Common Questions and Answers about Tips for increasing breast milk supply

milk

Avatar f tn This allows maximum hind milk. Also, it is normal for one breast to produce more than another. For me, it was my left breast. This didn't change the way I fed my dd though. And yes, you might look slightly lopsided but it won't stay that way. ;) Bottle feeding too early can also interfere with breast feeding because it can make your baby a lazy nurser since breast feeding requires more work to get milk out than bottle feeding.
Avatar f tn If you supplement before that time your body will not know how much milk to make for your baby and this can sabotage your breast feeding ability. This is because breast feeding is a supply and demand system. The more your baby demands, the more your body will produce. It's hard for ftm's to know if their baby is getting enough from the breast.
1205562 tn?1554747006 I recently heard that drinking one dark beer a day can really help increase your milk supply because of the yeast in the beer. I was skeptical so I researched it a little. And turns out, that yes, it's true!! Beer is second to napping for increasing milk supply!!! So for those of you who like a dark beer... drink up!! :-) My friend has twins and all the nurses told her to drink a beer every day for increased milk supply. Just a bit of information that I thought I'd share.
Avatar f tn your baby will nurse even more frequently and for longer (and can be irritable) while going through a growth spurt. In my experience this can last anywhere from 3-7 days. It can make you feel like baby isn't getting enough when they suddenly want to nurse more but this is actually a good thing. It's natures way of increasing your milk supply to accommodate your growing baby.
Avatar f tn What worked for me was 1 breast per feeding (alternating each breast at each feed) unless my dd was going through a growth spurt and then I would offer the 2nd breast and start with that same breast at the next feeding. This allows maximum hind milk. Also, it is normal for one breast to produce more than another. For me, it was my left breast. This didn't change the way I fed my dd though. And yes, you might look slightly lopsided but it won't stay that way.
Avatar f tn t the right forum but I feel more comfortable asking questions here...I had my daughter on the 9th and at first I had a really good milk supply where my breast would become engorged every two hours if I didn't pump or feed regularly....and I was pumping 2/3 ounces from each breast every time.....now I can hardly get an half an ounce :(....I try to have my daughter on my breast every two hours but it seems like she gets so irritated because nothing is coming out....
Avatar f tn Hey ladies!! Anyone have any tips for breast feeding? I BF my 1st for 8 weeks & would like to go longer this time. Last time I seemed to just stop producing. I tried fenugreek vitamins but didn't seem to help. Anyone know of any vitamins or special diets that help produce milk?
741877 tn?1265950200 this is also another reason why I thought my milk supply is dwindling... I did notice that after a nice warm shower my right breast is leaking milk.. I guess this is a good sign that there's still some milk there??
Avatar f tn I noticed that oatmeal helped my milk supply I made cookies and started eating oatmeal for breakfast. Also if you pump between feedings it will help.
Avatar f tn When I first came home from the hospital I pump and store my breast milk in these sterile storage bags made for breast milk. I will eat oatmeal and take fenugreek tablets to help keep producing milk. You want to keep the baby on the breast as much as possible even if she/he is using you as a pacifier, I noticed skin to skin contact with my little one has helped. My milk supply did decrease while I went back to work.
9924471 tn?1419954420 How many mamas on here will be mainly pumping breast milk for their babies? Unfortunately the hospital i delivered at gave my son a pacifier resulting in nipple confusion ... I still try breast but he gets frustrated. I will be returning to work in a month and would like some tips any tips about pumping. Increasing supply, how much to freeze for an 8 hour work day, best freezer bags, etc.
741877 tn?1265950200 t have enough milk supply for my little one as I would notice he would be hungry and want to feed every hour but only for about 10 min or so then he'd fall asleep and repeat this for a few hours in the afternoon. I literally feel like all I was doing is sitting down and feeding him. Now I have to supplement with formula so that he gets enough food and then he is much more content and won't fuss every hour.
Avatar f tn To establish the best milk supply switch breasts during one feeding a couple times.
Avatar f tn Does stress make your milk supply decrease? I have been under lots of stress and the past few days I'm barely getting 2 ounces out when I pump vs. the 5-8 ounces I usually get. Does stress have anything to do with this?? I don't want to have to give little man formula...
7801868 tn?1395885718 I want to start pumping more often to increase my supply so that way if i go somewhere i have milk put aside. Tonight i plan on having a few drinks and already have enough milk pumped for that. I find i dont get much when i pump, maybe 3 oz total from both boobs. I almost exclusively bf. How can i increase the amount im pumping? Any tips to help with pumping? Best times to pump?
Avatar n tn I have been seeing recipes and pre made cookies at baby stores and read a lot about them increasing milk supply. I had a lot of postpartum issues with my first daughter and gave up trying to breastfeed the first time around. I am 32.5 weeks pregnant with a son and really want to build a strong supply. Has anyone tried these with success?
Avatar n tn I exclusivly BF my son for 12 and a half months, when ever my milk supply would run a little low on milk I would drink lots of water, eat hearty foods and...even though this may come as a shock to some people and seem bad to others I had one beer each day right after one of my LO's feedings, so that the alcohol would not go directly in to his blood stream, it worked great!!!
4643945 tn?1363372357 ive heard of it being effective for increasing breast milk supply never heard about it inducing labor though
1936550 tn?1348360208 he went right from breast milk and weaned to cows milk.... dont listen to your mom when she tries to discourage you you milk is what your baby needs and as long as tou feed when shes ready to eat you should have more than enough milk and once your milk really starts to come on after a couple weeks you can start to pump and freeze it the more you feed the more your breast will make....
Avatar f tn Thank you for the tips I put my nurse to suck but she only does it for like 15 mins then stops & sometimes she gets frustrated so she stop sucking on it & crying & she will not suck on it anymore when she gets like that so thats what ***** but now im going to put her more often because I dont want my milk to dry out
Avatar f tn If you supplement before that time your body will not know how much milk to make for your baby and this can sabotage your breast feeding ability. This is because breast feeding is a supply and demand system. The more your baby demands, the more your body will produce. It's hard for ftm's to know if their baby is getting enough from the breast.
Avatar f tn Never wake a sleeping baby. I would have pumped the milk. My daughter would take naps for 10 hrs or more. Pump every 2hrs. That's when baby would feed.
Avatar f tn This is my second baby. With my first baby I didn't produce enough milk for him no matter how hard I tried and at six weeks I had to supplement with formula. I was devestated and felt very inadequate. I felt like my body let me down and I was letting my son down. I'm so worried the same thing is going to happen again. I have a breast pump and everything and plan on Breastfeeding exclusively but I'm just so nervous that I won't be able to.
Avatar f tn I breast fed my daughter and I always had extra to put in the fridge. I just had to pump at the time she usually had to feed and I kept producing alot of milk.
