200251 tn?1245989901 I have never had an ultrasound. Nobody will do one because my labs are normal. They did a CT scan in April? 2007 because of the swollen node & the tightness I felt. That wouldn't have shown a nodule on the voice box or thyroid? I've done a neck check a million times, I don't see any lumps, all I see is my thyroid gland...looks to be about even on both sides, right side a little bigger. It is very pronounced on the bottom...seems to be thick from the back towards the front...
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with thyroid condition in 2001, had total thyroid removed in 02 because of cancer, was on 175mcg Levothyroxine for all these years until a few months ago when they lowered me to the 137mcg. The Doctor took me off my med's slowly, he started with lowering me to 100mcg and then 75, 50, 25 and then a week on 5 cytomyl, then one week with no medication at all, then I went in and had my labs drawn.
Avatar f tn As that is occurring, the gland produces a diminishing amount of thyroid hormone, and the TSH starts rising in response. To offset the loss, thyroid med is required to keep your serum thyroid levels high enough to prevent symptoms. Also, be aware that Free T3 correlates best with hypo symptoms, while Free T4 and TSH do not correlate well at all. Another thing to note is that when taking adequate thyroid medication, the TSH is frequently suppressed below range.
460185 tn?1326077772 Wolf, I'm so glad to see you've come to the thyroid forum to ask questions. With what you've told me I think you do need to get tested. And get the exact tests that Goolarra said to get. Don't just let your Dr do the TSH test because it's not enough. Also ask for the antibodies test. Take care.
967168 tn?1477584489 I have so many questions so I don't know where to start. I received some bloodwork from the hospital where I had an ablation done and pacemaker/icd implanted (had problems until recently to get my results) on the results it showed some problem H's & L's but the numbers didn't look too terrible to me. Can anyone point me to somewhere I can find limits for Thyroid testing?
Avatar f tn We all here hav or have had thyroid problems in every shape and form and we are all here to give and recieve support and also knowledge too. Dont feel bad if you feel the need to vent.......I have done it so often myself in the early days. Yes it is hard to deal with and yes, you feel like it is never ending but as time goes on and you know what is going on with you....everyone here will be here for you to help deal with it. A problem halved is a lot easier to deal with, I say.
974371 tn?1424653129 I do see an Endocronologist and know I have probably 5 thyroid nodules and maybe a cyst. Two thyroid nodule biopsies have been done, benign. I was due for my 6 month check up and she has ordered another thyroid biopsy. I had my blood work done but was too sick with ongoing stomach problems, nobody can diagnose, to make it to the appt. Looking at my records, the last 3 TSH test results were Nov. 2011. 0.80 May 2012 1.36 Niv. 2012 O.
2047346 tn?1330159674 Hi! I'm new to this...and would like to see if anyone can shed a little light on what I should expect for my next visit with an Endocronologist. I'm 29 and have 2 kids. 2 1/2 years ago I gave birth to my youngest son and within 3 weeks I lost 75 pounds. My body hurt due to the weight loss but I was so excited to loose the weight so quickly that I never thought something was wrong. It wasn't until recently I started noticing rapid weight gain.
Avatar f tn That is what the oncologist is saying. The thyroid and nodes are positive on the PET scan. When my thyroid was killed, there was no mention of cancer, merely hyperthyroid. I do not understand how I could have update on scan. There was nothing to scan. I am totally confused.
Avatar f tn Can thyroid problems cause your eyes to feel dry? One of my eyes is red and inflammed on the top lid. They are both sore to touch. Twice I've been awakened by the sensation I am choking. I don't understand this. Of course there is nothing in my mouth when I get up, but it sure does feel like it at the time. Could this be thyroid related also? Or should I look into thoughs seizures that happen at night?
Avatar f tn I have been struggling for 8 years with symptoms of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. I have had my thyroid checked every year at my annual physicals. The test results have always come back normal but on the borderline of normal. Just recently I went to the doctors office due to my SX getting much worse. My heart rate was 110 all the time, I was always flushed, my moods were terrible and I had been feeling SO tired among many other SX.
Avatar n tn I have not heard of anxiety causing the swelling, however It is common for people with thyroid and hormonal imbalances which cause lymph node swelling to experience anxiety as a symptom. It would be a good idea to get your thyroid and hormone levels checked.
Avatar f tn I am taking Armour Thyroid and do not have the issue with my throat, post results as goolarra has advised and also, an exray would not detect an enlarged thyroid, which could cause throat or issues swallowing, your MD would more than likely send you for an ultrasound. This would show any issues and is common with thyroid. Mine came out 2.5 times the size of normal on the right side, I did have issues breathing when sleeping at that time.
Avatar f tn Had my labs done. All within normal range except thyroid peroxidase ab is 239. What does this mean?
Avatar f tn GL, January is Thyroid Awareness Month, a month when various organizations put together informational efforts to help us all learn more about thyroid disease here in the U.S.
Avatar f tn Block and replace therapy is used with Hashitoxicosis. This is blocking the stimulation of the thyroid with an anti-thyroid medication and then replacing with thyroid hormones. I was highly contemplating going onto anti thyroid meds but stuck it out (only because i can't feel my heart racing lol) but my major hyper symptoms went away after two months.
Avatar n tn I recently received my thyroid results: Assessment- Toxic multinodular goiter. Thyroid Dimensions Rt Lobe: 5.6x3.1x2.2cm Left lobe 5.4x1.3x1.3cm Isthmus 0.3cm. The echotexture of the rt lobe is severly heterogeneous and the left lobe is moderately heterogeneous. Nodule 1- Rt. lobe, entire pole 4.7x3.2x2.5 cm Nodule 2 Left lobe, upper/mid pole, 0.8x0.8x0.9cm both predominately solid. Nodule 3 Left lobe, mid pole 0.8x0.6x0.1cm solid. TSH 0.05 Free T4 1.0 T3 Free 432 T3 Toral 182.
Avatar f tn The declining FT3 could simply mean that the destruction of your thyroid has increased, which causes thyroid function to decline, or it could mean that you aren't converting the FT4 to the usable FT3. Which thyroid antibodies were you tested for and what were the results, with reference ranges?
1350417 tn?1303825410 s just that TSH is frequently suppressed when taking significant doses of thyroid meds. A good thyroid doctor also knows that the reference ranges are far too broad and that they should be used as guidelines within which to adjust FT3 and FT4 as necessary to relieve symptoms, since symptom relief should be all important, not test results. You can read more about clinical treatment in this link, written by a good thyroid doctor for patients that he is consulting with from a distance.
5648402 tn?1371663910 The thyroid produces both T4 and T3, but mostly T4. Of the Total T4 that's produced, a good share of it will be bound to proteins, which render the T4 unusable. A small amount of the T4 will not be bound by protein, so will be "Free".. T4 is not used directly by the body, but is converted to T3. Only the Free T4 can be converted. So, if you test for Total T4, you know how much is both bound and unbound, but that doesn't tell you how much is "free".
Avatar n tn This TSH is the signal which tells the thyroid gland to produce more thyroid hormone. The less thyroid hormone in the blood, the MORE TSH hormone the pituitary gland puts out. So as for your thyroid gland not producing any or enough hormone to be put into the bloodstream thus you would have high levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH). So What I think MAY be happening is that you have high TSH levels which equates to LOW thyroid hormone in the blood.
Avatar f tn Just above your question, to the right, is a button marked "Health Pages". Click on it and you will find many topics with links that explain thyroid disease and thyroid function. You are a "4"? I suppose that means your TSH is 4.0, which is a little high, indicating that one or more of your thyroid hormones is a little low. Normal TSH should be somewhere between 0.8 and 1.8, and 4.0 indicates mild hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn Hi All, so I've been dealing with thyroid since 2004. In 2004 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid and went through two radio active iodine treatments. This of course stopped the production, so they started my on synthroid. For several months until 2006 I was being managed on synthroid, but things started acting within normal range, so they took me off for a period of one year. I went in found it was in the low range again, so back on to synthroid.
