Now she put me on Topiramate and while some of the side effects scare me I really want to get rid of these headaches! I am on 1 pill every night for a week, then 1 pill twice a day - I have to work my way up to 2 tablets twice a day for the full effect and she said that it can take up to a month for it to start working effectively. Does anyone else have any luck on this medication? Anyone having the horrible side effects on it (that pretty much mimic MS symptoms?) Anyone losing weight on it?

ok ok , I started topiramate for 2 moths now, the first month the cravings was less, and after a month the doc, change the dosage, now I'm on 50 twice a day, I don't think its working. I haven't lost any weight, does this meds take time?? Should I been seeing result ? am I wasting my time? I really haven't been experiencing the side effects, little bit at first, but nothing to cry about. If anybody have any advice please any is helpful!

the problem with us having BP that if we substitute one med for another is only to alter the side effects to another set of side effects. I can't remember one drug with no side effects. As to the valproate it gives weight gain and sorry but it's known to cause ovarian cyst which can be unwanted for girls. As to Topamax i don't know.

I didn't "jump to conclusions without doing research"... as I noted, I've been taking topamax (topiramate) for a couple of years and I've looked at the side effects more than once. I'm well aware that weight loss is a side effect and many people who use it for other things do lose weight on it; however, it's not "often" actually given, solely as a weight loss aid, due to other possible adverse side effects, such as loss of eye sight as well as others.

I had my first migraine when I was 12 and they became chronic and literally everyday after two car accidents. (Rear end and head on). t take it (for migraines) b/c of all the horrible side effects. Unfortunately, its not supposed to be taken with pregnancy but she probably won't konw what happens until the baby is due. But if it helped allieveate her seizures, maybe it is for the best while pregnant that she has been on it... sorry i can't be of more help.

I have been prescribed Acebutolol for PVC's and I am literally exhausted since beginning this medication but I didn't see that as one of the side effects. Also, my vision is blurred. Is this normal?

The onset of action of topiramate to reach steady state is about 4 days in persons with normal renal function. CNS side effects may be minimized by initial slow titration or small reductions in other medications with sedative effects. These effects usually diminish over time. The mean plasma elimination half-life is 21 hours and it is excreted in 4-5 days. It may cause eye problems like sudden decrease in vision with or without eye pain and redness, secondary angle closure glaucoma etc.

But, now the eye shaking and the increased pressure is scaring me. Is this likely side effects from the Topiramate? I have also noticed that when my eye is shaking that sometimes I also feel a shaking sensation in the back of my head, like almost like my brain is shaking just in the back near the neck. 125mcg levythyroxin( for hypothyroidism), 150 mg Trazedone (to help me sleep), 50 mg topiramate 2x per day (to prevent my almost daily migraines - only have been on this treatment for a month now), (& when needed 40mg relpax for my breakthrough migraines). Have recently begun seeing tracers upon waking up. Triple vision of things and tracers. Iam a life long sufferer of migraines. I have been in and out of hospitals for my migraines.

OK, so I picked up my prescription for Neurontin and noticed in the pt info that one of the potential side effects is DOUBLE VISION. How ironic. So now I'm reluctant to start them until I can discuss this with my neurologist. I have had double vision for 4 and a 1/2 months now, and the last thing I need is anything that my halt my progress or make things worse. For those of you who take/took Neurontin, did this cause double vision for any of you?

I know this question is old but Topiramate only effects estrogen based birth controls ( and it can effect them greatly, I wouldn’t trust your dr who put you on them...they should know better). You need to be on a progesterone based birth control, like the ‘mini-pill’, an iud, the shot, or an implant. These won’t be effected! I’m on trokendi (Topiramate) and am having to find a new form of bc now because it’s messing with my pills!

s and took Imitrex and that worked some for the migraine headaches. Only this last year and a half I started getting double vision then severe vertigo. I would fall over because I can't tell which way is up. I was going to a neurologist that specialized in migraines and she gave me Topiramate which totally took away the vertigo and double vision. I get a very slight bit but not the kind that knocks you over now and only a few seconds.

I have chronic migraine so I have been on topiramate several times but every time I got on I remembered how awful the side effects were and why I decided to go off in the first place, (besides it did absolutely nothing to help my migraines) and I lost A LOT of hair too. it would seriously come out in clumps in the shower, we would have to vacuum every day because there would be so much hair on the carpet. I looked it up online and found many others losing their hair from Topamax.
