Avatar f tn I started the nystatin but to be honest I am not a good medicine taker and therefore did not take it successfully (5x/day). Since it continued I went to my dentist who gave me a oral cancer check with visalite and they found abnormal areas. They sent me to an Oral surgeon and he told me that it doesn't look like anything and that I should use a perioxide mouthwash, which I did, until my tongue turned black and he told me to discontinue.
Avatar m tn I see you also posted a similar question in the cancer community. There is absolutely no possibility of oral cancer from your recent oral sex experience. The risk of that is near zero, and if were to happen, it would be 10-20 years or more after exposure.
Avatar m tn Don't know if your reading this stil but I went to ent he looked at it and said this little thing didnt seem to concerned about it and I explained i was worried about oral cancer he said he didn't think it was cancer cause of size and etc but did a biopsy dang that hurt he didn't freeze it he numbed it and used some huge clipper tong things and pulled it out then saturized it ouch i get results in a week still a little worried but he really didn't think it was cancer which helps
Avatar f tn I am 44 and have schewed tobacco and drank for the better part of 20 yrs. I am well aware of risks of oral cancer and have recently stop using both. Was wondering if there are any other results that could possibly exist versus my focusing on the most probable, oral cancer. Realy scared and worried.
Avatar n tn there on my part of my tongue that sits back where there is no teeth maybe a about a half inch from where the molors end.he told me its not oral cancer and not to worry about it.I can only see it when i stick my tongue way out of my mouth.but im wondering what the heck it could be?he said he doesnt know.it really bothers me he doesnt know what it is and im still worried about even though he said its nothing to worry about after all its in my mouth.anyone know what the heck this could be?
Avatar n tn I think you should go see an oral surgeon they are very in tune to what is a concern as far as oral cancer and such things. They can probably look at an area and tell you what they think. Or they could always do a swab or even a small biopsy and send it off to be tested. What's the harm? Your mouth is probably constantly hurting what would a biopsy hurt? Atleast you would know what is in your mouth and that it isn't going to hurt you more in the long run.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum. Almost certainly "various lumps and bumps" in your mouth are not due to HPV, and certainly they are not cancer. The only oral cancer known to be caused by HPV is of the back of the throat, and is almost never seen in people under 40 years old. Also, HPV of the throat, as well as cancer itself, is entirely painless. There is no chance that any of these symptoms, or your possibly inflamed lymph nodes, are due to HPV or cancer.
Avatar f tn My main concern and question is would geograohic tongue only appear on this one spot on the tongue? The lesions do change in size and shape and they are red in the center with the whitish yellow border. They do seem to grow every day, then disappear only to reappear the very next day on the same spot and location on his tongue. I am a little anxious that this could be something more worrisome like cancer. Is this normal behavior for gt to only pop up in one area of the tongue?
Avatar n tn About 1 month ago I developed a bump with a red top under my tongue. No pain, but didn't go away. Abot 10 days ago,I noticed that I'm getting another next to this one. I have red spots all along the bottom sides of my tongue and the bottom of my lower lip, and under my tongue. I also have what looks like skin colored tiny spots under my tongue. And just this am I found what looks like reddish lumps under the tongue, at the side. I have no pain. But I'm terrifed this is cancer.
Avatar f tn My question is could this all be because of acid reflux or could it be oral cancer or is they bumps normal for that area? I'm going to the doctors again soon to get pills for gerd, I also just got tested for life insurance and my blood and urine test came back clear and they even have my a lower rate. It really does not look like anything I have seen on the Internet for oral cancer but I'm still worried.
Avatar n tn does not sound anyhting all like cancer. sounds like an irritation fibroma--- look it up on the internet and stop worrying. cancer lesions in the mouth tends to be faster growing (weeks or months) and are not predisposed to developing where there was trauma from things like cheek biting. go to the dentist and let him or her look at it.
Avatar f tn If you think it could be oral cancer then you should see a dentist (they are trained to diagnose oral cancer) or maxilofacial surgeon and have a biopsy. MRI will not look inside your mouth! More at the bones and muscle and stuff.

1124204 tn?1292225977 so then an oral surgeon would be the one whos expertise is with oral lesions bumps etc? so with your experience do oral cancer bumps get bigger and smakller through out the day? do they hang around for 3 years without any change in ones health or does it spread rather quickly?
Avatar m tn Yea...I mean, it's only my tongue that's the problem...some days my tongue looks dry...and the lesions seem to be going down..and then few days down the road they come back. The only reason I think the herpes is related to the lesions in my mouth is because I didn't have this problem before I need to go and have another test. Thanks everyone.
Avatar m tn Is the tongue just white all over or in patches? Patches I believe typically indicate some sort of yeast infection (I believe it's called thrush - appears as whitish, velvety lesions in the mouth and on the tongue. Underneath the whitish material, there is red tissue that may bleed easily. The lesions can slowly increase in number and size.) that will require further treatment. If you had Thrush, your doctor probably would have caught it I imagine.
Avatar m tn t need an oral swab to test for HPV. Oral HPV that develops into cancer is very rare... certainly rare enough that you needn't lose sleep (or $4000 over it). Third, even if you WERE diagnosed with genital HPV, your body would clear it in a few months without any permanent repercussions. As stressful as this virus is, I fear you are hurting yourself in the long run with how much you are putting into it. Please try to relax and realize that HPV is a part of being a sexual human being.
Avatar f tn Any answers to the above question please?
Avatar m tn It grew and spread to the other side of the tongue. It is always painless, unless picked at. The lesions present as flattened white wrinkly patches, that can be rubber off with a paper towel exposing a red base underneath, that sometimes bleeds. I am quite certain it is not thrush, as my mother is a pediatric nurse practitioner and assures me it couldn't be this. I have not been on any antibiotics for years and don't have a problem with being sick in general.
Avatar m tn My tongue has a rough white coating all over it with raised red and white bumps in the middle towards the back of the tongue, also, my tongue burns once in a while, I assume what I have is oral thrush, it appears to be only on my tongue nowhere else in my mouth. I have had this for a long time now (at least 2+ years) and I cannot get rid of this problem at all.
Avatar m tn Hmm...I wonder what the STD experts would think of that test? I heard of a few tests that dentists use to detect oral HPV. But from what I heard, the best is a visual check by the dentist or hygienist every six months. My own doctor recommends once per year. Dr. Handsfield recommends once every five years. My own hygienist says she looks for star-shaped lesions. Also note that the mouth gets all sorts of bacteria obviously from all the different food going in.
Avatar n tn A few days ago I noticed severral bumps on my tongue spreading all the way back through my throat. They are slightly elevated and soft. It does not hurt to eat, however, the appearance is awful and I want them to disappear. I went to see the nurse practitioner and she said she's never seen anything like it before and that it might go away on its own. I didnt find this information overlly helpful, and was wondering if anyone had any idea what it could be.
