Common Questions and Answers about Tongue exercises tmj

tongue

Avatar f tn s several exercises they can show you to help with jaw muscles. Any stress or anxiety can worsen the symptoms of TMJ. TMJ may be related to MS but I can't say for sure. In any case, if the grinding gets too bad you might have to wear a mouth guard at night. PS: TMJ stands for Temporomandibular joint disorder.
Avatar f tn Dear Dr, I had posted a while back and since then I had a sleep study done. I had taken a low dose valium for the study. The results were that I had no sleep disordered breathing. The problem is that I still feel like some sort of obstruction of airways and my neck is so tight day and night. Most of the time I feel that my jaw is too far back and I can see a huge overbite. How can I rectify this problem without then causing the jaw to come too forward creating other problems.
Avatar f tn I was given some jaw exercises - tongue up and open mouth, improve posture and shoulder stretches. It helps . I also recall reading an article by DrJim Boyd regarding this kind of clenching where the jaw is forward a bit, it places a lot of force on neck muscles. I think he suggests an NTI. From your experiences with patients , why is my jaw clenching forward and up, would the NTI resolve this issue. Or do I have a tongue thrust issue.
Avatar f tn I would like to know if I have tmj. I have headaches jaw pain teeth pain earaches popping if I open my mouth to far and neck pain???
Avatar f tn t know what to do I did tmj exercises but the pain is still there it is come and go. If only I have money I would like to go to TMJ specialist to correct my jaw alignment.
Avatar f tn TMJ can become serious if ignored. Pose your question to the American Speech Hearing and Language Association (ASHA) -- www.asha.org.
Avatar f tn Impacted wisdom tooth can cause TMJ and numbness and tingling of tongue. It could also be related to neck-tongue syndrome. There is upper nuchal (neck) or occipital pain on one side, with or without numbness in these areas. This is accompanied by simultaneous ipsilateral (same side) numbness of the tongue. This numbness is caused by compression of the second cervical root (C2) in the atlantoaxial space. .

481349 tn?1226710487 Or should I see a doctor since the pain is in my ear, jaw, head and a little in my neck? Also, I looked up jaw pain and saw some exercises that can be done to alleviate jaw pain. I did the exercises and the pain in my jaw practically exploded. Also, my jaw feels really fatigued like I have been doing a LOT of chewing when I haven't been really eating any solids because of the pain. Please help.
Avatar m tn I have TMJ with not a lot of pain but more irritation such as a tired and stiff jaw muscles at times, tight neck muscles, some constant sinus congestion problems and my ears feel full with diminished hearing in both ears, though more in my right ear. When I yawn or open my mouth real big it seems to open up my ears and I can hear almost normal like again, but I quickly go back to having diminished hearing within seconds.
Avatar m tn Hi Can someone please tell me if TMJ disorder with the right treatment can go away completely and if the facial changes that arise from TMJ disorder ever go back to normal.. or is TMJ a permanent condition?
Avatar n tn t it show up on x-ray after all this time? Could it be a TMJ problem as I notice when I press in the TMJ area the swelling sensation and ache go away? Motrin also helps (it didn't before the surgery). Thanks for your help!
657020 tn?1238037518 Could this cause my enlarged tongue? (I have had bumps on the sides of my tongue from the tongue pushing against my teeth since August). Or are my ear problems strictly associated with my sinus problems? I suppose I should mention I am a 24 year old female. I haven't been to the dentist in 4 years. When I was 16, I was supposed to have the teeth next to my wisdom teeth pulled out to make room for my wisdom teeth, but I only had one of them pulled.
Avatar m tn Would doing jaw exercises (i.e, stretching, or more chewing, etc.) help with TMJ, or make things worse? Does anyone have a link to some good exercises that they've personally used?
Avatar n tn Yes, I have been told I have TMJ, but like I said, its not a soreness that I feel, its a pulling sensation, from the back of my tongue, very dry under my tongue, on both sides of my cheeks and down my neck. I feel like it follows my lympnodes, from what I know (little) about them, but everyone says they aren't swollen. I am very sensitive in my cheeks, not my teeth, to cold and sour foods all of a sudden.
Avatar f tn I've had TMJ/TMD for a little over a year. I first visited my dentist, who created a night guard for me - which didn't work. Then, I went to a TMJ specialist, who made a different night guard - which also didn't work. Now I'm in physical therapy . The physical therapist believes my TMJ is caused by my scoliosis, so we've been doing exercises for my spine - which of course, doesn't work.
Avatar n tn t have ALL classic TMJ related problems. Before R/C I had no such problems. HELP- without doing TMJ treatment how can I be free of this metal sensation inside my tooth? Am getting sick of it and now with both sides paining cannot eat properly.
Avatar m tn I’ve also had an MRI done on my brain, which came back completely normal. I’m on no medication. In doing some general reading, I seem to have some symptoms of TMJ (jaw joints make sounds, occasional click, light sensitivity, teeth sensitivity, my jaw gets tired quickly when I’m having work done at the dentist, or when singing for more than a minute (no I’m not a singer)). I also read than TMJ can cause blurred vision in extreme cases.
1353681 tn?1387083733 I've had TMJ for many years, never experienced popping sounds in jaw. It's been popping for almost three weeks now, (no pain just sound)but today, it feels like it's sliding over when I eat. Feels tight too. Should I wait a few more days with opening jaw exercises, or see orthodontist?
Avatar f tn I am a 63 year old female and three months ago began having a sore mouth and tongue. Neither my dentist or doctor could find anything wrong but it has not gone away and now I have this tight feeling of pressure in my cheeks, a tired jaw and aching neck. my hands also don't feel quite right and hurt when I press down on them. I really don't know where to turn too and would welcome any insight into what is happening to me. Thank you so much.
Avatar m tn tmjs are double joints, one side dysfunction always affects the other side. Try to find a competent tmj specialist who is familiar with manipulation of tmj as well as tmj orthosis.
Avatar f tn He has suggested hot pack and neck exercises. I aslo take pain medication and wear mouth gaurds. I suggest you see a TMJ specialist because my dentist couldnt give me a strait answer or solution as well. You definatley have tmj and it needs to be treated. If you feel locked on oneside my doc suggest slowly moving your jaw to the opposite side and slowly opening. Also for the clicking you should not open your mouth as wide and eat soft foods.
5025679 tn?1363541501 s swelling up in my throat and I get this thick yellowish coating on the back that gets worse as the day goes on, on the top of my tongue but on the sides. I have a big crack down the middle of my tongue. My mouth feels like cotton and it's sticky. It happens EVERY single afternoon/evening. When I wake up in the morning my tongue has a feeling like it was burned the day before. I do wear a mouth guard at night but I have worn one for many years and never had this problem.
