I am now getting swelling, pain, thyroiditis so they did an ultrasound last week and immediately called me yesterday to have a thyroid uptake this am. They could not find my thyroid gland or any radioactive activity in my neck. The uptake didn't work. They destroyed my thyroid gland due to a multinodular toxic goiter that has caused alot of problems with my health since I was 21. The nodules are still there and they found one bigger than 1 cm on the ultrasound.
Had a thyroid with uptake done last week. It took a lot longer than usual so the tech said because thyroid was slow to uptake. She said this meant hypothyroid now I am so confused. I have been so tired for years, very sensitive to cold, leg and feet pain and never feel rested. I really don't think my doctor cares. Said he has to wait until he gets written report to treat with med. Symptoms have been worse the past 2 years. I really don't know what to do.
I need some help understanding my thyroid. I've had my blood drawn three times and they all show a very very hyperthyroid. However, I've had a thyroid uptake and scan and there is almost no activity, meaning i am very hypothyroid. I will be going to an endochronologist, but not for about 6 weeks. I was hoping to have some insight on this before I arrived. Any suggestions/comments will be appreciated!

What prompted the uptake scan? Have you had thyroid function tests - Free T4, Free T3 and TSH?
Have you had a thyroid ultrasound?
Do you know if you have Hashimoto's or Graves Disease?
Uptake is relatively uniform throughout the thyroid except for that lower left pole, which would be that possible hot nodule.
It doesn't say if you have multiple nodules or just the one possible hot nodule on left lobe. Hot nodules are hyperfunctioning and non-cancerous.
Should Repliva 21/7 be stopped prior to a nuclear thyroid scan & uptake? Should jewelry (earrings) be removed prior? Would the scan/uptake be affected if they weren't removed?
Therefore when mixed with T3 (which is easier to measure), the blood proteins would take up very little T3. Thus a low T3 uptake implies elevated T4 levels and vice versa. Thus the T3 Uptake test is actually an antiquated, inaccurate way to measure T4 levels.
* Free Thyroxine Index: This test uses T3 Uptake as one of its factors and therefore is as useless as the T3 Uptake. Again, I list it here only as a warning to not throw your money away on this and save it for a meaningful test.
