1372123 tn?1280749911 Hi, The lump behind the tongue should be either hypertrophied lingual tonsils or the ectopic thyroid gland (also called Lingual thyroid). It is because of the chronic irritation in this site could have caused the enlargement of the lingual tonsils and hence the glands in the neck, or lingual thyroid was noticed accidentally during your dental checkup Rather than speculating things, please do consult your ENT/Oral Specialist. Any more doubts you are welcome.
Avatar m tn My husband went to ent doctor for a thyroid nodule because the family doctor him to seehim. now the ent doctor wants to do a biopsy of the nodule which is 6mm. Also when he look down is throat he only could see the top of his tonsils. Now he tells him to come back so he could put down a light down his throat to see the bottom of his tonsils. Why couldn't he do that in the first visit. When we were living in another state my my husband went to the ent doctor to cleaned out his ears wax.
Avatar f tn Back in May I got strep throat. I ended up getting it a total of 4 times over a 10week period. I don't know if I had become immune to all amoxicillon or not, but it finally went away mid-July. Then 1.5weeks later I had a flare up of what I thought was strep(fever, red throat, puss & canker sores). My doctor sent me to an ENT who left it up to me if I want to have my tonsils removed or just monitor it through the winter months. My tonsils are still swollen, but no sore throat.
Avatar m tn I have no idea why the ENT could not see the entire tonsil or even what the tonsils have to do with the thyroid... they have completely different functions. The thyroid can not be seen by looking down the throat.
976511 tn?1248273141 “tonsillolith (also called tonsil stone, tonsillar debris, tonsillar pearl, zot, pebbles, bad breath bead, or calculus of the tonsil) is a piece (or more commonly, a cluster) of calcareous matter which forms in the rear of the mouth, in the crevasses (called tonsillar crypts) of the palatine tonsils (which are what most people commonly refer to as simply tonsils). Protruding tonsilloliths may have the feel of a foreign object, lodged in the back of the tonsil crypt.
1170388 tn?1263321245 Here I thought once we got rid of the problem we were done! LOL. As the thyroid is a lymph gland the same as tonsils, I'm not surprised to hear that it grew back. My current doctor asked whether I ever have problems with my tonsils because they appear to be slightly swollen all the time .... but my tonsils were removed in 1969 and I was in the hospital for a whole week! I don't even have a scar to prove my surgery!
Avatar f tn MY father has been recognised with cancer in the tonsils. can cyberknife help in this cace.
Avatar n tn I had protected vaginal sex, but unprotected oral (both gave and received). Roughly 3 days later I developed a sore throat and a few days after that yellow puss formed on my tonsils. The only description I can use is that my tonsils looked "marbled" via the pus vs full coverage. I also had mild flu like symptoms, cough, lethargic, muscle ache, but no fever. After about 4 days the yellow puss disappeared, but the tonsils/throat still appear red.
Avatar n tn I have never had a problem with my tonsils in my life, I am a 29 year old male. All of the sudden I have been getting tonsillitis almost every other month. I keep treating it with antibiotics. I have a feeling that my extreme smoking of cigarettes in a closed space might be a possible cause of my infections. I think I am overloading them with toxins. Anyone have any input on this. My main question is, Every time i get tonsillitis the doctor says it is bacterial infection.
487969 tn?1249313291 Adenoids are in the same vicinity as the tonsils. You probably did have them out when you had your tonsils out. Just wondering because I had a problem with both in my late teens and it used to cause swelling in the glands in my neck, especially on one side. Good luck at your ENT appt and hope you get more feedback as to questions to ask.
1157646 tn?1343967128 He checked my tonsils as I get tonsilitis and general infected/inflamed tonsils regularly but havent had an issue now for maybe 4 months or so. Tonsils are all clear. He felt around my stomach and sides feeling for any inflammation or tenderness to give him an indication where the inflamation may be...but to no avail...he found nothing. The doctor said physically I seem completely healthy.
5194006 tn?1380819887 Unfortunately, your doctor didn't order the 2 most important tests, which are Free T3 and Free T4. Both total T4 and T3 uptake are considered obsolete and of little value. It looks like you might have 2 problems - one with thyroid and the other with tonsils, but I'd want to see a Free T3 and a Free T4 before saying that you definitely have a thyroid condition. A thyroid condition, typically, won't cause a "sore throat", such as what we get when we have a cold, flu, etc.
Avatar f tn No low lying tonsils is not the same...the difference is low lying tonsils can result from a trauma, blow to the head etc...or a fast draw on a LP....but Chiari is a malformed skull which is too small to hold the cerebellum and it forces it out creating the herniation. The symptoms and treatment is the same tho.
1265027 tn?1284839951 He did a rhinoscope (stuck the camera up my nose) and told me i had large tonsils and adenoids. He did an ultrasound of my throat and neck as well. He also did blood. Everything came back normal. the sensation in my throat went away. The other day it came back. sometimes its bad other times its fine. What can cause this to happen? Ive hears Stress, GERD, Acid reflux....i have stayed awya from coffee and chocolate. I wake up in the AM and its fine then by night i wana cry.
Avatar n tn but the glands in my throat have been swollen (pea sized) for about 3 months now, the back of my throat very red and tonsils seem enlarged . 4 weeks after I had white spots on my tonsils, low grade fever 99.5- 100.4 it was off and on. alittle chills no much, sore throat and cough. negitve strep and mono test . this just sucks.
Avatar n tn 4 days ago found a lump near my thyroid. seems growng and hurts to touch swallow move any thing...what can i do..
Avatar f tn The thyroid weight gain is usually under 10 pounds and is mainly water. Still, I would have a full thyroid panel with thyroid antibody test to rule out thyroid disease as it could be making you not feel like exercising--leading to the weight gain. Also, children do put on weight after age 5 so the tonsil surgery could be a coincidence rather than a true correlation.
Avatar n tn It means you will need to take thyroid medicine. What has your Dr. told you. Mine was 20 last week so my meds were increased I take Levoxyl. The reason mine went so high in my opinion is because I stopped taking the Levoxyl for a month or so. Felt lousy so had my blood tested and voila! Now I return in 6 weeks for another blood test to find the numbers. Maybe I will stay on the dose or it may need to be adjusted. This was my fault for stopping. They told me they like mine around 2.
5194006 tn?1380819887 can your thyroid cause your tonsils to swell though? I just had an thyroid ultrasound because I think they wanted to measure the nodules in my neck. I get my results back today.
Avatar n tn It all depends on your TSH levels and/or symptoms and why you had the partial done (cancer vs. non cancer, etc.) If you have the TSH labs that may be helpful to give some feedback.
1298554 tn?1336006851 I have been taking metrinidazole 500mg for 3 days and I been feeling itching in my face and ears and I have noticed that I have small pimple like bumps on my tonsils that are itchy at times and I feel like there is some thing on the side of my throat I was wondering if this could be an allergic reaction to this medication or to azithromacyn since I was given 2 pills of 500mg each that I was told to take together and also a shot
Avatar f tn I've had problems with my tonsils all year. Tested for mono and strep but they came back negative, I've been on medication with no luck so I'm always shrugged off and told that it's a viral case of tonsillitis. I have no other symptoms other than discomfort/trouble swallowing and breathing at night. It constantly feels like I have an egg in my throat... and I'm guessing the white bits are tonsil stones? I'm really getting frustrated.
Avatar f tn hello, i was diagnosed with silent thyroiditis (not related to pregnancy/post-partum) months ago because i was hyperT for a few months and now i'm hypoT. i was put on 88mcg of synthroid 6 weeks ago because my free t3 and free t4 were low and my tsh was 55.86. my current labs are free t4 normal and tsh of 9.29. should my synthroid dosage be raised? and if normal thyroid function could spontaneously recover, how would my body know to do so if i'm on synthetic hormone?
Avatar n tn In December, I had a bad swelling and infectionoof my right pallintine tonsil. I was given an antibiotic shot, followed by pills for ten days. The swelling subsided, however, I had discomfort in my right sublingual salivary gland, and what I thought was a lymph node on the right side jaw area. Upon palpitation by the ENT, no irregularities were detected. However, I underwent a CT scan of the neck with contrast.
