Common Questions and Answers about Thyroid head and neck cancer foundation

neck

Avatar n tn I have a hard, non-tender lump on the right side of the back of my head down towards my neck. I noticed it in undergrad (4 years ago) and they took blood work. The NP said that my white count (i think) was slightly elevated, and that i probably had a virus lingering around, which would explain the swollen lymph node on the back of my head. It has never gone away. It has been there at least 4 years now. I have lately been SUPER fatigued.
Avatar f tn You raise a great question, but the jury is still out on this issue. The effects of cellphone radiation on head and neck tumors has not been shown but also not been extensively studied." to my follow up question re 'can we test for this' and could there be a relation to the head jerking, he said: "There's no way to test for this, and I certainly don't think it has any relation to your head jerking." how would you feel?
798555 tn?1292787551 Did you know more people die of thyroid cancer than breast cancer? (that always stops people in there tracks and it is true!) Cheers!
Avatar n tn This is important because if TSH is left at high levels, it will stimulate both the remaining normal thyroid as well as any thyroid cancer and metastases to grow and enlarge. Thus, by taking thyroid hormone medication, TSH is suppressed and thyroid cancer growth is avoided. In order to maintain a dose of thyroid hormone that is right for you, blood tests for thyroid function will need to be checked periodically.
611254 tn?1223914841 m a bit nervous to say the least as my mother has cancer (brain, lung) and has a very high incidence of it in her family (brain, lung/brain, pancreatic, colon and my sister had thyroid cancer). I wont see the surgeon for the thyroid nodule until Nov. 4th. I plan to show him the lump to see what he thinks it could be. In the meantime I'm worried about this lump being a lymph node and not from my cervical disk issue. Am I sounding like a hypochondriac?
Avatar f tn That is fast at 33% increase in a month. Red flag signs of thyroid cancer: male gender, younger than 20 years and older than 65 years, rapid growth of nodule, symptoms of local invasion (dysphagia, neck pain, hoarseness), history of radiation to the head or neck, family history of thyroid cancer or polyposis (Gardner's syndrome).
Avatar f tn It is a confusing time, and many on this board have and are surviving multiple forms of thryoid cancer and disease so do not hesitate to reach out to them. I do not have cancer but rather advanced thyroid disease, but please do not hesitate to contact me through here or at the National Thyroid Foundation. Best to you in a negative diagnosis.

Avatar n tn I recently posted this inn the cancer section, and then noticed someone had a similar issue. So figured id repost here incase someone here could help me, incase its a thyroid nodule. Thanks. Hello. I have a Dr. appointment this week for another problem, and plan to ask about this. But until then, I thought I would ask here. Right near my adams apple, theres a small hard lump. Really small, like maybe alittle bigger than a pea.
Avatar f tn And I have a family history of cancer, Grandma had breast, lung, and thyroid cancer. Unfortunately, she didn't win her battle as it spread too much too fast.
Avatar f tn I had a thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer on May 21st and waiting for RAI. I would like to know if others still had the fullness in neck and ear even after thyroidectomy. What does this mean? I hope they didn't miss something?
Avatar f tn The reason I ask is because two weeks after my FNA I had neck pain on the whole left side that felt like I had whiplash and I also had a cold/sore throat. The neck pain lasted about a week and the sore throat lasted maybe 3 days. No one else seemed to think it was related to the FNA, but I couldn't figure out anything else it could be.
Avatar f tn On June 10th I had a total thyroidectomy, prior to the surgery I was feeling like I had the flu constantly and would intermittently get the head ache that radiated up the back of my head. On the 22nd I got the pathology back and the "tumor" had reached 6 cm, there was another very small tumor as well .06cm both were papillary thyroid carcinoma classic type.
Avatar n tn I did see a few names that were listed by The Hormone Foundation and the former Thyroid Association of America.
Avatar n tn I am in remission for non hodgkins lymphoma. Also lost a kidney to cancer and they removed my thyroid last year because the nodes had cancer. I also have degenerative disk disease in my neck, thoracic and lumbar spine with 4 bulging disks, 2 in my neck, one thoracic and one lumbar. I also have type 2 diabetes with neuropathy in my legs and feet.
914782 tn?1243435663 I recently had CT scan of head and neck that revealed I have 4 tumors. Three of the tumors are on my jugular (the largest measures 1cm) and one is on my thyroid(measures 1.5cm and is hypodense). This all by itself has made me a nervous wreck because the first thing that comes to my mind is the big scary "C" word. I've had a 'lump' on the left side of my neck just below my ear for approx. 8 years.

1765114 tn?1313541596 After years of pushing that there was something wrong with my thyroid, my doc found thyroid cancer in 2011 and removed my thyroid. Ever since, my neck has been swollen off and on, sometimes it is very painful. Both ENT and endocrinologist said they couldn't find anything wrong (bear in mind the whole time up until my thyroid was removed and pathology was done, they couldn't find anything wrong with it either). It has gotten progressively worse.
Avatar n tn a history of neck irradiation; male; family history of thyroid cancer; age - under 20 or over 60; rapid nodule growth; enlarged lymph nodes in the neck; hoarse voice; difficulty swallowing; nodule is of a firm and hard consistency; margins of the nodule are ill defined; nodule is attached to surrounding structures in the neck.
Avatar m tn so they did test on all 4 mass and lymph notes and there is no cancer.but i am still scard for my life and im only 44 years old and cancer has killed my dad at age 48...and lost my brother last year at age 47.and now it has been a week sence second surgrey and starting to have problems again.how come the doctors have not done a CT of my head.some is cousing these Mass in my neck.....and i can't do a third round of this...the right side of my head hearts and is hot..
Avatar f tn I'm unfamiliar at the with thyroid cancer and how often nodules are cancerous versus just cysts- but given your family history, the size of the nodule, and your symptoms I would push for a biopsy. Your life is definitely suffering, so something needs to be done; it's a borderline size; and your family history may mean you're more at risk for thyroid cancer. Personally I don't think its worth the chance.
Avatar f tn I just had my thyroid and lymph nodes taken out on Monday because I had thyroid cancer. I had a cystic mass on the right side of my neck. Ever since ive had this surgery, the docs say my calcium levels are low. I was released from the hospital 2 days after the surgery, but I just got admitted again because I got really sick. I got really numb and tingly all over my body. The docors are saying its because of low calcium. They give me calcium through an iv and tums.
