Tobradex for ear infection

Common Questions and Answers about Tobradex for ear infection

tobradex

Avatar n tn Eye drops are often used/prescribed for the ear. However, the reverse is NOT true due to the higher acidity of ear preparations. Anyone who uses an ear drop in their eyes is in for a nasty sting. Since this is common, how do you know if you've been given the right medicine? Look and ask. Look at the directions. Are they for the right part if the body? Look at the bottle. It may have a picture of the eye or the ear to prevent confusion. Finally, ask the pharmacist.
Avatar n tn I am an adult and used Tobradex for an eye infection. I had adverse reactions to it and it made me sick. Ask you doctor about side effects because an infant is so small.
Avatar n tn For two months now, I've been being treated for an eye infection (both eyes). It was initially thought to be allergies, but the Patanol did not help. Opthamologist then prescribed tobradex, which worked until I came off it. We then moved to longer tobradex usage that tapered over two weeks. Came back again once I came off. Then moved to oral antibiotic for one week and zylet - no results. Now oral antibiotic for two weeks - no results.
Avatar m tn that came and went on my eyelid where eye liner is applied, painful, scratchy eyes), he prescribed generic Tobradex drops which I used QID x 7D. After using the drops and coming in for a follow-up visit the following week, my vision had drastically gotten worse (the first Wednesday I went in was the line below "20/20", and a few days ago on Wednesday it was 2 lines above "20/20").
Avatar f tn The tobradex is completely out of your system after 6 days. But your symptoms are very disturbing. I would return for another exam or seek a second opinion with another ophthalmologist.
Avatar n tn I had an eye infection(eye redness) and my doctor pescribed me Tobradex for 5 days. The eye redness is gone now but I'm having problem now on my right eye Problems are blurred vision ,eye pain upon eye movement and a sensitivity to light. I searched on Google and found in many articles that the eye blurriness is one of the side effects of using Tobradex. My question is there anyone had the same problem of blurry vision? what precautions to take ? Is your eye is now ok?
Avatar n tn I was told that the eye itself looked very good...no infection/abrasions noted. I was put on Tobradex drops for pain management. I have not noticed any improvement with my eye since using the drops. I'm wanting to know if I should be seen by an opthamologist. Does an opthamologist treat problems associated with the eyelids/muscles when the eye appears to be healthy?
Avatar f tn My ophthalmologist diagnosed me with viral eye infection and prescribed me TOBRADEX. I used TOBRADEX 3 times a day for the first two days, then 1 time a day for another 3 or 4 days, and then stopped. Week of 3/31/14: My right eye became red and swollen. I went to see a new ophthalmologist and was told that I just had to wait for my body to fight the virus. No medicine was prescribed.
Avatar f tn There must have been something else wrong such as inflammation or infection---the Tobradex would in most cases cover both problems. However, the steroid can also elevate your eye pressure. Dr. O.
Avatar n tn My 93 yr. old mom was given Tobradex for an eye infection and has not been the same since. She had no med. hist. other than moderate dementia. After the 1st dose of tobradex, she became difficult to arrouse and because of this, slightly dehydrated. She also had immediate increased difficulty in swallowing. Approx. 3 weeks after dc of ointment, she was in the hospital due to build up of upper resp. fluid.
Avatar n tn My opth has diagnosed me with blepharitis, I use sterilid w/ compresses and take flaxseed oil, and I also use preservative free eyedrops for moisture. However nothing has worked to my satisfaction besides tobradex which I've used for about a year and half- my eyelid inflammation is pretty severe even with the other treatments, however w/ tobradex my symptoms are almost nonexistent.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm being treated for "bacterial Keratitis" on the left eye. I've had the infection for about two weeks. I waited a long time to see a doctor because I don't have insurance and I thought it was pinkey and would heal on it's own. I was wrong. I finally went at cost of $140. I was diagnosed and given vigamox (4 x day) and Tobradex. The doctor insisted I come back the next day to check my pupil after dilated. So, I paid another $140 for that exam.
Avatar m tn 2 drops a day for 2 days after the procedure. Is it ok to use Tobradex, once a month, for 3 days at a time? Any thoughts on what could be causing my reaction? Thank you!
Avatar m tn if someone has a sore on the corner of their mouth, and they spit a little while talking, and it lands in your eye, face, or mouth, could u get an infection that way? what can u do afterwards to prevent it? should i use certain eye drops or take anti-virals? it was a restaurant server so do i need to be concerned about the food or straws too? i have a low immune system.
Avatar m tn By Wednesday it was worse so I went to opthamologist who disgnosed Chalazion and prescribed warm/hot compresses several tmes a day and TOBRADEX eye drops 4 x a day + TOBRADEX ointment at night. It is now Saturday, six days later, with eye worse. Does this seem like good advice? Is it usual that a Chalazion will get worse after initial appearance and after treatment has started I am away from home for work which makes me less secure about medical care.
Avatar m tn So he said to do warm compresses, continue the Blephagel but already use Tobradex Drops (w/ steroid) for a week. I also complained that my eyes seem to be bad upon waking up, better during the day, then bad again in the evening. He asked if i read often and I told him that i work at least 5-9 hours a day in front of a computer since my job is in the I.T. Industry. He prescribed me Artificial Tears (Systane Ultra) to reduce my Dry Eyes.
Avatar n tn I had eye surgery a month ago on 7/24/09. My doctor(opthamologist) pescibed tobradex to be used 4X daily. I put these eye drops in as directd. I have been using them now for a month. How long do I have to use this medicine? I am also using a tobradex ointment at bedtime. Can you plesae let me know? Frank.
Avatar n tn I went to a pharmacy, the guy there gave me tobradex eye drops, i used it for 2 days only, my symptoms immediately disappeared in the second day, however i discontinued using the antibiotic course thinking that it was cleared forever. Now i am having every 2 or 3 weeks an episode of bacterial conjunctivitis, that lasts for 3 to 4 days than disappear, the reason for its reappearance is probably because i constantly rub my eyes.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have lower lid problem since January 2009. Both lower lids become puffy, a little bit itchy, red, wrinkled and visibly dry. I went to ophthalmologist and was prescribed Tobradex (antibiotic/corticosteroid). This medication helped after I used it for a couple of weeks. I stopped using it, and everything was fine for a while, my lower eyelids were back to normal, without that awful wrinkles and puffiness and redness. But in about 10-14 days the problem started again.
Avatar n tn Neither Maxitrol or tobradex are good choice for allergic conjunctivitis. Both often irritate the eye and have harseh preservatives in them. You would best use a good artificial tear: Systane, Blink, Refresh, Soothe and something for allergies like Patanol or Pataday. If your allergy is bad enough to require a steroid then lotemax, or pred mild would be better choices.
Avatar m tn For an external eye infection tobradex is not a good first drop because it contains a steroid (dexamethasone) and that has too many side effects. Also some people develop allergy to other component tobramycin. I can't tell you what to do because I've not seen your eyes but as a generalization we would stop the drops. Your problem might be migraine with aura. Allergies do not cause migraines.
Avatar f tn I have been noticeing small clear bubbles forming on the inside of my lowere eyelid . I have several of them , i had some tobradex drops and used them but nothing is makeing them go away , has anyone had this problem ???
Avatar n tn He put me on flax seed oil, allegra, restasis, sterilid and qtips, moisturizing eyedrops and tobradex. At one point he did tell me to slow down on the tobradex but I couldn't handle having such bloodshot eyes so he's allowed me to continue usage for the past year and a half while monitoring my IOP levels. I decided to try to wean myself off of tobradex again, but despite my bloodshot eyes he said that he didn't think I was experiencing rebound symptoms from the steroids.
Avatar m tn It is not improving and he rubs it all of the time. I am a physician and was wondering if I should prescribe a steroid like tobradex or maxitrol for it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar m tn About 1 month ago I used tobradex drops for 10 days. Since then, my eyes have been tearing a lot and it always seems like I am 'crying'. I saw a opthamologist recently who said I have dry eye syndrome and suggested systane ultra. How can I have dry eye syndrome when my eyes are tearing so much? Could the tobradex have reduced inflammation on my tear ducts, thereby causing increase in tearing? Also my eyes are red all the time and looks like I have been smoking pot or something.
