Common Questions and Answers about Tongue lesions in children treatment

tongue

Avatar m tn Subsequently, I have had two severe outbreaks with sores all in my mouth, tongue, cheeks, and a few lesions in the genital area (first time for this ever). Severe enough that I could not eat for 3 days. Doctor suggested upping dose for valtrex from 1 g to 3 g for 7 days. I had blood panels done the only noticeable thing was a pretty low Vitamin D level (17) and high triglycerides (210). My question is: is this common?

Avatar n tn For more than 20 years, been getting these warts or lesions that come and go in my mouth. Started after an oral encounter ~ 1995. No sexual intercourse, but kissing that likely transmitted something to me since soon after, developed a flesh colored lump with a white top on the underside of my tongue. This lump wasn't too large, but definitely noticeable. I kept rubbing it against my bottom teeth and it eventually broke open and bleed a bit, but eventually went away.
Avatar m tn Your descriptions appear to be consistent with clinical presentation of geographic tongue or benjgn migratory glossitis.
Avatar m tn It grew and spread to the other side of the tongue. It is always painless, unless picked at. The lesions present as flattened white wrinkly patches, that can be rubber off with a paper towel exposing a red base underneath, that sometimes bleeds. I am quite certain it is not thrush, as my mother is a pediatric nurse practitioner and assures me it couldn't be this. I have not been on any antibiotics for years and don't have a problem with being sick in general.
Avatar m tn Hi and sorry your going through this. The cause of geographic tongue is unknown, and there's no way to prevent the condition. The lesions on the tongue result from the activity of certain types of white blood cells that normally induce inflammation at the site of disease or injury. The reason for this immune system error isn't well understood. Some people with geographic tongue have a family history of the disorder. Therefore, genetics may be a contributing factor in some cases.
Avatar n tn It is attached to the base of his tongue in the back of his throat/mouth. My girlfriend says her son has low muscle tone due to some rare disorder. By 2 he wasn't speaking yet so he was evaluated and that's when they discovered this extra piece of skin in the back of his throat on his tongue. What is it? What is the name of the disorder? Why does he have it? Thank you so much for your info. Teiko.
Avatar f tn My main concern and question is would geograohic tongue only appear on this one spot on the tongue? The lesions do change in size and shape and they are red in the center with the whitish yellow border. They do seem to grow every day, then disappear only to reappear the very next day on the same spot and location on his tongue. I am a little anxious that this could be something more worrisome like cancer. Is this normal behavior for gt to only pop up in one area of the tongue?
Avatar n tn I have 15 white matter brain lesions, straightening of the cervical and lumbar spine, atrophy from head to toe, seizures, intolerance to heat and cold, low body temp (97.4), low BP, slow heart rate, OH, dysphagia, loss of balance, visual disturbances, sometimes cannot keep my eyes open, staring, random shortness of breath, hand cramping, change in gait, positional tremor, 'dandruff' on my scalp, nose and legs....I could go on and on.
2118271 tn?1337463104 Most of it scrapes off when I brush or use a tongue scraper, but after scraping my tongue still has a white coating on it, especially in the back of my tongue. I should note that before the C. Diff episode I was on a number of antibiotics from frequently picking up infections from the day care I used to work at. I have tried Nystatin, and I am on the 4th day of a 2 week Diflucan regimen that my gastroenterologist prescribed me. She diagnosed me without even looking at so....
Avatar n tn While I brushed my teeth and gently brushed my tongue I noticed lesions on my tongue when I spit, even with clear water, it has a hint of bright red (blood) in it. The lesions on my tongue, by this third day, are almost 1/2 deep as my tongue is thick. I thought perhaps I wasn't drinking enough water, and dehydration was the cause, but this does not not really appear to be the problem. I have a multitude of allergies, but if this is a result is it a new one.
Avatar f tn I posted last month when my daughter had an ob and I was questioning ways of transmission. She was on acyclovir for 10 days and this ob was much less severe than the initial one. This past week, approximately 2 weeks or so from the start of her last ob, her twin brother was running a fever and said his throat was scratchy. The fever started Tuesday and would go down or away after a dose of ibuprofen. By Friday, he was better and almost back to himself.
Avatar m tn Turns out to be geographic tongue, the recurring lesions are pink with yellowish to white borders and recur in different places on the the tongue. This is a harmless condition, but is very alarming to look at. Also there is no cure for this condition. I think I have been cursed.
Avatar n tn I wanted to get some other opinions before I get stiches in my tongue and not be able to eat solid foods for a week. I noticed another post where the poster had the same exact symptoms, but there was no suggestions as to what it could be. The previous post was over a year ago at http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Skin-Cancer/Three-White-Lesions-on-Side-of-my-Tongue-Picture/show/1027162#post_4774554 . Can anyone help?
Avatar m tn however, my tongue is the only place that has never fully healed. I constantly have 3-6 lesions in my mouth...big enough to the point where it would show if I were to stick out my tongue...I've been meaning to ask the doc if there's anything I should do, but figured I try on here first So are there any specific ways of keeping lesions away? I've heard Advanced Listerine with Tartar Protection helps... Are there like any vitamins I should be taking, or anything like that?
Avatar n tn Over the last 6 months I have had white patches in my cheeks my tongue. THey come and go and move around to different places in my mouth. I had an HIV test outside of the window period and it was negative so it is highly unlikely to be OHL. I have read a lot about uclers, lichen planus, OHL, cheek biting, etc.but I am still scared it is OHL I had A case of significant dry mouth after a round of antibiotics for a sinus infection.
Avatar m tn Then i got a tingling sensation on my hard palate about 4 weeks later, the i have had all sorts of Ibs symptoms, have had treatment for oral thrush,my tongue is a pale white coating and also has a tingling sensation ,i have had all tests done from worry and all were negative ,i have an endoscopy in March ,but basically i am asking if anyone has experienced a constant burning tingling sensation in the mouth on the tongue
Avatar m tn My symptoms were extremely bad when I first discovered it biting that apple, it was like one day I had a normal tongue and the next I woke up with a tongue covered in lesions. I looked for cures everywhere and found very few, Vitamin B-12 helped reduce the size and pain of the spots. Then I found a personal account of someone who had swished with Hydrogen Peroxide daily. Surprisingly that REALLY reduced the lesions, but my dentist got pretty upset.
302488 tn?1337551241 Orally hygiene is super important with any chronic disease, especially hep c. The virus is in the RNA and in every cell in your body....not just the liver. Rinse with warm salt water and keep clean.
Avatar f tn I have written on here before that I have chronic (meaning I’ve had it CONSTANTLY for 10 years) lesions on the inside of my mouth, not on the tongue just in the mucus membranes. They look a lot like thrush but don’t respond to the medication. I also am so dry in my mouth that I’m currently checked for Sjögren’s syndrome. However. Now I’m on antibiotics for strep throat.
Avatar f tn I woke up this morning feeling like there was a 9v battery stuck to the tip of my tongue. It is slowly spreading further back and I cant bump my tongue on my teeth which makes eating n talking pretty much impossible. I really hope this goes away soon. I am due for my tysabri on tues and if I have to call the dr tomorrow she will postpone my treatment and want to see me first. UGH!!!! Ok I'm done venting.
Avatar f tn I had acupuncture today...where I have most of my symptoms in my legs and feet....I had an electric shock sensation on my right leg...dr. Said good sign...it really helped with nerve and anxiety symptoms. I also love to run... But the burning and twitching elevates it...causing more anxiety. I just wish this twitching burning would go away. Anyone else experience this?
Avatar m tn People who have the condition known as geographic tongue are definitely more likely to experience a white tongue. Geographic tongue simply means a tongue that has lots of grooves and fissures in it, and these grooves and fissures make an excellent breeding ground for the anaerobic bacteria that cause bad breath and a white tongue. The way around this problem is simply making sure that your tongue is kept as clean as possible.
Avatar f tn In 2008 MRI scan(I assume) same lesion increased in size to 11x6mm.Any lesions detected in the area of pineal and pituitary glands.Thanks.
