Avatar f tn Do tongue exercises----------- stick tongue out and pull it in really fast, move tongue side to side, move tongue up to roof of mouth (may be hard for him), trace lips with tongue. Drink thick liquids through a straw such as smoothie, milkshake or applesauce. When he says something wrong, try not to always correct him.
Avatar f tn but starting early is a good idea if you do need to get her into speech therapy or other assistance. My nephew went through this and did go in with a speech specialist weekly for a while, and it really helped.
Avatar f tn Hi there and welcome to med help. You say that she has brain damage and neurological issues---- very sorry to hear this. My oldest child also has a neurological developmental delay he was born with. (I guess--- as it is sometimes hard to say exactly what caused these issues). My son went to an occupational therapist for several years that really helped. It is great news that she understands things! That is fantastic.
Avatar n tn However, I have been suffering from numb tongue for the past two weeks. Half of my tongue on the left hand side is numb and i can feel not much taste. 1. When will this problem go away? 2. What causes the symptom? 3. Anything I can do to make it back to normal as soon as possible?
Avatar m tn Right now, when I was trying to explain how my tongue might affect my speech, I was trying to explain how my tongue keeps my mouth almost-closed, and it took me a solid two minutes to type the word "almost-closed," which I still have no idea if it's a word or not. I feel like I have gaps in my brain where my basic communicative vocabulary used to be stored. So what can I do to improve my speech?
Avatar n tn After reading the comments and doing research, I believe that my doctor may be lying to me to make me and himself feel better for what has happened. As a teacher, the need for clear and quick articulation is essential. Should I face the fact that I probably will not gain feeling back in my tongue? Do most people regain the feeling? Should I seek other routes of therapy such as speech therapy? Neurologist? I am very upset and would love some good advice.
Avatar f tn Tongue or teeth sucking has become a problem to me for the past ten years. I have the feeling it is changing the shape of my face. What can I do?
Avatar m tn If they are a recent thing, then it would be a wise move to seek a professional opinion. I had a triple bypass in 2007 and the pains were incredible for me. Everytime I inhaled, it felt like someone was twisting a sharp knife in my ribs. Other aches and pains seemed to come from everywhere. I seemed to recover quite slowly, it took about 9 months for the pains to start going away and after 12 months I felt nothing at all. Breathing exercises are very important.
Avatar f tn There are different reasons for articulation problems. Sometimes it is just a speech delay and speech therapy can correct this. Or it could be a oral motor problem related to the sensory system. (my son has sensory integration disorder and was diagnosed at 4). How are the other parts of your son's speech? There is receptive and expressive language that are really important as well.

Avatar n tn its more of a high (huh) or (hum) sound. He does this every couple seconds or minutes. This has been going on now for a month, and came on out of no where. He was diagnosed with a speech problem when he was 3 years and has been in Special Ed for the Speech. He has a really hard time concentrating on things he does not want to do and at times a little disruptive. Autism had been ruled out at this school so no services are in place for such a disabilty.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. I am having some issues with my tongue not coordinating correctly with my soft palate when swallowing. I have had a swallow test, neuro exam, ENT exam, speech therapist exam all with normal results. I do have a history of bad GERD and the ENT said I have some throat irritation from it. Has anyone had their GERD affect their tongue? I am scared to death of ALS right now, and am looking for some simple answers. Thanks.
Avatar f tn You can play games to promote the strength of those oral motor muscles---------- turn on music and make silly faces together and then freeze as you stop the music. Do tongue exercises-------- push tongue out and pull it in quickly, move it side to side, run it along the bottom lip. Up and down will come later as up is really hard for kids of your son's age.

Avatar f tn I know someone who has a a speech problem in that they have difficulty pronouncing words maybe an articulation problem but I am not sure. As far as I know he functions normally like he can work a job, drive, communicate normally, has quite a few friends that I know of. Avatar f tn My son is nearly 11 years old. He has ADHD with traits of Autism. He has severe speech delay which therapists believed should have been up to scratch by now. I'm just looking for advice or testimonials from other parents who went through the same thing. Did your little ones speech improve? All advice appreciated.
911669 tn?1294099188 Good morning everyone, I just went and saw a speech pathologist yesterday for my swallowing issues. It was very informative for me. She gave me a number of tongue and swallowing exercises to increase strength at the base of my tongue. She also is suggesting to my neuro a modified barium swallow to see where things stand. I go back to my neuro next month for followup.
Avatar m tn I have had speech and swallowing problems for the last two years. I do have dry mouth occasionly and I cannot contribute it to any medications that I take at this point. I do not have Sjogrens, Lupus or any of those auto-immune diseases according to my Rheumy. I would have to say the swallowing problems came first but now my speech is being effected dry mouth or not. I do this most everyday at some point or another. This started this year, it is my fairly newest symptom.
Avatar n tn poor articulation basically. There are many possible neurologic disorders that can cause dysarthria. However, please note I am not trying to imply with the following that I think your wife has one of these but rather just providing general information.
757137 tn?1347196453 My son is in his forties and is wearing glasses for the first time. He is doing exercises to increase his ability to focus clearly. I don't see how these exercises can help since the lens has become more rigid. But I don't know for sure. Is it possible to reverse presbyopia in this manner?
Avatar f tn I have a lot of muscle issues overall, articulation of speak is often affected, not being able to get my tongue to ponounce a word correctly, tongue tied or tripping over my tongue sounds about right. I readily accept that the muscles that control my tongue are having a lazy day/week but when i choke on my saliva or drink during those lazy times, i've never thought they were connected. I've just put the choking spells down to stupidity, being too tired or not thinking.
Avatar m tn Hm. Well, I've not really heard of a tongue issue with panic attacks. I've heard of that with an allergic reaction (like a peanut allergy or food allergy as the first symptom). But, this is something you get and have tracked so in a way, this is a good thing. You can plan for the attack and start doing your coping exercises, deep breathing , etc. Try not to miss your Zoloft to keep consistent coverage for your anxiety disorder.
Avatar n tn I am a pediatrician. How often do articulation problems occur with the atypical antipsychotics and what is the mechanism causing the problem?
Avatar f tn Thanks for sharing! I would sign right up for that, just for the improvement in fatigue. I think this might be a more durable link to the page: http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2013/02/27/pons_therapy_stimulates_the_tongue_to_treat_m_s_and_traumatic_brain_injury.
6896476 tn?1386858324 hi, what exercises can you recommend for me to lose my fat around my thighs without gaining muscles on it and achieving a thigh gap? my thighs is around 22-24 inches each leg.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, it's a bit too late to lose 35 pounds before June. Any type of exercise is good for you....... you could try walking, yoga, biking, swimming, dance, tennis...... anything is good. You have to watch your diet, as well as exercise. According to your profile, you're only 15, so at that age, your body is not fully developed. You have to be very careful losing weight or you could have trouble later in life.
