Avatar n tn Hi, thanks for your time. I went to the doctor because I thought I had enlarged lymph nodes/viral infection, but it turns out it was my thyroid, which is tender. Nurse practitioner ran TSH only, which was 1.9, but felt nodules so she sent me for an ultrasound. That showed three nodules in one lobe, one in the other, all seemed benign, but "upper normal" thyroid. However an uptake scan was recommended.
Avatar m tn 3% and 24 hour uptake measures 25.4%. There is a mild diffuse radiotracer uptake assoc with the large partially cystic nodule in isthmus as would be expected. Normal 6 and 24 hour radiotracer uptake. Anyone know what the heck all this meas? Cuz I dont at all. Thank forall your help and support.
Avatar n tn For the past 3 years I have been low (hyper) to normal my thyroid test. Now they are in normal range. I was dx with subacute thyroiditis but never been treated ( seen 3 different endo's). Uptake low, bengin goiter, 3 ultrasound continue to show increased enlargement in my thyroid, antibodies are went from 176 to 113.
Avatar f tn I am now getting swelling, pain, thyroiditis so they did an ultrasound last week and immediately called me yesterday to have a thyroid uptake this am. They could not find my thyroid gland or any radioactive activity in my neck. The uptake didn't work. They destroyed my thyroid gland due to a multinodular toxic goiter that has caused alot of problems with my health since I was 21. The nodules are still there and they found one bigger than 1 cm on the ultrasound.
Avatar n tn Hi there anyone else with blood test saying Hyper but Uptake scan say Hypo..?? Here are my results and thoughts? What does this mean..? Sorry here is the blood work again Free T4 1.82 h ng/dl (.82 - 1.77 Normal) Free T3 4.9 h pg/ml (2.0 - 4.4) TSH .007 (4.0 - .3) normal TPO ab 11 IU/ml (0-34) normal Uptake 6% at 6 hours and 12% at 12 hours Homogeneous with global decrease extraction of rdiotracer.
Avatar f tn My thyroid test came back normal however the thyroid uptake scan, came back that I had Graves disease. The doctor is currently not doing anything. He believes that I do not have graves, but the scan was done three different times and each time it came back with the same thing. What do you suggust?
Avatar f tn That is because TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by so many things that, at best, it is only an indicator, to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms and also levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3. The tests for Total T4, T3 uptake and Free Thyroxine Index are outdated and not very useful.
751942 tn?1238603875 He ordered an RAI uptake/scan for the multinodular goiter and when I asked about the 2.3 cm nodule, he said it could be inflammation. I thought nodules over 1 cm were often biopsied ? Is a scan usually done before a biopsy? Maybe I get to skip that! He also said that my thyroid hormone levels are on the high end of normal and I may be hyper, even though I have no symptoms. I have my scan on 2-10 and go back to see the Dr. on 2-18. Hopefully then I will know something.
1232907 tn?1367471737 I had a 24 hour thyroid uptake, haven't got results yet but I saw on the screen it said 74.4%. What does that mean?
746399 tn?1233070072 However I don’t know what the pediatric reference range for Thyroid is. Could you please give me the pediatric reference range is for these thyroid tests, T-Uptake, T-4, and TSH? On Feb 17, 09 test results were as follows, T-Uptake……. 37 T-4…………..3.4 L TSH………….1.23 On May 1, 09 test results were as fallows, T-4…………..5.2 L TSH………….1.41 My son has an appointment with his pediatrician on Monday and I am bringing the complete lab reports with us to his appointment.
Avatar f tn Had a thyroid with uptake done last week. It took a lot longer than usual so the tech said because thyroid was slow to uptake. She said this meant hypothyroid now I am so confused. I have been so tired for years, very sensitive to cold, leg and feet pain and never feel rested. I really don't think my doctor cares. Said he has to wait until he gets written report to treat with med. Symptoms have been worse the past 2 years. I really don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn low TSH and high/normal T4 combined with low RAI uptake sound like thyroid inflammation; it damages the thyroid tissue, so hormones are leaking into the blood stream causing high T4 and very low TSH. High ESR reading indicates thyroiditis of viral origin, while high TPO antibodies may point to Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Avatar f tn I have an appointment with my doctor on the Monday following the thyroid uptake scan, which is Wednesday. I have a question about the thyroid uptake scan to those who have had it done... do you get results immediately? Will a radiologist come out after the test and say "here are your results" or do I have to wait for the radiologist to type up something and send it to my doctor? The reason I ask is that each day I am feeling worse.
Avatar f tn The results will show how much of the iodine your thyroid took up. If the uptake was high, your daughter will likely be diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and, possibly, Graves Disease. If the uptake is low/minimal, she will be diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Of course, this is only valid for what happens during this time and things can change the next day...
Avatar f tn s has caused a nodule on your thyroid gland that leaks thyroid hormone faster than normal and that can cause a low TSH. This can be checked out by an ultrasound test of the thyroid gland. You really should be tested for the biologically active thyroid hormones Free T4 and Free T3 every time you go in for tests.
Avatar f tn Radioactive thyroid uptake (RAIU) is most commonly performed to determine the cause of hyperthyroidism. Results can show high, low or uneven iodine uptake depending on the cause of the hyperthyroidism. RAIU can also show low iodine uptake with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (uptake is usually low with patchy hot spots in the gland with Hashimoto's). Nodules can show up as hot or cold. Hot nodules may overproduce thyroid hormone but they are rarely cancerous.
Avatar n tn It makes me confuse, my blood test indicates my thyroid is hyper but my uptake exam shows my thyroid is hypo or I have thyroiditis. is it normal? can these results be different? although my blood test shows I have hypo why uptake shows I have thyroiditis or hypo? please help me.
Avatar f tn Help. I have been experienceing problems with an enlargement of my left thyroid. I have started a work-up with a family practice, but have questions. I am a veterinarian, so i have done alot of research on my own and am trying to make this process quick and efficient. I have had extreme fatigue, swelling hands and feet, dry skin and brittle hair for approx 3-4 months. I have gained 28 lbs in 3 months also. I am experiencing difficulty swallowing and gagging/choking on food.
1139187 tn?1355706647 A thyroid scan was done 24 hours post oral ingestion with multiple scintigraphic images of the thyroid made. The scan is inadequate for evaluation with very limited amount of I-123 uptake limiting counts resulting in inaqequtely visualization of the thyroid gland. IMPRESSION 1. the thryoid uptake values are within the hypothyroid ranges measuring 4.5 at 4 hours and 1% at 24 hours. 2. The scan is inadequate for evaluation due to very limited amount of uptake.
8882583 tn?1400413744 I am scheduled for another uptake scan Mon. And Tue....I am also worried about thyroid storm, since I am short of breath lately. Does anyone have a similar pattern and what was done? BTW...my last uptake scan showed both solid and colliod nodules, along with several toxic (hot) nodules...one being much larger than the others....help if you have any advice, thanks.

Avatar m tn Over the last 12 years she has been taking Levoxyl. Does an Uptake Scan determine whether she has Thyroid Cancer.
