Avatar n tn Is there treament for lingual nerve damage that was bumped during the extraction of a wisdom tooth? The surgeon said the tooth was deeper than he thought and had to finish the extraction but bumped the nerve in doing so. It's been 4 years.
Avatar n tn Three years ago,i had a wisdom tooth extraction amd i have a numb on my lower lip and cheek. It is not getting better so i am afraid that this will be permanent. My dentist (one of the best Greek doctors,well-known in dental-society,who teaches at the university) always says to me that i shall recover but i am tired waiting. Is there something to do?Yesterday i start taking B12 vitamin and doing massage in the area (i have read somewhere that maybe helps).
Avatar m tn i have recently had a wisdom tooth extraction and i am experiencing numbness in the right half of my bottom lip and chin as well pain in my teeth on that side. the oral surgeon wants me to wait a month to monitor the progress. the wisdom tooth was impacted and i have recently found out that increases the chances of numbness. needless to say i am worried about the situation especially knowing that it could possibly permanent. Is surgery to repair the nerve an option? what should i do?
Avatar m tn I have left sided burning tongue and left sided facial pain and ear ringing for the last 3 years , it started after my tooth extraction, have seen many doctors but no gain. This discussion is related to Headache, Burning Pain on Tongue, Side of Faceand Scalp, Fatigue.
Avatar f tn Highly unlikely from the extraction to get loss of sensation to the upper lip. The dry mouth and sensation could be an issue with the salivary gland which is on the cheek near the teeth in question. Or you may have a fungal infection (perhaps a side effect of antibiotics if you are taking them).
Avatar f tn I'm post two years tooth extraction with nerve damage. I've have multiple x rays and no one see the nerve damage. Can they not see it or do they choice not to tell me they see it?
Avatar f tn Sometimes tongue movement problems also can cause pain and most often caused by nerve damage. Other reasons could be mechanical irritation/damage from rough edges of teeth, dental appliances, trauma and burn. I would suggest a careful examination by a dentist or a doctor who will evaluate all mentioned possibilities here. He/She may order blood tests to rule out other medical conditions.
Avatar n tn there is ALWAYS the possibility of nerve damage when having an extraction of the lower molars. it could lead to numbness that goes away after time or never goes away. its rare but they drs have to always let you know about this. discuss this with him and possibly get another opinion.
Avatar m tn If it does start causing problems, it could damage the roots of the teeth in front of them, resulting in damage and possible removal of both the wisdom tooth and the tooth in front of it. It just depends on how the infection occurs and where it spreads. Bone shards can hurt but can also be easily fixed by removing them. They also can fall out on their own if you're patient enough.
Avatar n tn He feels like there is no hope for recovery. Phantom pain possible? Or nerve damage? (extraction was not tramatic) This discussion is related to prolonged pain after tooth extraction.
Avatar f tn You are probably referring to 2nd or 1st molar. Complete removal of whole tooth rarely causes any nerve damage. Seeing an oral surgeon is advised.
Avatar m tn I have felt this for almost 7 months since right after the first tooth extraction. It was between tooth 4and 5 and I thought something was stuck up there initially. After all the dental work that led to the extraction thinking it was the tooth, and it wasn't. I can feel it like it is out in the open now. There are no orofacial specialist in my area . I live in Pittsburgh, Pa. If you know of anyone that specializes in this area I would appreciate a recommendation.
Avatar m tn ll see it took me two years to have my nerve damage confirmed. The reason being that I not only had nerve damage where the tooth was extracted but the top tooth has been effected too. I really sinks how we're treated today, like cash cows. Where the humanity???
Avatar f tn The wisdom teeth might be pushing all of your teeth in due to its growing sideways. This is causing a block and nerve damage. This ight has caused you a feel of sensitivity. Get your wisdom teeth removed.
Avatar n tn Facial nerve palsy is characterized by inability to close eye, loss of sensation on affected part, difficulty in speaking and mask like face on affected side because facial nerve innervates facial muscles and any damage to facial nerve may cause inability make facial expressions like smiling, frowning etc. Second possibility is Trigeminal neuralgia - neural pain of face with possible loss of sensation on the affected part of face but eye is seldom involved.
Avatar m tn I was unable to have my lower wisdom teeth removed 5 years ago because of the risk of oral nerve damage. I was told that I had a 99% chance of having permanent nerve damage so they would only remove the uppers which I had done. I got a second opinion two years ago because I was in a lot of pain from my lower wisdoms pushing and crowding more and that surgeon said it was only about 60% chance and it wouldn't necessarily be permanent nerve damage.
Avatar n tn Please research facial nerve damage. If I am not mistaken, there is a nerve series that runs on the side of the face from approx. the temple to the jaw bone that can become inflamed with dental work/infection, and for reasons unknown. I believe this is seen more often in people with MS. There have been treatments successful in relieving the pain. I cannot recall the name of this pain as the word is a little lengthy. You really should not have to live with pain.
Avatar f tn i had a mandibular wisdom tooth extraction five days back. it was traumatic. it took an hour and a lot of bone cutting. there were two stitches. my face was swollen for four days, and there was a lot of pain. i followed all the post extraction instructions. i am still on anti biotics and anti fungals and anti inflammatories. i have two problems... 1-there is very limited mouth opening. i am eating normal food now, but with much difficulty and pain.
Avatar f tn Hi Dr Kirsch, Thank you for your response. Her doctor is an oral surgeon. She has another appointment with him next week. Can I just ask you one more question - you said the numbness "usually" goes away but it can be permanent in some "rare" cases. What would constitute rare? What damage would be done to be considered "rare"? He has indicated there is some "nerve damage" and there is alot of bruising. I'm hoping the bruising is causing the pain?
Avatar f tn Went to wisdom tooth dentist, he said I should not remove tooth b/c the nerve is too close and I could do damage. Of course if I'm in pain, then they will remove it. The restorative dentist then went ahead with the crown prep, but warned me several times that they wouldn't be able to take out the wisdom tooth. They did take a panoramic xray and I did see the nerve, extremely close to the wisdom tooth. It also appeared to be pushing the molar.
Avatar m tn Can damage( that happened during a tooth extraction ) to the mandibular , caused ( affects ) maxillary nerve damage and thus causes TN in the maxillary nerve??
Avatar f tn It seems to be affecting the tooth in front of the extraction site as well as the extraction site. I am still getting the tingling in my chin and also have some nausea.
Avatar n tn I have had no sleep, and feel like i am going crazy with this pain. Could it be coming from a different tooth? or maybe a nerve got damaged? thank you for any advice.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am desperate for help. I recently had a dental implant on my top right, next to a root canaled tooth which had been done 20 years ago. The dentist told me to have a veneer on this tooth since it was quite yellow. After the implant crown and veneer was put in, I started to feel numbness on my top and bottom lips. I have had this numbness for nearly 3 months now.
