What makes you think your thyroid is low functioning? Have you been tested for the actual thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3? If so post the results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.

t look at whether the thyroid meds were used to treat hypothyroid or if they were used for weight loss. I imagine that the benefit of taking thyroid meds if you are hypothyroid (considering that you probably can't get pregnant and may die without them, and may seriously affect the mental development of the baby) far outweighs any risk for homosexuality in female infants.
Please don't use this observational study as a reason not to take your thyroid meds if you need it.
I have been gaining weight over the past 8years. I cannot seem to lose weight no matter what I try.I have done all the diets only to lose 5lbs and gain10lbs..Extremely tired all the time. I am 5ft 175lbs and 54 years of age. I do not want to be on any prescription medicine. I just lost my baby sister to breast and brain cancer and she too was hypothyroid . Is there any other alternative?
I m a hypo thyroid n i m taking euthroxine about 175mcg.. I m 32 weeks now n im gaining weight cuz of my hypothyroid state.. My endocrynologist calls me every 20th day n get me tested..
Its caused by antibodies attacking the thyroid. In this case meds are increased as the thyroid dies off more. In the beginning of Hoshimotos disease you can flip flop from hypo to hyper to normal for periods before you gradually go hypo. Does not happen to all. This is diagnosed from two antibody tests. Did she have these tests?

She is going to the doctor to be tested for the condition, but I don´t even know if it is possible to lose weight on the medicine if you do NOT have a hypothyroid condition? She thinks that even if she has a normal one, she could take it and it would just boost her metabolism.

s normal for you, you should find it easier to lose weight. For some people, the weight comes right off when put on thyroid med; however, some of us have to work at getting it off. So just taking the med might not be enough to reduce your weight. You may have to reduce your calories even further and/or begin a light exercise program, such as a brisk daily walk or something, which is also good for your heart.
Is nuclear medicine an option for me and will the nuclear medicine affect my ability to have children? How long can I wait before having the thyroid removed. Last year, a nodule formed on the left side. I have not had it tested to see if it's cold or hot, but that one is getting larger and I don't want to wait until I can't swallow to do something.
We sometimes hear of people who gain weight, hypo or hyper, and others who lose weight whenever thyroid hormones aren't right, but you're the first who gains when meds are increased and loses when decreased (that I know of), just the opposite of what you'd expect.
Sorry, I don't even have a suggestion for you of what could be causing this. This comment will bump you up to the top...maybe someone else has some ideas.
I take levxoyl 150mcg and they just changed it from 175mcg. Can to much thyroid medicine cause acid reflux to start?
After first week of tx my doctor started my on thyroid meds (25 mg); now I am up to 50 mg. I will be finished with tx soon and want to continue taking the thyroid medicine. I have heard that once you take thyroid medicine you have to take it for the rest of your life. I heard that some people have experience post tx weight gain as well. This is my biggest concern that if they take me off of the thyroid meds that I will experience weight gain.
7 and In June I weight 135 and now I am 150.... My question is can the uptake upset the thyroid to the point of such aggressive weight gain? I have even upped my workouts to try and counter act since I am so miserable. I read a lot of posts of specific free t3 and 4 levels and uptake results, but I have not received my exact numbers, so sorry I can't post (I will try to call and get them if it will help suggestions and input).
