Avatar f tn Too little TSH indicates you have hyperthyroidism or over active thyroid, producing too much thyroid hormone - common symptoms are weight loss, diarrhea, hand tremors, fatigue, depression, rapid heart rate, palpitations, anxiety, hair loss.
Avatar f tn I am a 55 year old female with loss of hair on her forearms and eyebrows. I have a some thinning at the temples. My TSH is 2.570 - which my GP says is normal. He thinks hair loss may be a result of stress, however, I have not been under any more stress than normal life. I have had high cholesterol and osteoporosis for many years, which have not responded to meds. What do you think? Can you have a normal TSH and still have a thyroid issue?
Avatar n tn Would test to make sure the thyroid levels are stable (TSH 0.5-2.5). The hair does not always grow back the same way after chemo. There are hair/nail vitamins that can be taken -- they are available over-the-counter -- it sometimes helps. The thyroid medication itself would not cause the hair problems -- but thyroid imbalance can contribute (ie if the levels aren't on target).
Avatar f tn Most times the hair loss from alopecia can be fixed with the hair folicles being stimulated by cortisone cream for a few weeks. As much as I hate cortisone cream, I used it years ago after a haematoma (blow to the back of the head and blood clot) as my hair just wouldnt stop falling out. Within weeks it had grown back , it grew back short and spikey at first (fuzzy) but then grew back normal. Take Care and I hope your stress levels subside very soon for you.
Avatar n tn It would be very helpful if we could have a look at your thyroid related test results from the time you were feeling good, and also from the time when you dosage was reduced. You also need to know your test results from Aug. It is a good idea to always get a copy of blood test results and write on there how you were feeling at the time, and your med and supplement dosages. Those reports are a very useful history for future reference.
Avatar f tn My thyroid levels are normal taking armour and still having hair loss. Could it be the medications? I was on all the different thyroid meds. and still had hair loss. Would anyone be able to help?
Avatar f tn For some reason the immune system attacks the hair follicles and destroys them which is what leads to the hair loss. My best friend has it and she has no hair anywhere! Not really sure if it is thyroid realated but I don't think so. With the thyroid you do lose hair but not leading to baldness.
Avatar n tn I've been treated for hypothyroidism for the past 6-7 years. In November, my endocrinologist said it would not cause any further harm to stop synthroid for 3 months and then recheck levels to see if my hair loss stopped. Unfortunately, my TSH level skyrocketed to 91 and my cholesterol was high as well. So I went back on synthroid (100 mcg). I'm still suffering from hair loss and am become quite concerned/stressed/depressed.
Avatar m tn Have you been diagnosed with a thyroid disease? Hair loss can be attributed to many things, but being a thyroid patient and usually (not always so though) Hypothyroid patients notice hair loss big time. (me included!) You would be best to get full thyroid function tests done. TSH, Free T3, Free T4 and antibodies. Post them here with the reference ranges written on the lab result and we can help you further.
Avatar m tn While there are many things that can cause hair loss, it's usually worse for thyroid patients when they are hypo, and once medication is adjusted properly, the hair loss stops. As gimel said, it would help us if you could post your latest thyroid test results, along with the reference ranges, which vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report.
Avatar f tn I am at a loss. Is there a thyroid medication that will stop hair loss like iodine? Is there something I can take over the counter? About 7 months ago I started being treated for hypothyroidism. My bloodwork also showed low titers for Hashimotos. I had all the symptoms including the dreaded hair loss! With my doctors approval, I started using Iodine Plus along with Levoxyl. My hair thickened back up and shedding completely stopped.
Avatar n tn In November i was on anti biotics and anitflammatory for nearly 3 weeks for a sport related injury and was under alot of stress so i dont know if that had more to do with it, i have visited 2 doctors in regards to this and 1 of them said it could be androgenetic without even doin any tests or asking about family history, he told me to use anaphase shampoo and chronotism sprays which is a course of 1 month, now its been 3 weeks and i still see hair fall in the shower and hair is thin,i have cut
Avatar n tn Hun, Get a different doc, you know, they are just ppl, and, as ppl, some are *sses, and some are not, Please have them do thyroid check!! Thyroid problems will cause depression, weight gain (or loss) as well as HAIR LOSS, i had a circular patch oh top of my head, and doc decided to check my thyroid, now i on synthroid, and hair grew back, emotions under control..
Avatar n tn But, every few years my thyroid just burns out, and I go hypo. When I do I experience extreme hair loss and brittle nails. For me, the animal based thyroid substitutes work much better when I'm in a hypo phase. Additionally, sometimes when I am not hypo, the medication I take for my Graves' just knocks down my T4/T3 levels so low that once again I start to lose a lot of hair.
Avatar f tn I have to first ask if you have had your thyroid checked? This is a reason for many women having hair loss. Since you are noting some nutritional deficiencies, can you rebalance those to see if it impacts your hair loss? That's what I'd try. Have your thyroid checked. And is there any hope for you with the various hair loss products out there to improve things?
429700 tn?1308007823 Hair loss for me was thyroid related. Besides having MS I have autoimmune thyroid issues too. I am on straight T3 as Levothyroxine was worthless and made me feel much worse. Since starting the T3 (cytomel) I am beginning to feel much better, have more energy and my hair has quit falling out. I found a Doctor who doesn't treat TSH lab results but the whole patient.
Avatar f tn May have ur dr check ur thyroid. I have a thyroid issue and hair loss is a symptom.
