Avatar f tn i use peroxide to brush my teeth because i have sores that come and go on the right side of my mouth to the gums and underneath and along side my tongue on the right side. i had a dentist tell me this was more than likely a vitamin deficiency of some sort but after all this time i tend to think it is possibly an acid surplus. i have been on celebrex for joint pain, effexor for a spastic colon, and the only timing i can relate all of this to is the death of my mother at Christmas 2008.
Avatar f tn The tongue could be red and cracked due to various reasons. It could be due to iron deficiency anemia, pernicious anemia and other B-vitamin deficiencies, aphthous ulcers, oral lichen planus, erythema multiform, pemphigus vulgaris, syphilis, yeast infection; exposure to irritants such as hot foods, or spices, tobacco, alcohol; allergy to toothpaste, mouthwash, breath fresheners, dyes in candy, dentures, food items, coloring agents, or blood pressure medications like ACE inhibitors.
Avatar f tn d take high potency multi-Vit B with breakfast and lunch, plus, perhaps for a month or two, a bit extra of the separate B vitamins whose deficiency symptoms you have, plus a good multi-vitamin-multi mineral combination. When you see and feel improvement you can drop the additional separate B's, but continue with the rest of them. B vits tend to rev most people up with more energy, so I don't take them after 1 or 2 PM. Make a list of your symptoms: appearance, feel, taste.

Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with a vitamin B12 deficiency. What are the possible causes for this? What is the course of treatment? Can taking an OTC B12 suppliment help? I have conflicting advice from physicians. One advises taking B12 vitamin; the other says that if my body is not absorbing B12, taking a vitamin will not help and I will require B12 injections. Is this a common deficiency for women?

Avatar f tn There's only 2 things I know that cause this frequently while on hep c treatment...An oral fungal infection (like thrush) or a folic acid/ B-12 deficiency...Is your tongue bright red or have a whitish coating? Are you anemic? If it's fungal in origin, a simple mouth swish of a mixture of a children's thrush syrup, lidocaine, and Maalox (or just get a prescription of "Magic Mouthwash") and supplying a source of acidophilous (yogurt, capsules, etc) daily to your body...

Avatar m tn Nerve conduction studies should be done. Vitamin B12 deficiency too should be looked into. There are many other causes of nerve disorder causing these paresthesia or abnormal sensations including diabetes, hypothyroidism, chronic involvement of liver or kidney, chronic alcohol use etc. Hypoparathyroidism too should be looked into apart from hypothyroidism. Neck strain, spondylotic changes in cervical vertebrae, bone disease or bad posture should be looked into.
Avatar f tn I recently had blood work done (non-fasting) for vitamin B1 deficiency. My levels came back as 6. Everywhere I have found it documented says that normal levels are from 8-30 in plasma, but my test says normal levels are from 4-10 and I don't think that is correct. Is my B1 low? I've been having persistent tingling for months now. I'm 22, female, healthy weight and balanced diet. I have paresthesia, fatigue, headaches and digestive upset, all with no explanation..
Avatar n tn ve been diagnosed with this disease. Prior to the diagnosis, I had been taking vitamin B12. How can I still have B12 deficiency? What are the possible reasons? Also, if I took B12 the day before the blood was drawn, that wouldn't change the results, would it? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn A smooth red tongue and painful mouth may indicate pellagra, a type of malnutrition caused by a deficiency of niacin (vitamin B3) in the diet. A red tongue may also be inflamed (glossitis)—the tongue is red, painful, and swollen. Whitish patches, similar to those sometimes found inside the cheeks, may accompany fever, dehydration, the second stage of syphilis, thrush, lichen planus, leukoplakia, or mouth breathing.
