In such case you may need antibiotics and root canal treatment of the affected tooth with the help of a dentist. Over the past couple days I developed an extremely painful abscess. In an attempt to clean my mouth using coconut oil the abscess burst. I believe I didn't swallow any of the liquid leaking out and throughly rinsed my mouth with salt water and then some hydrogen peroxide. The tingling and burning in the left hand may not be related to the tooth abscess. It is more likely to be due to compression of nerves in the spinal cord or due to peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by vitamin deficiency or due to systemic diseases like diabetes. Hence you should consult a Doctor for an evaluation.
Also long standing abscess of the tooth can cause spread of infection to the jaw and neck also; hence it needs to be taken care of. Hope this helps.
I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
m no longer in pain (the cracked tooth is a little loose) but its been going on 3 days of antis and no change has occurred, is that normal? should I go back to the doctor? or is it normal for it to be taking a little while? I am on 3 doses of each a day which I believe is alot to not see any results almost 3 days in?

Any bacterial infection can lead to collection of pus in the tooth can cause tooth abscess. A tooth infection should be treated appropriately to prevent spread of infection. s got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection.
Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.

Periapical abscess results from a chronic localized infection at the tip or apex of the root of a tooth. It usually originates from a bacterial infection which has accumulated in the soft dead pulp of the tooth. It can be caused by tooth decay, broken teeth or any extensive periodontal disease. There is no definite time it takes for this abscess to form. It depends on the severity of the organisms and their virulence.
The gum above the tooth is also perfectly fine. I had an abscess tooth before (oddly the exact same tooth just on the opposite side) about 2 years ago. The constant pressure feeling is the same but the swelling looks slightly different. When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes. The gum tissue above my abscessed tooth was also very sensitive, dark pink, and began to develop a boil. There is no sign of that this time.

I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal?

when i had gone back to the dentist and they put me on stronger antibiotics i do remember they said something about a lingular abscess and madublar extension or perhaps i have those phrases reversed. he said that the infection in my tooth had spread to soft tissue in my cheek. that's why i was put on stornger anitbiotics. he wanted it to clear up before he proceeded.
what would be the concerns with infection of a parotid gland?
