Avatar m tn As far as I know, that only can be determined for sure by a skin biopsy. Was that done? It can affect Collies and Shelties. There are definitely other diseases this could be.
410475 tn?1262942367 t bark at our cats who stay in-doors. our cats are use to using that area he is in as their in and out spot and they are upset because everything is in upheavel around here. all their hiding places to sleep are gone, boxes everywhere, strange people in and out, and now a dog. if we could just take our cats and go it wouldn't be our problem anymore but thats a 2 weeks away for me and a month for my husband.
Avatar m tn Right now, I have a Chi mix. I had many Shelties for years and adopted and helped with Grethound rescue. Yearscago, had Doxies, Yorkies and some mixes. You?
Avatar n tn We do not know where to even begin looking for a problem so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or know of common health issues in shelties that may cause this? Any help is appreciated!
Avatar f tn Oh congrats. Used to show Shelties in Confirmation and Obedience. Most do very well with training. Hope you are dealing with a reputable breeder as they can have health issues. I used to use various things for training but most are not what you are looking for. Karla knows more about food. Sometimes, I would just poach then bake chicken breasts and use small pieces. Used calf's liver too. The chicken is less messy.
Avatar n tn That little bit of difference in protein should in no way make a difference of that degree in coat color. A dog would have to be severely malnourished in order to have coat color be affected that severely and even then I don't know that it would change that much. It sounds to me more like a genetic thing going on. There is a dilution gene that might be coming into play here that I would suspect is more likely to be responsible for this.
Avatar n tn my sheltie coughs like she has something in her throat she wants to bring up. I took her to the vet and he couldnt find anything wrong with her. My daughter who was a vet tech said it is a reverse sneeze. Is there anything I can do to make it better?
514349 tn?1272801633 Hello~Maybe kitty is trying to get rid of a hairball, does he sound like he wants to vomit at times when like this. I know when I had my kitties, they got in this position before throwing up the fur ball. Taking him to the vet is a good idea, especially if this continues and he isn't getting rid a fur balls. I hope he feels better soon.
Avatar f tn re much less likely to have trouble. You might just call the vet and ask if Shelties are prone to back leg cramps. I have a suspicion this is the case, as my neighbor's Sheltie gets back leg cramps.
Avatar f tn My dog started having seizures a couple months ago, and it was determined it was idiopathic epilepsy and phenobarbital was prescribed. She did fantastic on it for a month and a half then started seizing again, and they have become more frequent the past few weeks.
Avatar n tn I don't know where you live but most dogs will 'blow coat' approximately twice a year, in addition to the regular year-round shedding. The warmer weather typically triggers in the springtime. If your lab is only 5 months you probably have not had him long enough to experience this before. As far as the dander, the flaxseed is good, as is an oatmeal based natural shampoo.
Avatar f tn My Sheltie has had 3 separate seizures, all after taking 1-2 doses of Previcox. Previcox was prescribed in Nov. 2011 at his senior exam to use as needed for arthritis in his hind hips. He is 13 yrs old and has had his hind legs slip out a number of times. I used the Previcox for the 1st time in Feb. He had diarrhea prior to this for a few days & a call to the vet had him on a bland rice & chicken diet. He seemed stiff walking so I gave him the 1/2 tablet dose of Previcox. Within 12 hrs.
463897 tn?1468013750 I have always had dogs of various breeds since I was a kid. I showed Shelties in Confirmation and Obedience for a number of years. I have done some breeding and belonged to the large Sheltie Club for years. I did referrals and was Education Co-Ordinator. I used to take my dogs to my children's schools to educate on the importance of Spay/Neuter, proper care, etc. dud some Obedience Demos which they loved. We were involved in Greyhound Rescue for some years and adopted one ourselves.
1710194 tn?1308931794 My husband and I have an 8 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Bowser! He is about the cuttest little guy in the world and we love him to death!! BUT, I recently found out I was pregnant and am starting to worry how bringing a baby into the house will affect Bowser. Since his breed is a hearding breed I know there is always concern with them hearding the children when they are older but I have NO IDEA how he is going to act around a baby.
974371 tn?1424653129 Questions have come up before about dogs marking in the house, incontinence issues, etc. I have mentioned the possible use of Belly Bands and here is a link to a site that shows what they are. Can come in handy, especially with some of the "boys* and the oldsters. I am in no way affiliated with this company. http://www.k9comforts.

Avatar n tn In most cases, a lump that moves is better news than a hard, stationary lump. However, it wouldn't hurt to have an ultrasound just to be sure, so ask your doctor to order one. If he refuses, ask him to refer you to someone else. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn s gradually, destroys the thyroid, creating a demand for periodic increases in replacement thyroid hormones. The antibody tests you need are Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab) and Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb).
Avatar n tn You should talk with your doctor about starting a thyroid replacement medication. Adequate thyroid hormones are essential the growth and development of a fetus. Even though your FT3 and FT4 are "normal", they are way too low in their ranges to be adequate.
