I am a long-term, light smoker who recently quit. Yesterday I noticed a very small white spot on the side of my tongue. It looks like pappilae that are somewhat raise from the surface of the tongue. I don't have any swelling of the tongue but it the spot dose occasionally interfere with speech as the area is sensitive to touch and hurts when making contact with my teeth. I applied pressure to the area using my thumb and forefinger and detected no noticeable mass.
It is possible that these nodules are metastases from his base of the tongue cancer. The decision to give or not to give further cancer treatment/s will depend on a lot of things. Consider the age of the patient, risks and benefits of treatment, possible side effects, and end point in making a decision. For now, your father needs the best supportive care he can get.

I started to get a bad pain in my abdominal and lost about 2 stone over a 2 week period, everyone said i looklike a different person. after the 2 weeks of weight loss my weight has maintained and even gained a stone back but the stomach pain still continues mainly on the right hand side and lower back. Also i feel tired and exhausted alot of the time.
That's a good sign, as long as you are not passing undigested food still.
If everything comes back fine and you are still having a problem, ask to be checked for tapeworms.
You can get tapeworms and other nasties from eating undercooked meat. BBQs are the worst for this, because the meat will be burned on the outside and still raw in the middle.
I wish I could overload my gut and lose weight! :)

Long story so please be patient. :( My left tonsil has been swollen or bigger than my other tonsil for 8 months now. Some symptoms that have come with it are red dots on my tongue, a congested nose for on my left nostril, and some small bumps inside my mouth in front of my gums( not very visible though) The swollen tonsil itself does not hurt nor has it grown at all. I went to a ENT doctor months ago and took a biopsy and came back for some kind of bacterial infection.
I have cut out most coffee, sodas (although I usually drink diet) and alcohol. I usually have at least one drink per day. The weight loss is what is scaring me so badly. I don't know if it could be the dietary changes with the stress or if I am truly sick with something like cancer. I so desperately am afraid of dying and leaving my kids to grow up without a mom. They are my life. Does anyone have any similar experience?

My cousin, Erv, who died from MS in 2008, also lost his appetite, and he was never on any MS treatment, because when he was diagnosed there was no treatment for PPMS. He lost all of his weight. Like me, he was skin and bones.

What Are the Symptoms of Oral Cancer?
I was diagnosed with an advanced case of gum disease and I need the following question answer. I have experienced serious weight loss (25-30lbs) since the beginning of the year after the diagnosis. I want to know if it is remotely possible that my teeth/gum condition has contributed to this? I currently need extractions done and have. I'm scared to death that I might have cancer.(Bone, blood, etc) PLEASE ADVISE..
If you have cut down on fat and carbohydrates then this can explain the weight loss. There are many causes like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either you do not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc.
The possibility of cancer with unexplained weight loss is always there. However if there is a weight loss and thyroid and diabetes status is fine and the weight loss due to metformin has been attained, then this should be looked into. Also if you have not noticed a further weight loss it may not be there. Keep a record and see. Hope this helps. Take care!
Unintentional weight loss is a red flag which warrants further workup and evaluation to rule out underlying chronic infection, inflammation, and/or cancer. Other worrisome symptoms include fever and/or night sweats.
