Avatar f tn What exactly is the weight loss medication? Thyroid could be an issue, or there could be water retention caused by a number of problems. I would get her a full blood count as well as thyroid check. My other dog used to gnaw on raw carrots like bones. He thought they were a great treat! But Misty will only eat them steamed or cooked with her meat.
Avatar n tn First, do be a little cautious how many times you are washing Freddy, as dogs coats need the natural oils to maintain their glossy coat appearance and the health of their coat. Also, washing too frequently can cause dry skin problems. The best dog shampoos are usually those specifically designed for puppies, which tend to be free of perfumes (which can cause irritation and can dry the skin) and are usually slightly milder in nature.
Avatar n tn yes seizures in older dogs can occur for many reasons.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the info, I never would have thought thyroid problems could cause seizures. I definately would stick with the vet that guessed right. How old is your dog?
Avatar n tn Thyroid springs to mind when there is weight loss without loss of appetite. Maybe you could get her checked for hyperthyroidism? But there are other problems which could cause this. I would say see the vet about it, especially as her stool is not always normal. Sometimes dogs who exercise a lot lose a little weight, because the calorie output exceeds dietary intake.
974371 tn?1424653129 Those that want to maintain the quality of the breed, do not want to breed dogs that can pass on problems!! If a breed is prone to hip dysplasia, eye problems, skin problems, thyroid problems. bleeding disorders, etc, a good breeder has her dogs tested and won't use a dog in a breeding program that may pass on these problems. Of course, nothing is 100% but anyone who breeds animals is responsible for those animals. I get very suspicious when I see ads that say *sire and dam on premesis.
Avatar n tn I too believe in teh holestic vets and I am now feeding my dogs Natural Balance because it has a few things in there that are supose to be good for dogs with hypothyroid. One of my dogs that has this condtion started having seizures.... this i sunder control right now. When the blood work is done, make sure to get a clear copy of it for your self so you can look up things for yourself.
Avatar n tn s eye, but after those little bears grow up, too many times problems ensue that can end up costing people thousands of dollars to correct or maintain, not to mention that many of those problems result in dogs living with varying degrees of pain or discomfort. So please do your homework well before you embark on this journey.
Avatar n tn Have them check a Free T3 and a Free T4 which is the active unbound circulating level of thyroid hormone in your dogs blood. Low thyroid levels can be a cause of snoring as can several other issues, including tracheal problems. Check her rectal temperature to see if it is normal (101.5) I would not recommend any specific herbs etc until we have an actual diagnosis at which point I am more than glad to help you and offer specific therapies.
Avatar n tn Angelfin, check in the news if any natural disasters happened/going to happen sometime soon in the area (your province or surrounding provinces). Some dogs are extra sensitive and can detect up to a week or so before happens. But of course, this is further to your checking whether there are any heath issue first.
Avatar f tn Well, Pedigree is not a very good food. You might try Pro Plan salmon food. Is he on thyroid meds? It might be a good idea to have a T-3, T-4 rerun. Bathing once a week seems like a lot. Bathing too often can actually strip the natural oils. Try a mild oatmeal shampoo. If this has been going on for a while, getting a skin scraping don may be a good idea.
1561285 tn?1295448863 and after the first month or so, she stopped chewing, destroying everything and she was very good on the lead, we only needed to use a collar. she has always been great with other dogs and she is in no way agressive to anyone or anything. we walk her in a dog on lead area and she is getting worse, she charges... NON-agressivley at people on bikes, scooters ect. which she has never done, she loves to run but whenever someone on a bike used to pass, she would look at us as if to say "run?
1718792 tn?1309112963 Care Credit is a low to no interest credit card that can only be used for medical, dental or veterinary bill. In the mean time please apply topical flea and tick preventative every 28 days since not seeing a flea does not mean that your dog has not been bitten by one. Dogs with flea allergy dermatitis can react, by itching, to a single flea bite for a month or more.

Avatar m tn Why produce more dogs with potential problems? This would not be fair to the quality of the breed and possible problems for puppy buyers. Breeding is a science and a big responsibility. Check with the person you got the dog from and see if they know of any problems with the line. They should! You might ask your Vet to do some blood work and include thyroid.
795248 tn?1250686616 Inbreeding is something that only breeders who know every dog in their bloodlines inside and out should attempt, because while it can be an invaluable tool in cementing desirable characteristics in a bloodline, if there are any hidden genetic problems in any of the dogs in that line, inbreeding is going to produce a litter of ticking timebombs just waiting to go off.
903476 tn?1242237037 I think I might call the vet thyroid problems are nothing to take lightly. I should know I have major thyroid problems myself. I don't know what I'll do if I have to change her diet I have two dogs and the other one needs her kibble to be very low calorie and the stuff I use is the lowest I could find that wasn't all filler.
Avatar f tn ve never had to have any of our other 2 dogs on a leash or pinned up. We bring him in and out quite a bit, but even the short distance from the kennel to the house, he has to be on a leash. Any ideas on why he keeps running away? Second problem...chewing. Yes, he is very much a puppy with his adult teeth. We put a doggie house into his kennel. The standard brown and white ones I see in lots of kennels.
209384 tn?1231168306 Hey, my insane insomniac friends! Glad to see that both of you are doing okay. I normally can't get on line during this time but I'm sitting in the hospital waiting room (my fiance' is being tested) and brought the work laptop to get a report finished. The have free wireless here so, of course, had to jump on and say hello. Stopped in the cafeteria earlier and the entire nuclear medicine department was in there. They recognized me and said "hello".
1627010 tn?1299446388 congenital, thyroid, auto immune, etc. Do you have a canine opthomologist in your area? I know there are some homeopathic remedies out there but I've never tried them. I would just err on the side of caution and consult with a Vet.
Avatar m tn An underactive thyroid is a common hormone disorder in dogs, especially as they enter their senior years. The thyroid is a very interesting gland. The deficiency in the thryroid gland can affect general metabolism causing it to slow down. Hypothryoid dogs will often put on weight, be sluggish, have an oily coat and have a tragic facial expression.
