Avatar n tn I've been on Topamax for over a year now and it did that to me at first too, the numbness or tingling, mostly in my toes, I started out at 50mg. and now have been on 75mg, for 6 mos. I will say for me, those side effects have gone away and personally the good out ways the bad, you see, I had a mild stroke from the migraine I had, I have hemiplegic migraines and to me it is worth a little discomfort rather than go through that again!
Avatar f tn I was building the topamax up and lowering the lamictal down. Now I am just on the topamax. The side affects seem quite scary to me, severe dizziness and very off balance, I am always tired and have tingling in the hands and feet. I seem loss for words and confused. Will these side affects deteriorate over the a certain amount of time? It is difficult when I have to go to work and live everyday life. Please help.
Avatar n tn Please google Topamax side effects or Topamax reviews and you will see many people with a lot of the same symptoms as you. Good luck to you and God Bless.
214901 tn?1227567555 Okay, so has anyone that has been Rx'd Topamax for headaches, actually gotten crushing headaches about 1-2 hours after taking it? I am trying hard to wait it out and work through my dosage increases but this is just insane! Thanks!
681148 tn?1437661591 well, she would not be able to function at all without the topamax. The topamax gave her her life back. She still has pain and still needs to use strong pain medications for break-through pain but... without the topamax she would be completely disabled and would not be able to walk or use her hands at all. On the topamax she lives a very normal life! So, I think it is a very useful medication for chronic pain.
Avatar f tn I know all the usual suspects and Topamax jokes (dopamax, tingling, word recall, etc) that you read on the brochure or hear about, but I wanted some personal feedback as far as how long the effects last and if they diminish. So far I haven't really had word recall issues and I've had some tingling but read that meant I needed to up my water intake and once I did that, the paresthesia (tingles) went away immediately. What I do feel is TIRED....
Avatar f tn I took Topamax for awhile trying to stop a "non-stop" headache. The side effects were bad enough for me that it was discontinued. The lack of balance and eye pain I had were what my neurologist decided were reasons to discontinue. The headache pain was as bad on Topamax as it was off Topamax, so it just wasn't the drug for me....
1041303 tn?1421387341 It has stopped that side effect for me. Other than the numbing/tingling I have had no other side effects from the topamax, going on 8 years of use.
Avatar n tn Hello! I'm currently on Lamictal but considering changing to Topamax since this drug (topamax) more effectively treats partial seizures and migraines. What is your experience with it?
Avatar m tn hello, anyone on topamax? I've been on it for about five weeks and its been great for my migraines but I've been having a lot of side effects! like tingling in my hand and feet and really bad heart burn every day! also get moody and cry. very bad fatigue too. will any of this go away???
Avatar f tn I have MS and I am on Topamax. As soon as I started Topamax, (before my diagnosis) I constantly had tingling hands and feet. It is an annoying side effect of the medication, but my migraines are so bad that I figure I'll take tingling hands and feet over debilitating head pain. The medication also effects the taste of things for me, especially carbonated drinks. I am addicted to Coca-Cola and it made it taste sort of like metal. It's pretty awful. I also get EXTREMELY thirsty on it.
1781720 tn?1314842836 I'm on 100mg of Topamax twice a day. And I am wondering what kind of long term effects this medications can have on someone? I'm only 19, and I take it for daily migraines. I know Benzodiazepine has a bad stomach side effect, and with Topamax, I was wondering if that would happen with taking this high of a dose.
Avatar f tn Hi there Dr perscribed me Topamax for my migraines and I am a little nervous to try them. I heard you can also lose weight with this. I quit smoking 4 weeks ago and have put on quite a bit of weight, so was wondering if you can share your experiences and side effects to see if it is worth it.
Avatar n tn Gabapentin and Lyrica are used for neuropathic tingling/numbness and pain; Cymbalta is a good one to help headaches plus Imitrex, Relpax, Topamax (migraine meds). I hope this will be of help to you.
Avatar n tn I also was suffering from migraines and trouble sleeping, and was started on Topamax for the control of the headaches and Elavil for to help me sleep. One of the side effects of Topamax is tingling in the extremities, so although my headaches did decrease the tingling sensation increased for a while. Then it abated and I was fine for a couple of months, until I started experiencing the tingling again, this time accompanied by numbness and weakness in my arms and legs.
1544786 tn?1293504543 I have been suffering from migraines since i was around 11 years old. 587787 tn?1218804459 How much magnesium would I need to take? I would much rather try something more natural than Topamax, it seems the Topamax is or can be quite toxic. Thanks Again.
Avatar f tn She is waking up and hard to breathe, her left side of her body is tight and tingling. (Not in a good way), believe me I asked! She takes Topamax for her Chiari, she takes Amitriptaline for IBS, which is also for anti depressant. I also ordered this female libido which is all natural, but contains Maca Root. I'm trying to understand if it's in her head, or is she really having a bad interaction. I was about to call 911 last night cuz I am concerned, but she didn't want me to.
Avatar f tn How long have you been taking Topamax? Did you also experience the finger tingling and numbness on depakope? Do you have high blood pressure? Are you drinking plenty of water and taking daily vitamins? In someone who had a mini stroke it's pretty important to drink water instead of caffeine. It does sound like you have some problems that are making your life uncomfortable, but from an amateur's prospective I would suspect the Topamax before partial seizures.
Avatar n tn I don't know if anybody else is having these type of problems with Topamax. I was put on 50mg 2 weeks ago for migraines and since then I am having some died effects that I see are common tingling in my face hands and feet, memory loss, inability to sleep. But I'm also having some other concerning problems worsening headaches, neck pain and back pain and dizziness and nausea. Are any of these symptoms going to go away or has anyone else experienced these not as common problems?
Avatar f tn I have suffered from migraines since my late 20's. I am now 49. I have tried any and every migrained med, some work, some don't. My doctor has just suggested topamax. Has anyone taken this? Does it work? I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches.
1276940 tn?1564515084 I am a 41 year old woman that has been experiencing INTENSE dizzy spells for the past 2 weeks. I have never come so close to passing out. My last spell was this past Saturday (11/7/15) I don't get a headache or anything and it seems like the spells last forever!!! I have also been having a swallowing problem. This has surfaced in the past couple months. I get choked very easily. Infact I have had to quit taking one of my daily meds because I just can't swallow the pill anymore.
Avatar f tn I am 6 mos post Arnold Chiari decompression surgery and taking 75mg of Topamax daily for headaches. Recently, I am experiencing weakness in my legs as though I have no control over them. I am wondering if anyone else feels this way with Arnold Chiari w/Cervical Syrinx or could it be the side effects of the Topamax. I also have balance and vertigo issues.
