Common Questions and Answers about Tongue cancer base

tongue

Avatar f tn It is possible that these nodules are metastases from his base of the tongue cancer. The decision to give or not to give further cancer treatment/s will depend on a lot of things. Consider the age of the patient, risks and benefits of treatment, possible side effects, and end point in making a decision. For now, your father needs the best supportive care he can get. Take care.
Avatar m tn 3 weeks ago i found this lump at the base of my tongue. It has a foreign sensation and i think it is swelling. I am very worried that it might be something serious. I went to my GP today and he thinks it is normal and not to worry. And he prescribed some steroid cream to put it on. The link is the picture of the "lump". Should i go to see an ENT or a specialist?Should i put the steroid cream?
Avatar f tn In doing more research, those cyst do not typically appear at the front of her tongue. I am worried about this because my father has cancer in the base of his tongue cussed by HPV. Does anybody have any insight as to what this can be? I never noticed it until I got sick and it causes pain every time I stick my tongue out or try to eat.

Avatar n tn Within this month I have smoked a lot under pressure, my sleeping pattern was changed completely, irregular eating habit and more of spicy junk food, I noticed my tongue getting white, later it went away, now I have a deep cut like wound at the base of tongue, after examining i found a small whitish pus bulge around the wound, now it is paining, can feel the cut, since last month I have been ignoring oral hygiene. This wound has really scared me.
Avatar f tn The base of tongue has a heterogeneous asymmetrical nodular lymphoid enhancement with what appears to be asymmetric lymphoid hyperplasia of the right base of tongue. -- Furthermore, there is an associated heterogeneously enhanced asymmetrical nodular deformity to the right anterolateral pharyngeal-lingual junction.
1415711 tn?1286281354 I think I am just needing some reassurance that I'm okay. I have posted about some of this before, so forgive me if you are already familiar with some of this. A few months ago I started getting panic attacks because I thought I had throat cancer. It got real bad and I ended up with Globus Hystericus because of the anxiety over it. The Globus got so bad that I felt like it was affecting my speech. No one else seemed to notice.

Avatar f tn My husband, age 53, was diagnosed with cancer at the base of the tongue 3 years ago. He underwent 7 weeks of radiation therapy, weekly chemo (Taxol), and amofostine injections. Always fairly "air headed", I have noticed a distinct increase in his forgetfulness. There also seems to be subtle personality changes. Are there studies that indicate this type of treatment might trigger early onset dementia?
Avatar m tn I also noticed recently that the base of my tongue hurts when I strain my tongue or push it hard. What could this be?
Avatar n tn Sorry, it is not epiglottis, my sister complained about the same thing a while ago and I saw a mini-tongue attached at the back of her throat. It is attached to the base of her tongue and it looks exactly like a tongue. I know what should be there and what shouldn't..this creepy thing is a unique thing. It looks like a secondary tongue. I am so shocked, what if it keeps growing and prevents her from swallowing food or breathing...I really need to get help on this.
Avatar f tn I'm no expert but oral cancer from HPV, when it strikes (and it is very rare), strikes the base of the tongue and tonsils, not the inside of your lips. There are weird sores that happen regularly in the mouth and most are harmless. You have to understand that since you eat food, a lot of different chemical reactions occur and combined with the saliva, a cauldron of whatever goes on. So sometimes your biochemistry reacts negatively and then you get some weird sore.
Avatar m tn an upper neck midline lump is my thyroid, undescended. There were also 2 small islands near my hyoid bone and at the base of my tongue (findings of CT scan). THere is no thyroid tissue at the normal site lower down. Does anyone know whether that anomaly is more prone to functional disorders (like the hypothyroidism that I have been diagnosed with 1/2 year ago) ? And also my Endo thinks I do NOT have Hashi's because my anti-thyroid antibodies are -ve.
Avatar m tn Some Cervical adenopathy is present and appears to be fairly symmetric side to side, there is also soft tissue Fullness at the region of the base of the tongue and Valleculae, this may also relate to lymphoid hyperplasia, althought it is difficult to exclude a mass in this region, Correlation with direct visulization is recomanded.
Avatar f tn Wow, I'm glad you are in remission. I assume they did a biopsy of the tumor and it was hpv 16 positive. Did you have any idea you had HPV 16 before tour diagnosis? What stage anf symptoms did you have? Most head and neck cancer from HPV occurs in the tonsils or base of tongue area, but it's all connected (nose, mouth, throat) and hpv seems to sometimes manifest in areas where there was seemingly no contact.
Avatar n tn Thank you, doctor. I know this probably sounds far-fetched, but supposing I did have back of throat/base of tongue cancer- if I'd had this for nearly 9 months, could I expect to have experienced some more noticeable symptoms by now? How long does HPV cancer generally take to progress/spread? Could it potentially spread from the throat area to the hard palate region? These will be my last questions and I am truly grateful for your time.
Avatar n tn I can only feel it when I move my tongue, but when I press the base of the tongue it does not hurt at all.
Avatar f tn The back base of my tongue looks very white. I also notice what looks like a yellowish white zit looking thing near the tonsils. The tonsils themselves look very bumpy, discolored, and infected. It looks like thwy are eother growing larger or there is growth forming on them which in return worries me. I hope this isnt cancer related. This has been going on for a while now and idk what it is. Any advice and knowledge that can help me would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am 35 so do not think it is likely to be stomache cancer but am wondering if it could be an ulcer as ulcers have appeared on my tongue and i have heard they can be connected?
Avatar f tn The question has been posed to me regarding the safety measures that a spouse should take if her partner has been diagnosed and is currently in treatment via chemo.and RT for SCC of the tongue base. Apparentally the biopsy results came back "screaming" the HPV virus and I would like to advise this person effectively. Should she recieve the HPV injections? Should she have her husband wear protection when they engage in sexual activities? What are her chances of getting this.
Avatar f tn I was asked whether or not a spouse of an infected spouse who is undergoing treatment for SCC of the tongue base whose biopsies showed strong evidence of the HPV virus should be innoculated against the virus and what precautions other than annual pap smears should she take? Both are in their mid-late 50's. As an RN I would like to advise my friend appropriately as she indicates that no one seems to have the answers for her.
Avatar m tn I now fear that i infected myself upon removal by pulling fluids from an exposed base and across sensitive areas of my penis head.I have developed two yellow lessons which disappeared after a three day lymph node swelling in the groin area at 8 weeks-not to mention several flue symptoms experienced at 2 -6weeks.To date i have a rough white patch on my tongue which started off as thrush.Going by google it is a sign of hiv or cancer of the mouth.
Avatar f tn Ok, I made dumb decisions in the past regarding oral sex (my post history is high anxiety). Anyways, oral cancer has always been a concern, but now I'm experiencing odd symptoms. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this. It feels like something is in the back of my throat on the right side when I swallow spit. Pain in the right ear, right jaw and in the back of right eye. No pain when eating. I googled (yep!) and it seems like glossopharyngeal neuralgia.
Avatar f tn Hi, Cancers that involve the throat, base of the tongue, tonsil, or pharynx usually present with a sore throat that does not go away, cough, difficulty swallowing, weight loss, ear pain, blood-tinge sputum or a lump in the back of the mouth, throat or neck. Are there other symptoms present? You have an increased risk of developing throat cancer if you smoke tobacco and drink alcohol, chew betel quid, or being infected with human papillomavirus (HPV).
