And i have been takeing it for Eight years with no problems. Good luck.

Avatar n tn Consult the physician first, especially if your vision problems began after you started taking Topamax.
Avatar n tn All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?
Avatar n tn Are cognitive problems most common with this drug, i.e. memory and confusion? Do they tend to subside after awhile? Also, have you ever heard of spatial disorientation as a side effect of Lamictal? Thanks in advance!
Avatar f tn My eyes, nose, and everything else is dry to the point of I had to rush to the eye doctor (had extremely dry eye), nose sores that bleed, and now my hair is falling out. The doctor did hormone and thyroid test and just called they are normal. He put me on biotin for a month. Should I stop the topamax or go further with blood work since my family has problems. He said the biotin and a multivitamin should help but I have mood swings, constaption, headaches...just don't know? Any ideas.

705969 tn?1229491814 As for some of the questions, my prescriptions have not changed for years. I stopped taking Topamax nearly a year and a half ago. The balance problems have only gotten worse in the past few months. Nothing happens with my vision, and I'm well aware of everything that's happening. I am suddenly nearly falling down or stopping to regain my balance. The good news is that I can usually catch myself, or stumble my way out of a bad fall. But I have had a few bad falls, once down the stairs.
284078 tn?1282616698 Fortunately, God was on her side because she was smart enough to stop the Topamax and go to the emergency room before she developed an attack of acute narrow angle glaucoma (symptoms severe eye pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, almost complete vision loss.) Her ocular pressure was actually only slightly elevated and with cessation of the Topamax, her pressure returned to normal in a day, while it took over a week for her vison to return to normal.
Avatar f tn I take 100mg Topamax (actually I take the generic Topiramate) once per day. I've been on and off of this for a few years. But started taking the generic last year due to the insurance company making me switch. Anyway, when I switched to the generic, I have since started having a lot of pressure behind my left eye and into my cheek. Also, sometimes behind my right eye, but that's rarely. It's daily behind my left eye. This has been going on for a few months.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I was diagnosed with Blepheritis shortly after taking several meds (amitriptilyne, cyproheptadine and topamax) for my migraine and migraine associated veritgo. I may eventually get off of the two meds except for topamax. I am using baby shampoo in warm water and wiping my eyes and it has lessened the blepheritis. Is there any way to get rid of it permanently even while I am on these drugs and if not will it go away after I get off of the drugs?
Avatar n tn Topamax is used for a lot of things it isn't necessarily labeled for. It's also used for treatment of nerve-related pain. Docs love to give it to patients with spine pain because it's not a narcotic. I know topamax has helped people with pain, but I wasn't one of them. I got every side effect on the fine-print enclosure, including a wooden tongue and numb, nearly paralyzed extremeties. Hadn't even titrated up to a "therapeutic" dose yet.
Avatar f tn I do have a small aneurysm behind my left eye and a pituitary microadenoma of which I am told is not the cause of my headache. Any info would be appreciated.
1597714 tn?1299828089 The mean plasma elimination half-life is 21 hours and it is excreted in 4-5 days. It may cause eye problems like sudden decrease in vision with or without eye pain and redness, secondary angle closure glaucoma etc. this could also cause decreased sweating and increased body temperature. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn every time i have one which is most of the time.. my right eye shrinks down.. and i have bad peripheral vision .. my doctor prescribed topamax.. i am wondering how long it would take too notice the affects???
800958 tn?1237725315 I went back a week later and she did other tests on my eyes which showed that I see different colors in each eye. She asked me about seeing halos and lights and I told her that I did and that it was from the lazer surgery (I thought that the lazer had burnt the irisis of my eyes and that was the reason for seeing the lights). She informed me that that was not the reason I was seeing lights and that it was something to do with my brain. I am scheduled for an MRI tomorrow.
Avatar f tn I am glad you are at least getting the support of a Celebrate Recovery group, but am sorry you are not able to get "formal therapy" right now. It's really great though that you are taking the initiative to go to that group though. That's a big step in itself that you are doing it for yourself you know? Do you have insurance by chance? I know that's a bit of a personal question but insurance does usually help with therapy and such.
Avatar f tn The EEG report suggested to consider complex partial seizures. I was placed on Topamax to which I had a bad reaction and was taken off after two weeks. I am now on Trileptal for now to see how my body tolerates that. WHatI need to know is if there are any other tests that can be run to confirm if in fact those spikes or discharges are complex partial seizures. The only physical manifestion I presented with was a tremor in my right arm.
Avatar f tn My eyes became very dry (had no side effects on topamax the first time) and irritated, I read about glaucoma and was seen by a specialist the next day, he looked and pressure tests Etc and said there was inflammation and dryness, I stopped the topamax and the eye drops got the inflammation down over the next week. However ever since then I've felt the same as I did when this all first started.
1276940 tn?1564515084 I have no pain or discharge in that eye......I have noticed no halos or any problems with my vision before or after the blurry vision starts. I recently got DX'd with bursitis in my R hip and my R heel has been tingling & going numb. This too comes on suddenly and only lasts for a few minutes......It seems to me that something is going on with the R side of my body!!!
1512520 tn?1290258130 Hi, I was on 100mg Topamax for several years and never had sinus problems. How bizzaire....but like Selma said, everyone is different.
Avatar m tn htm Yes, that is the generic name of Topamax, but I would not take it without a good reason. It can cause strange psychological changes and serious eye problems.

Avatar f tn My doctor put me on topamax for migraines. She didn't have samples in the office, so she just gave me a perscription for 100 mg pills and said it wouldn't be a problem to start at that dosage. I've been taking this dosage for 7 days, and think it's too much. Is it too late to go back and start taking 25 mg the 1st week, 50 the 2nd, 75, and then 100 the 4th week (I looked up how it SHOULD be taken on the medical site).
Avatar f tn It sure helps to know when you are not alone and others have the same side effects. Topamax helps my migraines and the weight loss is a plus too but the memory is suffering when it comes to writing and speech...like spelling...sometimes I know the word to use but can not even think of the letters to look it up so I end up using a different word in it's place...very frustrating. Speaking is another story. Sometimes it just isn't worth it to talk at all.
Avatar f tn i was on topamax like you. it did absolute nothing and then i had problems. i nwould just be careful how you go with it. im in limbo land too the mri showed demyelination and the neuro went other way and discharged me. HAve you got a copy of your reports?
