topamax

Avatar f tn Other relevant drugs are naproxen, anaprox, naprelan, ibuprofen, advil, motrin nuprin, pedia care, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs etc. topiramate or topamax is indicated as a preventive medicine in migraine headaches. So let your physician prescribe you any of the above medicines, while you could have one of the over the counter analgesics. Take care.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me topamax today. I am already on amitriptylline 30mgs at bedtime for "migraines". I think my headaches are related to the chiari as dr shelat reproduced the pain when he put pressure on my head in a certain way. My current md said there is interaction between amitriptylline and topamax and also compazine which i take as needed.

U may want to see what may be causing ur HA's...for me I know it is my EDS and instability and TCS.....once u know it may be easier to know how to deal with it...
Avatar m tn I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
Avatar f tn For the last few days I've had a sharp throbbing headaches on the right side of my head. It gets extremely worse when I turn my head to the right or lean forward. I've taken Ibuprofen, tension headache, I've even tried 2 800mg Ibuprofen nothing seems to help. I do have high blood pressure, in which I check often, and is controlled with HCTZ 25mg and a low sodium diet. I'm doing some research to see if I can take care of this problem without going to the doctor.
Avatar f tn I have had daily headaches for well over a couple years. Four to five years ago my doc thought they were migraines and I took Imitrex about once every 2 weeks. Then I started getting a worse headache from the Imitrex, like my entire head was supersensitive, my hair hurt. He sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed occiptal neuralgia. That doc has been giving me botox injections in my neck and prescribed Lyrica. I can't afford the Lyrica -- its $300 a month.
1103688 tn?1257894552 First off I think that increasing the Topamax to 100mg if possible would be a good place to start since you have said that the Topamax has greatly reduced the number of severe headaches you get. The normal dose of Topamax for migraine prevention is 100mg, so taking it at the regular dose might greatly improve your situation.
Avatar f tn I had daily headaches/migraines for months and the last thing we tried was topomax. It caused me to have incredible reactions that resembled a stroke at one point so I quit taking it after I talked with my doctor. I was also taking Prilosec for some nausea. For some reason I had forgotten to take the prilosec for a couple days and hadn't had a headache. Got in the car to start a 6 hr trip and thought I should take it since I would be eating out a lot over the next few days.
Avatar f tn I suffered with headaches for over two years. Eveytime I go to my doctor he tells me I'm depressed and puts me on an anti depression medicine. My complaints are that I am extremely tired, I wake up tired and I wake up with a headache. The headache lasts all day and sometimes gets worse (turns into a migraine). I seen countless doctors. Almost every medicine we have tried does not work and/or I've had reactions to them.
Avatar f tn t do my job any more now when I concentrate I get a bad headache it hurts all the time I am seeing a nuroigist at OHSU she thinks that my pain resistors are screwed up from surgery and meningitis I had Botox injections a month ago and I feel that they are not helping a few days ago we took a vacation I live at 4000 feet we went to the beach we got there I was a little light headed but felt good we stayed for 6 days I had some headaches but I was much better we headed home and at about 2000 feet
Avatar m tn I have been advised to take Celebrex or Topamax for headaches. Which treats headaches/migraines better? Which has had more success?
Avatar f tn Today is my second day of taking topamax for migraine. As soon as i took one i started feeling very strange. I am having very bad nausea, dry mouth, wired taste, headaches and dizziness. Can anyone tell me are these normal symptoms when taking topamax and how long are they going to last? I am only taking 25mg a day right now.
237152 tn?1206651036 I have taken topamax for headaches. I get horrible headaches because of 2 herniated disks and it is commonly prescribed to treat them. vicuser was right. The drug was originally developed for seizures. It may help you but I want to warn you about some of the side effects! One is that it causes weight loss. I knew that at the time and thought "great" but it got out of hand. I am 5 foot 6 and got down to 95 pounds.
1558393 tn?1299070031 It is GREAT for migraines but not for the Chiari headaches. I have very few breakthrough migraines, but I still get the Chiari headaches everyday. I don't see any side effects with the topamax...I really like it!!! As far as the disability question...from what I understand, getting on disability for Chiari is very difficult and can take a long time. I have not tried and I still work every day. I have no choice but to work. It's a struggle but I have to do it.
Avatar n tn I also was suffering from migraines and trouble sleeping, and was started on Topamax for the control of the headaches and Elavil for to help me sleep. One of the side effects of Topamax is tingling in the extremities, so although my headaches did decrease the tingling sensation increased for a while. Then it abated and I was fine for a couple of months, until I started experiencing the tingling again, this time accompanied by numbness and weakness in my arms and legs.
Avatar f tn Within 3 sessions he could already feel a huge difference. For 9 months he had this and for 9 months we could not to a single thing to make it go away....within a few sessions with the chiropractor, his headaches were gone.
Avatar n tn I was just prescribed the drug for frequent migrains and was wondering why and how it causes weight loss? Does it decrease your ap?
1088430 tn?1259159773 (Sorry in advance for length; from desperation)6yr hist. what thought was "chronic sinus headaches" that triggered handul migraines per month.4yrs ago rough patch chronic migraines lead to 4 months worth doc appts, ct scans, mri, neurosurgeon ref, due to what they thought "AVM".Artialgram b/f laser surgery showed "not there".Thankful, but so over all that wasted dead end time, cancelled foll up with reg neur.
Avatar f tn I have been having headaches for the last 2 months .According to the ER doctor they are migraines. I go there get shot and go home it will ease off but end up going back within a week for another shot and I think they think that I am just playing or something. Anyway I have had migraines before but only maybe once or twice a year.
Avatar f tn The pain kept getting worse and worse so I finally saw a nurse practitioner about 2 months ago and she put me on Topamax. I starting taking it and the headaches slowly dulled if anything and then a new pain started at the base of my skull by the middle of my lower neck. I had to recently stop taking the Topamax because I found out I was pregnant.
214901 tn?1227567555 Okay, so has anyone that has been Rx'd Topamax for headaches, actually gotten crushing headaches about 1-2 hours after taking it? I am trying hard to wait it out and work through my dosage increases but this is just insane! Thanks!
Avatar n tn I have been taking topamax for 3 months for migraines. I’ve been getting them everyday for about 2 years (if I don’t have a headache, I have pressure behind my eyes which makes me feel tired). Well, I titrated up to 90 mgs of topamax and since I reached 90 mgs, the past month I’ve been headache free (YAY) until 5 days ago.
Avatar n tn I have been getting daily headaches for about 9 years, I can generally cope with these now as I am used to getting them. I have had an MRI scan about 5 years ago and they didnt find anything wrong. I have changed my diet, given up smoking etc, had my eyes tested, changed my pill and come off of it numerous times, but nothing seems to work to stop them. There are only the odd days where I dont have one, some days are worse than others, and some days I have to stay in bed.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for all the help.
