Avatar n tn Is it usual for an obese person who is having toxic goiter that the weight is not reduced but increased instead? Can that person take actions to reduced weight? Is it allowed?I loose only 2 kg during her 3 years of treatment and then I gain weight.? I am taking methimazole 20mg OD for 2 months, atenolol od for 2 weeks. If my hormones results are within normal or almost, I'm scheduled for thyroidectomy.
Avatar n tn It really depends, if you are hashimoto and your thyroid hasn't completely died then it's possible for your thyroid to sputter into function on its own and provide you with thyroid hormone in addition to the meds "which will create a situation of too much" and require a reduction of meds...
Avatar m tn 3 out of 4 doctors say I need to be on thyroid medication. Unfortunately, number 4 that says it is fine is the one who has to be the one to prescribe it. If you could help me with any information for my mom, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I am to start taking HCG drops for weight reduction.
Avatar m tn This is almost perfect thyroid results apart from slight reduction in TSH value. Since you are not on any thyroid medication you can't reduce the dose so can't do anything like that. The only thing do in this situation is wait and watch. In the mean time you can check and rule out any deficiencies. Vitamin D3 Vitamin B12 Ferritin (urgency in that order, vitamin D3 most common) Also never cut on sleeps during night as lack of enough sleep during night can reduce weight by big margins.
Avatar f tn Blood oxygen levels are not a botheration at this time but you should concentrate on losing some weight. Weight reduction, if you are overweight or obese, is the optimal health strategy for patients who suffer from COPD. This can be done through a combination of diet, an increase in physical activity and sometimes medication. Weight reduction can help reduce dyspnea, increase exercise tolerance and improve your quality of life.

1806721 tn?1554333407 Much of the advertising with statins describe a 36% risk reduction in heart attacks. This is a relative risk reduction. The absolute risk reduction is a decrease from a 3% risk to a 2% risk. In practical terms, this means that in men under the age of 65 with pre-existing heart disease, 100 have to take a statin for 3 years to prevent 1 heart attack.
Avatar f tn Low levels of tyrosine levels is linked to a reduction in thyroid hormones and also a decrease in neurotransmitters like dopamine affecting the central nervous system (12). Under conditions of high stress, the loss of available tyrosine to the brain results in one’s loss of interest, slower movement and a decline in physical health. Low tyrosine levels coupled with chronic stress leads to a decrease in enzymatic activity responsible for producing hormones.
Avatar f tn thyroidectomy 2yrs ago (pap cancer) surgical menopause 15yrs ago (ovarian cancer) I also have autoimmune disease and take immunosuppressive drugs to treat and aside from 50lb weight gain since thyroid removal and psoriatic arthritis flare that has left me crippled for better part of these past 2yrs I'm pretty healthy. I'm curious if I could benefit from more T4 or could actually benefit from a reduction as I'm sure Endo will "highly" recommend the reduction.

Avatar f tn I had low thyroid, low vitamin d, anemic, and breast reduction working against me as well as a prem baby with his health needs. I had a great midwife who helped me breastfeed every couple of hours and pump in between feeds in the first 3 days to help build up supply and help with attachment but as his needs changed my supply didn't increase and what he did get wasn't very good quality. After a month he was well below his birth weight and still had jaundice.
Avatar n tn I had my Thyroid removed in 2007 after having thyroid cancer. I was feeling pretty good until my doctor changed dosage of Eutirox. My TSH was 0.02, FT3 4,74 Lab level 3.9-6.8 and FT4 1,53 Lab level 0.93-1.70. Now I'm feeling tired again and gaining weight, also I have some pain in my knee joint.
Avatar m tn You do understand that once your thyroid has been destroyed by radiation, you will be hypo and dependent on replacement thyroid hormones for the rest of your life? You will never be "done" with this if your thyroid is irradiated. Have you been diagnosed with Graves'?
Avatar n tn In Julia’s case, it’s possible that the substantial weight loss contributed to a reduction in the amount of hormone needed. Perhaps the body’s own production is enough. Or she may have had an inflammation in her thyroid, which healed after she started eating LCHF. Perhaps the diet change contributed, but it’s difficult to know for sure. Question: Are you on thyroid medication for hypothyroidism? Have you started an LCHF diet after being diagnosed? What happened?
1757391 tn?1346127363 t have to lose weight. But know that if you have a reduction done and then lose weight, your chest size will also likely decrease drastically. I lost 60 pounds after I had my daughter, and my chest is currently almost non-existent. Before I got pregnant I was a B. Now I'm the smallest A size, and usually don't even need a bra. Nothing to contain.
Avatar m tn The thyroid enlarges to as it desperately tries to compensate for the reduction in thyroxine. If your meds are the correct dose, your thyroid should shrink to normal size within a few months. If it doesn't, your dose needs to be adjusted but don't let them make the decision based on TSH levels alone - check the free T3. It should be in the top 20% of the "normal" range if your dose is correct. Also check out stopthethyroidmadness.com - great info there too...
1339808 tn?1276321180 In addition, there is a reduction in the rate of secretion of thyroid metabolic hormones which are important in the normal functioning of basal functions. Lack of sleep also causes a reduction in the secretion of leptin, a hormone that suppresses appetite, so that you tend to eat more. There is an increase in ghrelin production, and it increases appetite, so you tend to eat more.

428506 tn?1296557399 5 years, and my last testing showed it at 2.91. At one time, I tested positive for thyroid antibodies, but was negative for them a month later. My LLMD is hoping that I do not have a separate thyroid problem, and that my fatigue and other hypothyroid-like symptoms will improve with Lyme treatment. He also had me on supplements for adrenal support, though I don't recall the active ingredients. Before my fatigue set in (Fall '08), I was losing weight intentionally.

Avatar f tn I had half of my thyroid removed 6yrs ago and have been on synthroid since. I have lost weight before (deliberately) and not seen a change in my TSH levels. This year I have really worked hard to improve my diet & exercise thoroughly. I eat a wide variety of vegetables & fruits and have cut out almost all extra sugar and processed foods. I've lost about 47lbs in 7 months. I just had my TSH level checked and its 0.
