Avatar f tn The headquarters for the agency Paws with a Cause which trains assistance dogs is down the road a few miles from my house and I know for a fact that while most of their dogs are Labrador and Golden Retrievers they have other types of assistance dogs as well as small terrier-sized dogs. My new dog, Luna is a Chocolate Lab mix who was found by a friend as a stray. She is very good-natured and I am hoping that she will be able to be a therapy dog.
Avatar n tn He has been diagnosied with hyporthyroidsm since 6 months. Doctor here suggested to give him a dose like in the morning 400mcg and in the night 400 mcg. Could you please suggest the normal dosage of thyronorm?
987762 tn?1671273328 Golden Retrievers are very sensitive to people while Labrador Retrievers are generally very friendly yet driven to work. By crossing the two, people hoped to get a calmer yet very friendly and driven service dog. So far this cross has been successful, with most of them going on to be amazing seeing eye dogs, search and rescue dogs, and even bomb detection dogs.
203342 tn?1328737207 My aunt was widowed this year and rescued a little bichon who was used as a breeder in a mill for 8 years. Because she was older and not an outgoing, socialized personality, nobody wanted her. Well, she was exactly what my aunt needed and vice versa. It's beyond wonderful watching both my aunt and her pup return to the land of the living. A good friend of ours just loves Labrador Retrievers, and always thought he had to pay a fortune for a "good" puppy.
Avatar n tn I also took my son to a Play Therapist who used a trained labrador dog in her sessions. I think animals are a very good way of interacting with children with autism as long as the child does not have any aversion to animals due to sensory issues eg. smell, noise, tactile etc. We also keep alot of animals and I have found it very helpful to be able to explain things using the animals as examples.
Avatar m tn The most common cause of a fading nose is called “snow nose” or “winter nose,” because the dog’s nose will fade to pink or white during the winter months, and return to black once summer arrives. Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Bernese Mountain dogs, and Siberian Huskies have this seasonal variation in the color of the nasal planum. Some dogs within these breeds, and even dogs of other breeds, have noses that change from black to brown or pink as the animal ages.
Avatar f tn ALSO, if you take him to the vet and the vet prescribes a product called Rimadyl, do your research on it before giving it to him. Labrador retrievers are one of the breeds that are known to have adverse reactions to rimadyl, and sometimes the benefits just do not outweigh the risks in something like this. What you CAN do is to start giving him a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement.

Avatar f tn In dogs, the problem almost always appears by the time the dog is 18 months old( 1 yr, 6 months) The defect can be anywhere from mild to severely crippling, and can eventually cause severe osteoarthritis. It is most common in German Shepherd Dogs, Labrador or Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers and Mastiffs. It is known to be hereditary but can appear on it's own as well. There is no complete cure, although there are many options to alleviate the clinical signs.
403156 tn?1290150018 But for several months now, her weight has stayed pretty much the same. From what I have read, 90% of thyroid tumors are cancerous in dogs and golden retrievers are more susceptible. We have an appointment with her vet on Thursday. What is the long term prognosis? Given how large it is, is it likely that it has spread? I am just trying to prepare myself...
Avatar m tn i have a 2 years old Labrador dog it has lot of grate hair fall i tried gold coat and other nutritional syrups but hair fall was not controlled please teal me a best medicine for it.
Avatar m tn adult dog that has a demonstrated friendly personality. Golden Retrievers are always very friendly and gentle in my experience, including when crossed with a poodle - but they can be large, over 70 pounds. But you said you have considered a Mastiff - that is big in my experience. I'd think a young child would be happier with a "smallish" dog, say under 30 pounds, perhaps a Cocker would work, but again adopting an adult may work best.
Avatar m tn A lady was using this supplement for her dog just to give her dog the necessary enzymes/nutrients not present in cooked kibble, (that are found in raw food). She discovered, as a side bonus that her dogs incontinence ceased after starting her dog on the Fresh Factors. It works. You can double or triple the dose if you wish, to boost it in the beginning, as well, with absolute safety/no harm or ill effects, whatsoever. Anyways, I tried it, and it works.
653169 tn?1303446369 She seems to get depressed with me and if I cry she puts her front paws in my lap, tries to get my attention by staring in my eyes, and then starts nuzzling my face and finally kissing me. Is this common?? And, what can I do to make her not worry about me so much? Every since I brought her home barely winged she has been my shadow and my husband says she is very linked to me.
Avatar f tn He is in there only at night with 2 Golden Retrievers who are no problem at all. I have a camera in the room at night so I can see what goes on. He wakes up about 4x a night & pees & poos, walks all around, then goes back to sleep. Its like he just can't sleep through the night at all. My other 2 dogs sleep like rocks. I have no idea what to do. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn My Black Labrador has had some skin problems and hair loss lately. I'll start with a little back story of how this started over the summer. I have two dogs, a black lab and a terrier. They both had a nasty flea problem over the summer that didn't seem to go away, well finally in the fall after flea baths and Front Line, the fleas are gone. The terrier had some raw patches, which cleared up after the fleas were gone and she looks healthy and great. My labrador is still having trouble.
Avatar m tn Our dog, 9 year old Labrador retriever, Maisy, passed away a few days ago for no known reason. Our family got very attached to Maisy and we are all devastated. Maisy had a lack of appetite recently (for the past couple of weeks) and lost weight. Her bathroom habits were normal and showed no visible discomfort. We are all shocked and upset and want answers.
Avatar n tn i cant say much about your case (every dog is different) but if you are really concerned you should go to your vet or atleast call them and see if it is worth comming in to be looked at
20813182 tn?1519470596 My 7 year old Labrador cross has started hiding in corner on occasions. He moves furniture to get there and will even climb over chair to get to corner. Used to being round kids/noise so not sure it this. Also seems to follow me everywhere I go even though he is closer to hubby. Seems to be eating ok.
Avatar m tn As Karla mentioned, Urinary tract infections are the most common cause of blood in the urine. The infection may be in the kidneys, bladder, or urethra (the tube through which urine flows). Dogs and cats with urinary tract infections will usually urinate much more often than usual, and they may have fevers as well. In male dogs, blood in the urine may mean that the prostate gland, has become infected. Dogs with an infected prostate gland typically have a swollen penis and testicles.

Avatar f tn My bf has a dog , labrador. He loves that dog , i hate it. It leaves the house smelling and theres hair everywere. Would it be harmful to my baby? Who else has pets and newborns?
Avatar f tn We have an 8 year old black labrador / springer spaniel cross. She (Pinto) started limping this week (Tuesday) and had swollen upper right leg. We let her rest with ice for a day. She seemed a lot better so I took her on her usual run with the bike later the next night. On friday she was yelping lots and obviously in pain. We took her to the vet that afternoon. The vet gave her an inti-inflammatory shot. The vet said it should last about 24 hours. He thought she had a muscle sprain.
