Avatar m tn I'm a 22 yr old female working and going to school and wondering if I should get my thyroid removed. I have hashimotos disease and with that hypothyroidism. I've had a benine tumor taken out of my neck a few years ago...but other than that have been able to regulate (for the most part) my TSH with some medication. Since my thyroid has no function to me, because I'm already taking medication to give me what my thyroid won't I've been wondering if I should just take it out.
Avatar n tn I have been doing research on this topic and apparently weight gain, hair loss, depression etc are all side effects of surgery. I have never experienced any of these problems. My doctor says this is ridiculous. He says as long as my medication is monitored properly I'll be fine. I would appreciate any feedback on this subject. Obviously if these are the side effects I'll stick with my big neck!
1201433 tn?1328997637 This is not a side effect of Levothyroxine. What could be happening is the medication for thyroid may not be balancing the thyroid out correctly and throwing off other hormones causing this issue. My thought would be to ask for a full round of tests. Thyroid FT3 and FT4, FSH/LH - DHEA, A1C and your metobolic panel labs.
Avatar n tn t felt the effects yet of those meds - but maybe the removal was definately something that could make you feel better right now. T4 meds especially take a few weeks to build up in the system and being on this for 4 days most likely wouldn't be visable quite yet.
Avatar n tn However I have read a bunch of horror stories on this website about calcium levels and side effects after the operation as well as the difficulty of getting the replacement levels right.
Avatar f tn Why are you so worried about calcium levels? Calcium has nothing to do with your thyroid removal.
Avatar f tn Of late Iam having many side effects because of the prolonged usage of themedicine like restlessness,,slight giddiness anxiety and gabbraut. The medicine is only to supplement the shortage externally.Do you agree Homeopathy treatment will be advisable.Ihighly value your input.
Avatar m tn I was started on .088mg (based on weight) and had no obvious side effects until two weeks later when I suddenly had a panic attack. It was terrifying and a few days later I had another more mild one. I stopped the medication and immediately felt better for several days but then became exhausted again so I started on a lower dosage of .
Avatar f tn Don't know why they should have different effects since they are both T4. Did you change anything else during the time you switched that could have affected absorption or conversion to T3? What were your FT4 and FT3 levels before and after the switch to Synthroid?
711158 tn?1229544700 To best try and answer some of your questions, we need to know what blood tests for thyroid have been run and what were the actual results. If free T3 and free T4 have not been run, along with the usual TSH, then that would be a good idea to have done. I have no experience with BP being affected by thyroid, so I'll leave that for other members.
Avatar f tn I feel like everything inside is really warm like I am taking a fat burner. I have read some of the side effects but it also states that it takes a few weeks for cardiac function to adjust to this med. I am still perplexed at how spontaneous the diagnosis happened without other testing to rule out anything else. I am probable asking the same question that has been asked more than it can be counted but who has experienced and did this pass and get better?
Avatar n tn I forgot to mention in my previous post that I was tested for antibodies and both ANA and the other antibodies test he conducted indicated early stage of Hashi's. I'm thinking that although 25mcg is a low dose of Synthroid, it was too high a dose for me to start on because my TSH wasn't that high and my thyroid gland is still producing a sufficient amount of hormone to keep me going. So is it possible to start treatment with Synthroid too soon?
Avatar n tn 12 yrs ago I received 4 treatments 3wks apart. Adriamycin and Cytoxcin and something else after a breast removal and underarm lymph nodes revealed stage 2 cancer. I opted not to do radiation or anyother continued medicines. I turn 64 in April. My parents and grandparents were very active and strong into their 80's. I have all ways been a very stong active woman until 4 yrs ago when I started having a host of crazy symptoms.
Avatar m tn I recently read that one of the side effects of circumcision is meatal stenosis and that uncircumcised men don't suffer from it. Is that correct? Also, would this side effect occur if a male had a frenoplasty? Do any of the other side effects of circumcision apply to a frenoplasty?
Avatar f tn Would you discuss with your endo how your metabolic system will work without some substitue for your hypothyroidic condition? There are many other synthetics on the market that may not have the same side effects, but no dosing at all does not sound pro active or beneficial to your health. Best.
Avatar m tn Until last summer my symptoms were somewhat under control, I was taking anti-depressants and I believe that may have lessen the hyper/hypo effects. I am sure it did at this point. Since stopping Prozac I know the horrible side effects that was causing. Now I am feeling the effects of the Levothyroxine and hyperthyroidism. I may also add that I do not have my large intestine, as it was removed due to ulcerlative colitis in 1991, so I may not absorb medications as most people do.
1063764 tn?1272821064 Hey I have been taking Tirosint for 3 months and I have had terrible side effects. I have lost so much more hair, I have broken out in hives, major headaches, memory loss, confusion, major depression, weight gain, on and on. I was taking armor before this and I had a lot less side effects. I felt so much better but the med world doesn't want to support armor for some reason so they fight against us taking it.
Avatar n tn In August of 2008 I had the left side of my Thyroid removed. He found not only the 4cm nodule but several smaller nodules behind it. I did have to stay in the hospital over night but let me tell you, this was the easiest surgery I have ever had. I was cut about 4 inchs in the front of my neck and had a drainage tube for three days, but I can say i had no pain at all. I was only off work two weeks. Here I am 5 months later and my scar is barely visable.
