3144747 tn?1343049136 There are a host of other medications that have shown benefit to patients including primidone, gabapentin/pregabalin, benzodiazepenes, and some anticonvulsant drugs. Topamax is one of these anticonvulsants. Some of the adverse effects associated with topamax include paresthesias (numbness/tingling), somnolence, dizziness, and risk for kidney stones. Weight loss is also a side effect that is commonly seen.
Avatar f tn The EEG report suggested to consider complex partial seizures. I was placed on Topamax to which I had a bad reaction and was taken off after two weeks. I am now on Trileptal for now to see how my body tolerates that. WHatI need to know is if there are any other tests that can be run to confirm if in fact those spikes or discharges are complex partial seizures. The only physical manifestion I presented with was a tremor in my right arm.
214901 tn?1227567555 Okay, so has anyone that has been Rx'd Topamax for headaches, actually gotten crushing headaches about 1-2 hours after taking it? I am trying hard to wait it out and work through my dosage increases but this is just insane! Thanks!
1276940 tn?1564515084 Topamax (off label for mood swings) 200 mgs daily, Zoloft 250 mgs daily, Elavil 50 mgs at bedtime, Klonopin (PRN) & Vistaril (PRN). I have been on this "cocktail" for about 2 years now. As far as my PRN meds are concerned, I only take them when I absolutely need them. I take the Vistaril first and try to save the Klonopin for bedtime. I am also currently being tested for Sjogren's Syndrome.

1276940 tn?1564515084 Hello.....I am a 42 y/o female who has had a tremor in both hands for several years. My tremors are not noticeable unless I have my wrists resting on a counter top or something similar. Then my hand(s) go to shaking. They do not shake while I am doing tedious tasks or are still at my side or in my lap. Just when my wrists are resting. And it happens just about every time! A little background info now......
Avatar m tn ) in my calves, along with benign familial tremor. I tried propanolal for several years, which decreased the severity of both problems. Unfortunately, the respitory side-effects from the medicine forced me to discontinue it. Any suggestions on different medications that I might try? Also any thoughts on someone somewhere specializing in myokymia? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Please google Topamax side effects or Topamax reviews and you will see many people with a lot of the same symptoms as you. Good luck to you and God Bless.
Avatar m tn Well, for dystonic tremor it is benign but needs to be treated with drugs like Neurontin or Topamax etc. But you have some symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency and it is good that the other poster brought it up. The speech problems, stomach problems, tiredness can be due to B12 deficiency. Also it can cause damage to the nervous system, shortness of breath, tingling or burning of extremities , dementia etc. I also again worry about your weight loss.
Avatar n tn Injection of corticosteroids into the epidural space for back pain results in little systemic absorption of the medication into the system, but some absorption can occur, and tremor is a known side effect of corticosteroids. Other potential causes of your tremor worsening may be stress, increased caffiene, or as the result of other medications.
Avatar n tn I'll start from the beginning. I've suffered Insomnia for at least 10 years and have been on either Ambien or Ambien CR ever since. Some nights it works...others not so much. I'll also throw in that I've had a moderate bilateral hand tremor as long as I can remember and no doctor has ever given me a reason for it. OK, moving on. I also developed Migraines about 10 years ago and the solution was to try a parade of instant remedies (Imitrex, Relpax, etd.) of which NONE worked.
Avatar m tn From what it looks like, I think the doctor does reply on this forum. I'm not completely sure, though. You're welcome! :) I saw your anxiety seem to be building and figured I have ET, I can probably help out. Hope your anxiety is subsiding. My meds for ET or the benzodiazepines?
Avatar n tn Todays went to see my doc and he has ordered EEG for me. Funny thing he said that am ALREADY taking TOpamax for my migraines which are not working. The dosage were HIKED just before this happend. So he said this might have been a side effect. My hands shake A LOT. like visibly. Seizure took place 8 days ago and my migraines are terribly regular and bad. Still exhausted. Could it be a part of being epileptic/ ?? My neorology is not taking me as seriously as things are taking place......
Avatar f tn I was wondering if taking 100mg of Tramadol at night along with 60 mg Cymbalta and 50 mg of Topamax could cause Serotonin Syndrome? I have recently had several of the symptoms but I was treated for Post Traumatic Stress. The more I think about it, it sounds like SS.
Avatar f tn have been told multiple answers-anxiety, essential tremor, somatoform. I feel both my wrists w/slight tremor when they’re under my pillow when going to sleep or when arms folded. Top Neuro/MDS said this isn’t disease, don’t have PD/MS, specific positions like under my pillow can be ET-not rest tremor-says most everything to go away-states symptoms are from herniated discs C5/C6, C6/C7-bulging,stenosis-time should heal.Am I being told this so we can wait to actual PD symptoms present?
Avatar n tn I have post herpatic neuropathy. I have taken Tegretol and Gabapentin with good effect, however after a few months I developed terrible migranes. I've also tried Lyrica and Lamotragine with the same side effect. My neurologist has prescribed Topamax with these medications but it doesn't help the headaches. Normally I suffer from the very occasional headache and am a very healthy person. Triptans to do not relieve the migrane caused from the gapapentin.
Avatar m tn I have been put on Topomax, Proponolal, Primidone and Lamactil and reacted very badly to all. I am working with one very good neurologist who seams to think I have an essential tremor but is not sure. All tests MRI, CT and EEG come back normal. My muscles hurt so much on my left side at times that my hand curls up and my left foot turns in. Me regular doctor thought I had dystonia but the Neurologist said no. I only started having these effects after I took the lexapro.
237053 tn?1258828426 When I am holding up a piece of paper or something like that, I will also notice a fine tremor. My tremors are more noticeable at rest. They get worse at night. No one can seem to give me any answers for this either other than it could be part of lyme or EBV.
Avatar f tn It happened at the same time that I had renewed my synthroid so I had a new bottle and I wondered if it could inadvertantly be the wrong dose. Is tremor like this one of the signs something is amiss with my thyroid.
1627868 tn?1333886342 I'm watching my tremor's transform in front of me... a year ago I had tremor's that were only related to my hypoglycemia. Now, I have a left hand/arm tremor that is there at rest or when I'm trying to do a small task. They are subtle but I can feel the hesitation and/or movement now when I'm typing or trying to reach for something. I am not sure of the treatment but this is one of my questions at my next appointment.
Avatar n tn This sounds like essential tremor, which a neurological disorder is causing involuntary shaking of particular body parts, head and hands. These tremors worsen when hands are used rather than when resting. It may affect the voice making it quivering. Usually the cause is unknown, without a known cure. It is different from parkinson’s disease. parkinson’s involves involuntary tremors at rest, muscle stiffness, slowness of movement and is caused by deficiency of dopamine in brain.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from migraines since my late 20's. I am now 49. I have tried any and every migrained med, some work, some don't. My doctor has just suggested topamax. Has anyone taken this? Does it work? I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches.
