Avatar f tn Drugs most commonly used to treat essential tremor include beta-blockers (propranolol) and an epilepsy drug called Mysoline (primidone). Topamax (topiramate), another drug used to treat epilepsy and migraine help some people. With the use of medication, people with essential tremor may see improvement in their ability to control their tremor and improvement in activities such as drinking from a cup or using food utensils.
Avatar f tn Recently, my doctor diagnosed me with essential tremor. It's very common in my family on my father's side, almost 50% of that side of the family has it. My grandma has it so bad that she can barely hold things or write anymore, and my dad is getting to that point, as well. I don't know how bad you can consider mine. I also suffer from mild anxiety, and so when I shake sometimes I get a little panicky (if that's even a word).
Avatar m tn Worrying and stress in general will cause essential tremor (and in general any other tremor, whether it be from drinking a cup of coffee too much and that causing a tremor, or a medical condition causing a tremor) to worsen, I know from firsthand (ha ha) experience, I've had essential tremor as long as I can remember.
Avatar f tn In this forum I see that essential tremor is benign and not related to other cognitive difficulties however, I understand that not much research has been done and the little research there is suggests that essential tremor may be related to dementia.
Avatar f tn WHatI need to know is if there are any other tests that can be run to confirm if in fact those spikes or discharges are complex partial seizures. The only physical manifestion I presented with was a tremor in my right arm. I am confused and discouraged with the lack of information I am being given. I've not eaten a real meal in over two weeks, my body is weak, the headaches and nausea are not very uplifting. I am not driving due to those symptoms for my and everyone elses safety.
Avatar f tn I have essential tremor that primarily effects my legs. I also have it in my hands and sometimes it effects my voice. Lately, I have noticed that my trunk has a very fine tremor as well. I find that besides having difficulty standing in one spot for any length of time, sitting is a problem if there is no back on the chair. If there is a back, my tremor subsides. Is this essential tremor, too? I wasn't aware that you could have it in this part of the body.
444922 tn?1205098764 Hello. There is a new test developed by researchers ( Dr Rubio and associates) in Australia, specifically designed to screen for Parkinson's disease. It is a genetic test and screens a number of genes for Parkinson's disease. There is also a good evidence of association between Parkinson's disease and Essential tremors. Essential Tremor is considered to be a risk factor for Parkinson's disease.
Avatar f tn Sometimes previous injury may cause pinched nerve and may be a reason of tremor but this possibility remains low. Therefore, it is quite essential to thoroughly assess the all possibilities here with the help of a doctor. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn At 18 I was referred to a Neurologist and I was told I had Essential Tremor and he put me on meds. They never worked very well and I went off of them about 7 months later. I have tremors all the time and then sometimes it does not seem like I really have them at all and then sometimes I get like an attack of them and it feels so strange, I just am sitting there and they start on really strong. I am just wodering if that is normal for Essential Tremor or could this be something else?
Avatar n tn My neurologist has diagnosed me with Essential Tremor and Cervical Spondylosis (with some osteophytes). When I turn my head to the right it tremors quite noticeably. When my head faces to the front the tremors are not as noticeable. This began about 2 months ago and I am a 49 year old female. Does one have anything to do with the other? Will the tremor get worse? He suggested Botox in the back of the neck to stop the tremors.
Avatar f tn These tremors are contant when doing fine motor skills - Essential Tremor--I have had them since the age of 4. My Dr. was at Childrens Memorial in Chicago but he has retired.
Avatar f tn I just wanna know other than propranolol, are there foods that have beta blockers? I have benign essential tremor and it is most active when I'm speaking in front of group of people (these include hands, voice, and cheeks) but it happens all the time even in a normal day. what shall I do? I can't concentrate on my job and for any discussions we have because of this ET.
Avatar n tn I think if you're asking about an essential tremor it would be more directly involved with the nerves to the spinal cord. I guess you could trace each tooth nerve to its main nerve and then trace that main nerve back to the brain. Then you would have to see what that part of the body that part of the brain also affects. It could be quite lengthy with no guarantee that it would be correct, but I guess you could try.
Avatar f tn In any event, essential tremor is a kind of action tremor, which is what is seen in MS. The tremor occurs when reaching for something or trying to do something. You should see me applying mascara. Takes 2 hands! There are a lot of descriptors for this kind of tremor and the names are confusing to say the least. I think what matters from the diagnostic standpoint is that there is no tremor when the limb in question is at rest. In Parkinsons, by contrast, resting tremors are frequent.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if others who have been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation have also been previously diagnosed with Essential Tremor? I have had Essential Tremor since I was 12 years old, diagnosed in my 30s and was just diagnosed with Chiari Malformation this year at 53 years old. I also have IBS and have been loosely diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I am suspicious that the Chiari Malformation is the cause of all these other issues, as well as being hereditary.
Avatar f tn After a few months the limpness and the stagger in my leg went away and only the tremor remained and I was diagnosed with essential tremor. But it was never characteristic of essential tremor rather it was always an inconsistent tic. The tic has gotten slightly worse over the years (I am now 18) and has more or less moved it has become less evident in my hands and now lies mainly in my torso, lower neck, shoulder and head and barely noticeable in my hands and arms.
Avatar m tn If you have an essential tremor and it is really in intense in your arms can it cause tendinosis?

Avatar m tn Essential tremor (ET) is a slowly progressive neurological disorder whose most recognizable feature is a tremor of the arms that is apparent during voluntary movements such as eating and writing. This type of tremor is often referred to as "kinetic tremor." The tremor may also occur in the head (neck), jaw and voice as well as other body regions, with the general pattern being that the tremor begins in the arms and then spreads to these other regions in selected patients.
Avatar n tn Approximately 50 to 60 percent of patients experience some improvement in functional disability, but total tremor suppression usually is not achieved. The greatest improvement is seen in hand and voice tremors. Inderal doesn't aggravate tremors and so your feeling of increased head shaking cannot be attributed to Inderal. For a person with an essential tremor, the starting dose of Inderal is 40 mg twice a day.
Avatar m tn I am a professional violinist and recently developed an essential tremor in my bow arm which interferes greatly with my playing. My neurologist tried primidone but it has helped only a little. I asked if he could put me on Inderal which I understand can help with essential tremor. However -- the doctor pointed out that I am already on lisinopril (for hypertension) which, he claimed, ALSO is effective in treating essential tremor.
Avatar n tn Eliane would like to know more about Myokymia and Essential Tremor. Do both of these disorders have something do to with the other. She had the Essential Tremor and Myokymia about 24 years, but not an actual diagnosis until about four years ago. Up until about six months ago she was having non stop tremors in the left eye and accompanied with double vision 24 hours a day for a length of two years. The center of the eyeball would travel towards the corner of the eye closest to the nose.
