Midodrine and Lexapro. After being on Paxil for 10 years for panic disorder, my cardiologist thought Lexapro may help (not to mention it's one of the drugs for NCS).
1520499 tn?1291061965 At some point metoprolol (generic for Toprol XL) became unavailable, was switched to brand name Toprol XL, and have stayed with it since much fewer side effects, namely less "brain fog." My tachycardia seems to be set off by preservatives, incl sulfites/ates, nitrites/ates, flavor enhancers like monosodium glutamate, and red pepper flake. Black pepper in moderation doesn't seem to be a problem for me.
Avatar n tn My new doc gave me lexapro and after taking that and toprol XL I developed more pac/pvc and even started having arrythmia during exercise. Long story short, I am now off Lexapro, have ongoing anxiety (worse than before Lexapro, never really had anxiety before lexapro) and my arrythmia has been diagnosed as Atrial Fib once my heart rate hits 150+. I can't say if Lexapro caused my problems, but one of the side affects of Lexapro is palpitations (which are actually PAC or PVC's.).
Avatar n tn I have been dealing with pvcs and pacs over the last five years and since i gained 20 pounds last two months they seem to be increasing. I take toprol 100mg daily for the last five years should I change meds ? Just yesterday I was driving my semi truck when i felt them comming on but this time my heart felt like it went into afib for about 3 minutes or maybe it could have been several skipped beats with out a break. Last year i had an echo a nuclear stress test and everything came back normal.
Avatar n tn They still put me on Toprol-XL 25mg, After taking Toprol for 3 months, i was feeling fatigued, depressed and thereby i tapered it to 12.5 mg for 3 days and i stopped it. I am a hyper active(personality) and over anxious persion, My resting hear rate is around 80-90bpm.
Avatar n tn I saw the 2nd cardiologist 2 weeks later. She told me I had Mitral Valve Prolapse and that I needed toprol xl and to get off the lexapro. So I did. But...my first 8 days of Lexapro were really hard. I was dizzy, nauseous and lost my appetite as well as some other feelings. I used to feel like my head was shaking back and forth really fast, even when to everyone else it was perfectly still.
Avatar n tn I went into a severe anxiety attacks daily if not hourly. I went to my GP and he gave me Xanax and Toprol for the palpitations. Toprol wasn't bad at first (so I thought), it was masked by the xanax I was taking.
1189366 tn?1265223487 I have been taking 5 mg of Lexapro to try to help me deal with this and also 12.5mg of Toprol XL. When I first started the Toprol, it took the PVC's away almost from the first dose. After about 4 months, however, they returned. I called the Dr and they had me increase to 25mg. Well, for about 1 week, I seemed to have a pvc with every other heart beat. I reduced the Toprol XL and just 7 days ago I stopped it. The PVC's are gone again.
400867 tn?1371756694 Last August, I had my yearly physical and decided with my general practictioner to change my medications and take me off of the Paxil and BuSpar and put me on Lexapro. I weaned off of Paxil from about August to October when I started on the Lexapro. The first month was ok and by November, I was feeling very sick all the time...headaches, feverish, confusion, just sick all the time. I missed days from work and everything.
21064 tn?1309312333 I know that these PVC's can drive you crazy, I've had them for about 25 years off and on and then I finally found the TOPROL XL. Keeping my fingers crossed. I also cut out ALL alcohol, caffeine, sugar, chocolate and almost all stress.:) I also started taking xanax when I'm really having a lot of PVC's and it seems to work for me along with Gatorade for electrolytes and no caffeine.
