Avatar m tn The interesting thing is the symptoms of Low T in women virtually match identically the low thyroid symptom list. So the difficulty is to convince the Dr. that her lasting symptoms may be low T and not Hypo thyroid is a touch argument to make. And there is no gurantee that it is not BOTH. All I know is that the tests show she is BELOW range. As you can see above they won't even list the amount. It simply says less than 0.20 which is the botom of the range.

Many women with PCOS also have an elevated prolactin level, and since you have thyroid issues, I would certainly want to check your level if you were my patient. One of the best medications for treating PCOS is oral contraceptives--these cause the body to produce a protein called sex hormone binding globulin which binds up and inactivates excess testosterone.
Avatar m tn They need to understand that the majority of us are not the hypochondriacs they suppose we are. Whenever thyroid related symptoms are presented (in most cases, even one thyroid related symptom should qualify), a thyroid condition should be ruled out/confirmed, with a full thyroid panel, BEFORE other things, rather than left as a "last resort" thing to look at.
988694 tn?1332359479 I don't suffer PMS symptoms regardless of my thyroid levels. Japanese women rarely suffer hot flashes (there is no word in Japanese for hot flashes!) during menopause due to the high amount of soy in their diet (soy is a phytoestrogen).
1943695 tn?1324041042 Fatigue, pain in my upper right abdomen under my ribs, nausea, loss of appetite, Headache, Tinnitus (hearing a ringing noise), ticks, mood swings, and short temper. Any ideas would help.
Avatar n tn What can cause such a sudden change? Although I feel as if I have a pill stuck in my throat, a sonogram showed no mass on my thyroid. Is that feeling normal? Should I settle so fast for this new condition that I may have to take medication for the rest of my life? I am going to see an endocrinologist but her waiting list is 3 months long. In the meantime, I would appreciate any insightful advice.
Avatar m tn You should have sex during ovulation days. Maintain a healthy lifestyle. You should take a balanced and nutritious diet rich in all these vitamins and minerals. Exercise daily and reduce weight if you are overweight. Get a prenatal checkup done and ask your doctor about prenatal vitamins like folic acid. Stay away from stress and exercise daily. If you are still unable to conceive contact your doctor. In that case you and your husband both may need evaluation .
Avatar f tn but every time the thyroid tests came back normal. To make a long story short, the low thyroid finally did show up in testing. I have read since that time that the test to ask for is T3 RIA...it may show "hidden" thyroid problems. I wish I had known! Best of luck to you...doctors need to LISTEN to us!
Avatar n tn be related to over-production of testosterone or DHEA, which is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that leads to the production of androgens and estrogens in, both men and women. Too much DHEA in women can cause symptoms such as oily skin, increased unnatural hair growth, a deep voice, irregular periods, smaller breast size, and increased genital size.
547002 tn?1219797376 s production of thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormone may leak out of the inflamed gland in large amounts, causing hyperthyroidism that lasts for several weeks. Later on, the injured gland may not be able to make enough thyroid hormone, resulting in temporary hypothyroidism. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism may not be recognized when they occur in a new mother. They may be simply attributed to lack of sleep, nervousness, or depression.
Avatar f tn No doctor I have ever mentioned this to seems to have ever heard of this before. The only thing I see here in my symptoms and those of others posting here is Thyroid. I take meds for diabetes II and thyroid (armour thyroid). I think this is just the strangest thing that women are having this sensation and doctors tell us they have never heard of this.......
Avatar n tn And like I said, it is different in women. Like Angie sid, it is a burnng ache in the center of the chest. If you begin to feel that you should not take any chances.
314532 tn?1206415109 Ferritin is very important to assure proper thyroid hormone function. Low ferritin can also cause some symptoms that mimic hypo symptoms. So you need to talk with your doctor about these issues and make sure you get the Free T3 tested each time. If you want I can give you some links for your doctor about how TSH suppression frequently occurs when taking thyroid med, and doesn't mean hyperthyroidism.
Avatar m tn Hypothyroidism is much more prevalent among women than men, but there are lots of us that also have the problem. What kind of symptoms are you having? What med are you taking and what dosage? If you would also please post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report, then members can assess the adequacy of your testing and treatment.
Avatar n tn Antibodies attack and destroy the thyroid, or cause it to produce too much hormones. Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease in which antibodies cause the thyroid to over produce hormones. The definitive test for Graves Disease is Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin. I wonder, on what basis were you diagnosed with Graves Disease if you haven't had antibody tests?
Avatar m tn I was hoping if you could tell me more about it (the symptoms, treatments, success rates for women in their 50s). Thank you! Your help will be greatly appreciated. This discussion is related to nodule on isthmus.
Avatar n tn Thyroid nodules are often benign, but sometimes can be cancerous, so it might be a good idea to get a thyroid ultrasound. I was told by my ENT that 30% of women in their thirties have nodules, 40% of women in their 40s, 50% of women in their 50s, etc. have nodules, and the vast majority of those are not thyroid cancer, so even if they find nodules on your ultrasound, it does not mean thyroid cancer. So...
Avatar m tn Jon gave you great advice. It's very true that women can have different symptoms then men. We're all so different. I did not have the common symptoms, but, I did have a lot of what I thought were stomach issues. I was also very tired all the time. You are young at 42 but you do need to find a way to get checked out. My sister had her heart attack at 45. It's better to know what's going on. It could be stress and stomach issues or it could be heart related.
