Avatar m tn As the disease progresses, you would need to adjust thyroid replacement medication, periodically, in order to keep up with the decline in thyroid function. Once properly diagnosed, and started on medication, it can take a while to get things adjusted to where YOU need them, not just "in range". Some people can accomplish this in 6 months, for others, that's way too optimistic, but it depends a lot on your doctor and the tests s/he runs.
Avatar f tn Yes please talk to your dr, there are many things that could cause rapid or excessive weight loss and some of them can be serious. In addition to Thyroid and GI testing maybe ask about diabetes. It seems odd, but it can cause weight loss.
Avatar m tn There have been people who have taken more of it in order to raise there matabolism more in order to loose weight. If you get to much lyvoxl you will experience shakiness, insomnia, diareah, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism. I DO NOT recommend messing with your dosage but I would definately make sure my dosage is right in oder to get on the right track for weight loss.
Avatar f tn BTW... I am not thinking that it should magically disappear. I am one who will work at it. If only I could find some energy to do so! ;-) I would just like to hear from some people who HAVE worked at it and HAVE gotten some results. I am 5'2" at 177 lbs. I want to be down to 140, which is a healthy weight for someone my height. I know I am never going to be 125 again. :-( but I would like to think that I can get back some of the girlish figure I once had!!! ????
Avatar n tn d either go back to the same doctor and say you think your thyroid medications are in further need of adjustment, or go to a different doctor. She should not have just shrugged her shoulders.
658757 tn?1397796878 What does your doctor say about this weight loss? Do you have any other symptoms besides the weight loss? I would have my doctor do further tests to see why you are losing weight.
Avatar f tn I hate to answer questions with more questions, but --- Do you know for sure that you have thyroid issues? If so, why aren't you being treated for them? What tests have been done and what are the results, along with the lab's reference ranges? We all react differently to meds, foods, etc and while some people do well with a gluten free diet, my doctor told me not to bother with it because I'm not gluten sensitive. I do well with whole grains.
4943237 tn?1428991095 ve both had it covered, but what about thyroid function? An overactive thyroid can cause racing heart and weight loss, as the entire metabolism speeds up. A thyroid function test is a matter of only one blood draw, and can tell a lot. Usually TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is what's tested, but I wouldn't settle for that. Ask for TSH, T4, T3, everything. I personally have autoimmune underactive thyroid, which I've been medicated for for 35 years, no probs.
Avatar f tn fatigue, weakness, weight gain, trouble losing weight, sensitive to cold, muscle aching and cramps, constipation, depression, memory loss, odd menstrual periods.
Avatar f tn I also was recently told that I have thyroid problems thyroidisim no shure if that's how you spell it? My doctor said that I need to keep doing 30 min exercise and try to eat right and take my thyroid med and if I don't loose weight in 6 months he will recomend the surgery, But I have had this weight problem all my life, What can I do to get my doctor to take me serious? I may loose 10-20 pounds in six months but I need to loose more than that because I want to be here for my kids.

Avatar f tn No, assuming that you don't have an eating disorder, this is not normal unless you retain a lot of fluid, which you shouldn't, at your age ......... It sounds like you could be suffering from an overactive thyroid; have you ever had thyroid function tested? Get the following tests: TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, plus TSI; and get checked for Type I diabetes........ these are 2 major health issues that cause weight loss....... don't panic, but get tested for both asap....
2128527 tn?1335410940 Aside from that, Narble is right. For some reason, weight loss seems to be more difficult for those of us with thyroid issues than it is for others. I'm running into some of the same issues.
Avatar f tn Why is weight loss so slow sometimes? I work out 5-6 days wk for at least hr-aerobic & deadlifing/kettle bells. Also keeping at 1,500 cals per day.
Avatar m tn My nutritionalist tells me to do as much cardio as possible, its the best in shedding weight, but as a man i think adding weights once or twice a week will help tramedously as well as it will help tone as u loose the weight and aid in the weight loss. her tips..
Avatar m tn When I workout I mainly lift weights so I expect that I should gain weight rather than loose it right? The weight loss has been pretty drastic. A couple of months ago I was about 240ish pounds. Then I dropped down to 225 pounds. At that time I wasnt really eating, as I didnt have an appetite. Then, I was making my self eat. I would eat a lot as well. My weight would go up to about 227 pounds then go right back to 225. I went to the doctor because of this and he tested me for diabetes.
Avatar f tn For your weight, 1000 calories/day isn't enough and you probably aren't eating enough proteins and fiber to keep you satisfied, which leads to binging. Make sure you eat protein with every meal/snack, because protein keeps you fuller longer and it also helps build muscle. Fiber, as in veggies, also helps keep you fuller, but you need the protein with it..
Avatar f tn You need to see an Endocrinologist that will listen to your symptoms. The tests you need for your thyroid are TSH, FT3, FT4 and antibodies. Even though they say your within "normal range' this might not be a normal range for you. An Endo can also test you for diabetes. You sound like you may have some of the symptoms of that. If your cortisol levels were elevated that means adrenal issues.
Avatar n tn does anybody know if Eltroxin will indeed assist in weight loss??? I sincerely hope so, my weight esculated very rapidly in the passed few months- the reason I was put on Eltroxin.
Avatar n tn Post your FT3 and FT4 levels. If you can't lose the weight, maybe you'd benefit from your levels in the upper 1/3 of the range, not just 'in range' as so many clueless endos are apt to leave you. The reason many of us don't lose weight is because many endos still don't test/treat FT3 levels.
Avatar f tn I started thin and gained 13 lbs in 13 weeks. Had every side effect but lose wt. And I always feel like I can lose a few lbs. Now after tx I'm on a diet. Good foods didn't taste good, cold and sweet and lots of carbs. Cookies, candy, ice cream. Veggies didn't taste good. Since meals were too much, snacking was what I did. Since I had this awful taste in my mouth, snacking took the bad taste away. Just my experience.
Avatar m tn In case Hashi's hasn't been explained to you, it is a disease that affects females much more than men. With this disease, the autoimmune system produces antibodies that attack and eventually destroy the thyroid glands. The time for this to be completed varies widely. In the interim you gradually lose capability to produce thyroid hormone, which of course affects our metabolism and many other body functions.
Avatar m tn Your husband also has what appears to be hypothyroidism. With nausea, weight loss, blood per rectum, blood in the urine, and a hypothyroid state, something more global is going on and I would strongly encourage your husband to discuss this further with his physician. Seeking a second opinion is never a bad idea when dealing with a complex situation such as your husband's state of health. I hope this helps.
