I have been getting dizzy spells which the doctor calls vertigo for 7 years now. I have 2 kids and can't even take care of them. I don't even trust playing with them. I can't move right. I try to move left and move right instead. I vomit and cant even keep water down. I get disoriented and it happens around the same time each day but will go away for a few weeks and come back. I don't know what to do.
I'm day 5 into taking Topiramate 25mg at night for migraine prevention. My migraine is a daily pressure headache at the base of my skull. I have Chiari malformation type 1 but neurosurgeon says I don't need surgery, thankfully. He and my neurologist advised i try Topiramate as Amitriptyline didn't suit me (made me suicidal) and my asthma prevents them trying me on beta blockers.
ve been taken a drug called Topiramate, it is a seizure medicine but is said to help headaches as well. Too bad it doesn't. I currently have a headache writing this! With acetazolamide not working, and topiramate worsening my state. You need to track the triggers for these episodic headaches. Trial of prophylactic drugs like propranolol or topiramate, treatment of episodes with triptans etc would be advised. Keep a tab of your headache triggers. Hope this helps. Take care.

I am currently on Keppra and Topiramate and have just been told my latest tests are showing major kidney damage from the topiramate. I have been on these two meds since 2002. I have to admit, reading all this is very scary. NO Other Meds have worked to control my seizures ! PERIOD!! Plus I have severe Migraines and Short term memory is almost gone in a matter of seconds. What is a girl to do?

I take 150 mg of topiramate for cronic cluster headaches every night. Sometimes this causes me to have wake up with pain/tingling in my feet as a side effect. I find relief from this pain by using a "hidow" electronic massager that uses electricity on the bottoms of my feet. I'm not sure if that is relevant but that's what I had just started using when the pain in my feet was so intense.

About a week later an EEG was done and indicated sharp discharges in both hemispheres of my brain. I have been having horrible headaches since at least 10/20 of this year that get to the point of nausea. They are sharp and never completely go away. Just vary in intensity to more bareable at times than others.

the main pain comes from neck and shoots up into my brain, affecting my eyes and giving me headaches, my throat muscles are tense and sore and all the tendons are tight. my back and neck clicks and cracks and creeks all the time, and crunches when i move. i have to always move my head from side to side, to stretch the muscles and stop them from tightening so much because my shoulder muscles get so tight. the pain goes all the way down to my lower back.
I began taking topamax recently to try and help me lose weight. I wanted to see if anyone else had any good/bad experiences with it? I know one usually takes it for headaches, but I don't. Since coming back home, I started to have migraine like headaches along with other post mTBI symptoms (dizziness, cognative problems, etc).
Anyway, my neurologist is treating me currently with 25mg Nortriptyline and 25mg Topamax at night. They have helped (more so the Topamax). The first week and a half I noticed absolutely no side effects of the Topamax. Today I have some slight hand trembling and also felt like my speech wasn't right. (Like I couldn't think of the right word).
I want too if someone can plz answer TOPAMAX TABLETS IS IT THE SAME AS TOPIRAMATE BECAUSE I AM IN EUROPE AND THIS IS THE ONLY BRAND AND UNDER THIS NAME HERE AND WILL IT HELP ME WITH WEIGHT LOSS
I started suffering from cluster headaches after coming off brith control so I got prescribed topiramate and at the beginning, it was fine. But around the second week when I started taking 50 mg, I got a yeast infection, which was treated. Now I have the worst case of vaginal dryness which makes sex painful and causes friction and sometimes bleeding. I don’t have the normal amount of lubrication I have down there, in fact I am completely dry which is very abnormal for me.
I have been advised to take Celebrex or Topamax for headaches. Which treats headaches/migraines better? Which has had more success?
The headache your wife is suffering from may indeed be caused by primary headaches such as migraine headache or cluster headaches, hemicrania continua, and even post traumatic headache. If the medications she is not taking are not helpful, inform your doctor about this for proper management. Further evaluation may need to be done also to help determine the underlying cause. I am a 40 yr old female with a history of migraines. I've always used Topamax as a maintenance rx & Imitrex injections as a rescue rx. My migraines have been under control for over a yr. In the last 3 months, my headaches have returned. I have also noticed that memory (short & long term) & my cognitive skills have been affected. I.E. I can't remember parts of conversations that I only had 5 minutes ago.
You can call the pharmacist who filled your prescription. Often they are better able to answer these types of questions than your doctor because they have access to all the databases available that contain information about drug interactions and so on. They are also much easier to get a hold of than most doctors.
