I have found that with myself, Topamax works well with controlling the seizures, and has much less effect on liver functions, making it a much safer drug for me. I would be intersted to know what 3 meds he is on for seizures, any severity of liver damage so far by hep c, and how old he is. As always, consulting with his neurologist and his GI in conjunction is the safest bet. As far as websites for the two, I have not found any.
I have only been on Topamax for my migraines since November 2010 and by January I had four kidney stones. One in my left kidney and three in my right. Now I have been taken off Topamax and it was so far the best medication for my migraines I was on 100mg of Topamax and went from having a migraine everyday to once a month. I miss Topamax but the pain of my kidney stones was much worse.

Painkillers and sleeping tablets will not cause Cirrhosis of the liver. Other medications like certain anti-fungals can. Certain medications can cause further harm if you already have some form of liver disease.
In Total liver Function Laboratory Blood Test results (Alanine Amino Transferase Serum) conducted for Total Liver Function shows presence of low ALT or low SGPT levels of 14 . Hello everyone. So a little backstory first.
I was diagnosed with Graves disease back in 2013-2014. I was put on the methimazole + beta blocker treatment. I went into remission around 2016, when all my labs were normal. So I stopped the meds.
Then, March of 2018, Graves was back with a vengeance. All the telltale signs were back, the excessive heat and heart palpitations, I went back to the doctor and back on drug treatment. This time, however, the meds doesn't work whatsoever.
I communicate this information to 100s of people and while most of them do nothing about it, many of them reply to me that their thyroid function is fine, only because their (often flawed conventional ) tests indicated so!
The standard tests only check serum levels and NOT function in the cells.
They cannot detect type 2 hypothyroidism (thyroid resistance) which is more prevalent than type 1 hypothyroidism.

It sure helps to know when you are not alone and others have the same side effects. Topamax helps my migraines and the weight loss is a plus too but the memory is suffering when it comes to writing and speech...like spelling...sometimes I know the word to use but can not even think of the letters to look it up so I end up using a different word in it's place...very frustrating. Speaking is another story. Sometimes it just isn't worth it to talk at all.
Hi, I just received my liver function test and am concerned. I am a social drinker who has no more than 2 glasses of wine maybe 4x a week (no hard liquor). My test results were GGT 105; ALT 154: AST 80...What does this indicate?

also i had mononucleosis 1.5 years ago and liver function test result was normal only bilirubin was 23.1 (<18.7 mol/L) 1.35 (<1.1 mg/dl) other AST,ALT,GT AND ALP was normal.
I do not drink alcohol (very rare). Now doctor Advised not to eat fried food. I need advice, when is recommended to repeat liver function test and how many time do i need diet? Do i need another blood tests?
well stopping like that might be very very dangerous.
the first mistake is the use of telbivudine, it is not a first line therapy since genetic barrier is too weak and resistance can arise, if you have resistance or develop it now that youstopped drug all other dugs will respond less and develop resistance soon
your feelings are about myopathy which is a side common to telbivudine but has nothing to do with the liver, it is a nervous system problem.

Since you have a low level of inflammation of the liver (2) it is possible for these levels to be within norm as your disease progresses..
Many persons with extensive liver damage (cirrhosis) can have normal LFTs until the liver is unable to function properly. (decompensated cirrhosis).
I recently was told by my physician that I needed to see a Hepatologist due to the liver function testing coming back high. I have had these test done every month for 5 months and each month they get higher. I had a CT of the liver done and she said it was enlarged and with the high levels on the blood work we needed to see a specialist. I am on medication for High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol. I take tylenol weekly for headaches (highly allergic to aspirin).
